Your videos are really helpful, please notice that many people have stripped down threats from dipstick top cover and they need to replace it. This video partially covered this subject but it's not clear all the way to me how to do the shimming when cover is replaced. Any chance you can make a video covering the subject or maybe there is one made and I couldn't find it?
Ted, thanks so much for your videos! What tool do you use to shill the stop bolt in the shifting mechanism? The manual refers to P/N 3850057 which is impossible to find, and I also found a manual that mentions P/N 3856761 but doesn't specify for what model. Thank you in advance for your time.
Hey Ted.... I have a 2013 Regal 2500. I have a DPS-B outdrive. It looks different that this one. Is this a DP-S? Am I correct in thinking that a DP-S and a DPS are two different style drives? Are there any similarities? I work on my own stuff and I love your videos!! They so helpful for people like me. I really appreciate you taking the time to do these. I'm wanting to replace the u-joints only in mine, not the whole shaft assembly. Is that possible?
The older DPS was the one in my video. It was replaced in 2006(? ) with the DPS-A, which is similar inside but very different outside. It is also available with different gear ratios for the higher rpm 6.0L and GenV engines. Yours is a DPS-B with newer helical cut propshaft splines.
@@tedsmarinerepair8956 correct. I do have the helical splines. Makes it easy for the props to come off. The only difference I've heard between the A and B drives are the helical splines. Is that correct? Mine is a DPS-B 1.95. I have a V8 300-C-A. I ended up taking the u joints to my local driveshaft shop. They do plenty of Mercruiser but only a few VP's over the years. He said he would have to order in the joints as they're slightly different than the Mercs.
I have to change my upper gear case the dip stick threads are stripped? Do I just remove it and replace it using the same shims that are in place. Or does the shim hight have to be re calculated? Thanks
Большое спасибо!!!
Дай Бог Вам здоровья!!!
Очень помогли!!!
С благодарностью из Якутии.
I'm glad it helped you !! Let me know if you want any other specific videos.

That is a good video idea on shimming the cover and will be one for me to do.

Hello, what is the part number of the tool to unscrew the bearing retainer? Thank you

If you are changing the gear case, YES you must go through the full re-shimming procedures due each case is machined within a set tolerance.
@@tedsmarinerepair8956 do you have a video that shows how to do this?
@@carrigo53 We teach this in our marine technology degree courses.
@@tedsmarinerepair8956 is that an online class? Can damage be done to the drive if the shim is not correct?
@@carrigo53 no it is an in person course. And yes if the gears are not shimmed to the proper position it may cause catastrophic drive failure.
