That looked like sand shooting from the jet. There are some plastic parts(lateral assembly) inside your sand filter that go bad and need to be replaced. You might as well change your sand while you are in there.

Thanks, Valik. I was able to clear the pool with the pump off so I suppose that's the next step. I appreciate your help!

I don’t miss messing with those pool test kits. Ugh. Yes baking soda can help if it’s calling for neutral. The sand does come the filter after backwashing. You do need to backwash more often when you have the Algae

Thanks, Curtis! If I back wash it enough, will it stop blowing sand or do I have a blown gasket in the filter?

@@SeabeeLand you might have blown gasket. Also when you do backwash. Switch to rinse for a few minutes to clear the water. Good luck. You will be happy with a DE filter when you can get one.
