  • Have you internalized a voice from your childhood that is keeping you dysfunctional? The most important thing we can do for reparenting is to develop a healthier inner dialog.
    In this video, I will share my own personal story of my inner dialog and the struggles it caused along with three tips on how to change your inner voices.

    Love this video, I renamed my inner critic, who would tell me I was useless and why bother trying, Dolly. When I heard her, I'd just tell her to f off, and go on to try my best. She's hardly around anymore.

    I think representing yourself, becoming your own friend and advocate is the very basis of peace and good mental health.
    I have found it to be more helpful than anything else.

    WOW -- your childhood story is mine! It left me with a lifetime of codependency, and a covert narcissist of a spouse. I was finally leaving after 25 years together, and he committed suicide in our family home, abandoning our two teenage children.

    I’m calling back the little-mes that ran off growing up. I’m reparenting them, as I parent my 7 yo. It’s like a regular day care, up here. 😊 I remember receiving the words of hope and love in my mind, from me doing this work now. Now, there are too many voices running. I went to clear them, but it needs to be combed out regularly. ❤Thank you for showing me how to sort these thoughts and to call in supportive familiar voices.

    I love that I can connect with TH-cam therapists the few times that i have through yall's videos.
    You guys have really helped me with a few nerve-wracking life acknowledgments and difficult self-ownerships, and can you be my therapist, please? 😅

    After understanding that my internal voice was so foul after sixty years, do you think you can change? I have felt stuck for decades.

    • @gc1438

      You absolutely can change, dear sir! The human brain is magnificent. People are amazingly resilient. Nothing is beyond redemption. Our Creator made us to respond to what we tell ourselves. It takes time but you can get it. Form new habits. Your brain wants to stay where it’s familiar and comfortable, but it will learn new habits as you nurture it with kindness. Speak life. Speak truth. We were made by God to thrive in His love and peace. In His presence through His Son, Jesus Christ.

      It will take great intentionality, but yes you can! Like Barbara described, practice mindfulness around the source of those voices, pay attention to what triggers the negative self-talk, and every time you catch it, turn it around into something positive. Even if you observe a negative truth about yourself, there is always a way to look at it from another perspective to make it constructive.
      Each of us has faults and failings, but every human is uniquely special and valuable to this world. Be intentional, be kind to yourself, and you will succeed ❤️

    I'm just curious, who is your message really for? It is a lot of people out here with all kind of behavior issues. I understand it all starts with the parents but the person that needs to re-parent themselves needs to understand that every action they take in life has consequences attached to them. Good or bad but I'm leaning more toward bad because they are correcting a flaw.

    • @BarbaraHeffernan
      @BarbaraHeffernan  ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Hi: I definitely say in the video that it is now the adult's responsibility to correct the voices they've internalized! (I think that is what you are pointing to). In terms of who it is for, anyone who is learning to reparent themselves, or anyone who has a critical inner voice they would like to rewire! All the best, Barbara
