    Great comprehensive video, I have a 2008 Volvo C70 , it's in great condition mechanically and paint wise, I've used the Meguiars products forever but I've been tempted to try some of the new ceramic and poly based products but your video really convinced me to stick with the old adage "If it ain't broke...don't fix it ". It'll take some more proven videos for me to try some of the newer products...again...great video!

    Been using Meguiars cleaner wax for years with great results. My current process is clay bar then cleaner wax, then the gold paste wax which does protect through more washes. But after this ceramic movement (and now graphene is on the scene), I'm thinking of using a ceramic spray instead of the Gold paste wax AFTER the cleaner wax.

    You used a buffer with the Meguires...that could have lifted tiny paint imperfections, contamination etc to make it smoother.
    I don't see any Mother's products in your collection. No opinion, just wondering. The difficulty of removing the Hydro Slick reminds me of Blue Coral paste that you had to get off soon but it did last longer.

    I think those are 2 very different products - one is carnuba, one is ceramic - also, cleaner wax has a mild cutting agent in it iirc, meaning its supposed to polish the clearcoat as well, which is unnecessary unless it is damaged - just my thoughts - glad to see some new content!

    • @autodreams114
      @autodreams114  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for the comment. Yes wildly different products and price points. Feels like the Cleaner Wax has been around 100 years lol but pretty effective. Which would you buy? Have you dabbled with any of the ceramic coatings or waxes yet?

    • @gunsandcommissions
      @gunsandcommissions 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Auto Dreams I used to have a red fox body mustang with a subpar clear coat and McGuire’s cleaner wax was just the ticket to help rid the paint of the haziness that was starting to accumulate
      There weren’t ceramic coatings back then (let’s just say I’m not a kid anymore lol)
      I don’t drive anything these days that warrants a ceramic treatment, so it’s just high quality carnuba for my oldish truck

      Like I posted above, I'm mostly hoping for more protection from the elements with Hyperwax. I've never used a wax that gives me a shine like pure carnauba. Not even close. The problem is that in the summer, it cooks off on the hood in no time. All that's left behind are deep mineral rings that I have to compound out.

    Great review, appreciate it as I am getting into keeping my car detailed. One big difference is the “slickness” test, the cleaner wax is a combination of wax and cleaner and containers petro solvents and polish which will clean the surface and make it smoother. I think you need to do more surface prep for the chemical guy product, first some polish then a cleaner to remove all polish and wax on the surface prior to application. Personally I’m sticking to the cleaner wax several times per year. Thanks again for the review!

    at 14mins you got light water overspray on the hydro slick side when you washed down the Mequiar's side which is prolly why you're seeing more little bubbles -- to be fair lol

  • @waterhead1027

    I watched this because I regularly use Meguiar's Cleaner wax, but just finished up using the Hyperwax. There's no appreciable difference in shine. I'm just hoping that the ceramic gives me longer protection from the elements. Water is very hard here, and minerals burn into paint and crust on glass very quickly.

  • @TysonPaxton1214
    @TysonPaxton1214 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Hydro slick compared to cleaner wax over elements, hydro slick is just all out better, if you use an Ipa solution it will strip the cleaner wax, hydro slick stays on

    • @waterhead1027
      @waterhead1027 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm hoping it helps with the elements. It was worth a shot. it's expensive, but a little goes a long way. I know I would have gone through a lot more wax than I did hydro slick.

    Great video! Question; So my 25 year old “midnight blue” non-metallic paint on my classic Mercedes-Benz SL 320 shows some serious “spider webbing”, especially when in the afternoon sun. I’m not having it, no Sir! I have Meguiar’s cleaner wax, both liquid and paste. Which one would you recommend, and by hand or my orbital buffer? I’m thinking liquid with the orbital. Any thoughts? I also have Meguiar’s ultimate compound that I used last year, but feel it may be to aggressive at this point. The spider webbing is present, but not horrible. HELP!!!
    Thanks

    • @danlc95
      @danlc95 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Try the cleaner wax with the orbital.
      Do a test sopt with that, and if it doesn't work, try the Ultimate Compound with the orbital, then follow with the cleaner wax to remove any compounding haze, and protect the finish.

      Cleaner wax isn’t going to permanently solve your micro swirling issue. Let the professionals take care of it. Since your vehicle is older, it’s a good idea to assess the paint with a depth measurer to determine how much clear you’re working with. From their, it’s just determining what pad & compound / polish combo works great for your particular vehicle. All those consumer grade products are for beginners. I’ve been doing this since 2003 as a business and can’t tell you many times I’ve had clients attempt to do things on their own involving removing scratches only to make it dramatically worse.
