Awesome content Ted!! I'm thinking of rebuilding my entire sx outdrive but I see a bunch of special tools. What's your opinion and do you have an outdrive for trade/sale. Should I spend the money on seals and bearings and tools and go myself or just buy a new properly assembled out drive? The boat (2003 seaswirl striper) is new to me and I don't think the outdrive has had the proper amount of oil in it for a long time. It ran almost dry and has metal shavings in it now.
Hi, if I’m only changing the prop shaft seals and only disassemble the outer shaft and bearing carrier, do I have to do anything to measure the bearings? Thinking of measuring and putting back the thrust ring in the exact same spot.
Great content, I've subscribed. Would you happen to have a video or correct initial timing procedure for a 2005 OSXI-DF? I've found conflicting and incomplete information. Thank you.
Great info as always Ted!!

It sounds like looking for a good used unit is necessary. It would not be cost effective to buy the special tools and try rebuilding it yourself.

Using a scan tool set the Ignition timing (Cam Retard) to between 12-15 degrees for 5.0 and 5.7 engines.
I’d love to see video for Alpha 1 g2
