      The first one didnt strip from the impact, it actually stripped from being hammered at an akward angle

      Also next time u should use the impact on the nut side and hold the bolt. It just puts less stress on everything.

      3 things... 1) I want to start by saying that I love your videos. 2) don't you start your nuts and bolts by hand first to avoid stripping them? 3) would it be possible to say how much the parts or kits cost, maybe an estimate. I live in Mexico and I know I can probably look it up online but I guess it would be one more reason to watch your videos. Also I don't mean like a cost for every single thing, just for like the bigger kits.

    • @magnetic0314
      @magnetic0314 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If it's a high end rattle gun, it will be torque limited when tightening, effectively meaning if anything the bolts won't be tight enough. But regardless he needs to learn that an impact wrench is primarily for undoing fasteners.

    To lock the threads and keep it from coming out.... thread the piece in, drill and tap like a 10-32 or 1/4-20 hole through the side into the threaded piece that comes loose (Not all the way through just like a 1/4 - 3/8" deep or so), and install a set screw with loctite on the set screw. You can also peen over (Take a pointed punch and hit near the whole deforming the metal into the threaded hole) where you installed the set screw adding another physical barrier so the set screw can't come loose.

    Don't feel bad Adam I followed the instructions that wisefab provided when cutting my tie rods for my 350Z they ended up being too short. After I ordered another set I just cut enough after test fitting it until I got it to have enough adjustability for it to work properly

    Take a cheap crescent wrench and a grinder and grind down the thickness of the head on each side till it fits. Had this problem when working on my jeep and it saved me. You only need to grind down towards the adjustment screw like and inch and a half.

  • @devonfarmer3438
    @devonfarmer3438 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey Adam next time you go to the hardware store get you a box of plumbing wire brushes they're really helpful for cleaning threads, you can also break the handle off and attach it to your drill, which is really helpfull for cleaning holes and such.

  • @jax_lab1751
    @jax_lab1751 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    I would say to go with new inner tie rods just to get a few more threads in, but that’s just me. Side note, there are several brands that make an “inner tie rod” tool, it is basically a long tube with an open face wrench on one end(and the tool comes with different sizes for different tie rod ends) and the other end is a 1/2” square to put a ratchet into. It’s been saving me time for years swapping tie rods, so I highly recommend. The Z is looking great man, congrats!

  • @SHONTONGA06
    @SHONTONGA06 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Adam, I have been taught that to be sure of good thread engagement, try to get 1.5 times the diameter to get the length of threads to do.. so for example, a 1 inch bolt into a block of aluminum, you would want about 1.5 inches engagement.. you can always get away with less, but it could cause the durability and reliability to decrease some.

  • @Fordman7575
    @Fordman7575 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    On those inner tie rod ends. If you can't find a thin wrench to fit them buy a cheap open end wrench that is the correct size. Then take either a belt sander( bench top not hand held ) or a grinder and just grind away at it until it's thin enough to fit. Or another option is to make a wrench out of some steel plate.

  • @ryanedmonds5159
    @ryanedmonds5159 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    The "skinny wrench" you want, is a Bonney wrench, or "service wrench". It's looks like an open end wrench with no closed end. Just a handle. And no they don't adjust. If need be you can also grind them down a little to make them skinnier.. Great for jam nuts and close tolerance.

    I'm not sure about the bushings on the control arms of that wisefab kit, but generally you don't want to tighten control arm bolts until the car is either on the ground or you put the control arm close to rideheight. Otherwise once the car settles the bushing tears/wears out very quickly.

  • @ThePandasian34

    Adam quick tip when you install nuts and bolts on a car. Tighten the nut not the bolt because its you tighten the bolt you have a way bigger chance of it snapping than the having the nut pull the bolt through and torquing it. Thats why in engines you put head studs instead of bolts because of more even torque distribution and WAY less chance of the bolt snapping in the block

    You should buy an inner tie rod tool. It's like 15 bucks. It bolts on and you can use a 3/8 ratchet and it'll fit inside the suspension, so you can tighten it without having to grab it from the a wrench

  • @geirkselim2697
    @geirkselim2697 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Another TH-camr AvE said in his video today that all you need for full strength in steel is 3 threads. If you can get that far in without effecting your toe it's safe. If you can afford tie rods and prefer getting new ones do it for you but if you want to drive soon the tie rods seem safe enough.

    Recomemed thread should be minimum 1.5x the diameter of the bolt or in your case adam the steering rack end, to stop your offset spacers coming loose could you fit a grub screw into the side of the fixing bolt you applied the thread locker as this would stop it turning.

    Not sure if you will see this but a small word of advise, I noticed when you were tightening the bolts with the impact you were using it on the bolt end rather than the nut. This can lead to stretching the bolts. Always best to tighten the nut onto the bolt.

  • @DestroyersGarage
    @DestroyersGarage 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    protip for cutting bolts. put an extra nut on the bolt, cut it then unscrew the nut, going with the thread stands up and deburrs the thread. or you can do it "properly and screw a cutting die on instead of the extra bolt.

    You must be able to get a slim spanner to go on the rack for tightening down? For E36's there's a slim spanner you can buy to remove the viscous fan, I bet they do them in other sizes. Unless you need a 32mm in which case, that BMW one would work perfectly.

    You shouldn't have a problem using only that amount of thread engagement on the tierod end. Almost all of the mechanical load on a bolt is held by the last three threads so as long as the bolt is of quality and well fit anything more than three is safe from a mechanical standpoint.

    they make a tool specific for installing/removing tie rods. With the amount of tie rods you deal with i would look into buying one because they're not very expensive.

    Shouldn't we be torquing things to spec? Sorry if I missed something. I don't say it maliciously or as a know it all mechanic just concerned for safety and what not.

    3 whole turns is all you need to meet fastener yield strength. Look at the thickness of that jam nut for comparison/ proof.

    Go with new tie rod's with the correct length and fit the aftermarket longer rack boots while you are at it. You don't want to have them come loose.

    In professional racing the rule of thumb is 1.5 times the diameter of the fastener is considered "safe" thread engagement.

    @Adamlz take a wrench and grind down the thickness so it will fit in that tight spot.

    I like how Matt made everyone want to build a drift 350z. Let’s see if Adam can take the OSW crown because money can’t always buy technique.

    Anyone know if you will need to cut and extended the crossmember for this angle kit? Or just the tire rods themselves

    Hey, Adam, if the tierod has atleast 10mm of thread (about 7 threads) in the rod-end at the correct alignment, then it is fine and should not be an issue. Atleast that´s how these rod-ends are typically meant to be. It might look scary, but should not be a problem.
