Nice project. Looks very nice. PS. Like your new motto. "We won't have to go back to this blade, unless we absolutely have too" Wise words to live by ;)
damn good looking gun case. using raised panel is one of my all time favorite lid or door paneles. And the use of popular really makes it stand out. Good job,!
What a great inpiration for this video Drew. I hope he appreciates the thought behind the gun from his father and the case from you. Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing!
Thanks for the video - especially the tip about using the strips while separating the top from the base. That will eliminate a lot of cover-up sanding the next time I make a box. Thanks also for the hint about having a plan. I live sketchup!
That's a nice gun case, and it has a locking, but the hinges are on the outside, shouldn't they have been hidden? just my thoughts. Thanks for sharing another very nice project.
Nice job on the gun case. Was wondering why you did not finish the inside with sponge and or felt. Is nice idea and a keepsake as well. He should be proud to own it.
Awesome looking box. Only question i have is why you didnt use a form of hidden hinges as those you installed would be easy to unscrew and get into the box which defeats the purpose of putting locks on? Your nephew will love this box!
Thank you for the comment. It will be lined by my brother later to sandwich the gun nice and snug. The hinges can always be upgraded if needed. It is just meant to keep little hands out of places where they don't belong. It is just a case, not a safe so it will serve its purpose well.
Rock-n H Woodshop sorry i didnt mean to offend you on your hardware setup. I was just curious as i am a cabinet/furniture builder and saw a different motive to the hardware. I do like your channel very much and you have a simple way of laying things out for simple people and new people coming into to woodworking field. Keep up the great work!
Oh hell no! No offense taken. My nephew is 6 so he will have a difficult time taking the hinges off and if needed I can upgrade it. I kind of went a little overboard on this box but it might not last terribly long b/c it may take a lot of abuse. I usually take the time to hide hinges but this, to me, didn't feel that necessary.
Rock-n H Woodshop oh wow thats cool. Well by the time he wrecks this one he will be old enough for his uncle to teach him some of the skills to build a new cool box the rock n h way!!
Hey Mike, the only suggestion i can make it instead of raising the bit little by little, use the fence to ease the workpiece into he bit to take small bits of material at a time so the bit doesn't throw the material out of your hands.
I have a couple Military spec weapons I need a case for. So would you ........... Just kidding, they are already in cases. But if I did need to build a case, I would come to this video. Nice work on the new intro and the sponsorship!
VERY nice! I have one of those bits and haven't used it yet! I need to find a project to let me do so. Thanks for the router bit tips! It's a tool I use, but need information like that to know. I seen a comment and wonder myself... will you be making some padding on the inside to protect the case and prevent movement of the gun? Once again, beautiful project!
What a great gesture for your nephew :)... Is the lock at the front just for appearances because I see you decided to use open hinges at the back. Keep up the good work :)
not really but he is only 6, so he will have a difficult time to get in the box for now and if needed the box can be upgrade with concealed hinges. Another reason if he ever locks the keys in there, the box can still be opened.
Very nice outcome. I'm curious if you are happy with the Valspar (Lowes) spray lacquer. I tried it recently and was not at all happy with it. Maybe I just got a bad lot. For what it's worth I'm a long time fan of Deft but that is getting harder and harder to find.
You can fashion a push stick that glides on the fence that allows a smoother slide into the blade. The lining will be done by my brother with a thick foam that will sandwich the gun.
Nice job the only thing I would add is some kind of padding to hold the gun b in place so it doesn't move around. But other than that it is really a work of art.
Great looking gun case. One suggestion if it hasn't been mentioned by someone else (have to admit I haven't looked at all the comments,) The lid hinges should be concealed for security purposes rather than exposed on the outside. You do nice work.
Great job and thanks for the tips when cutting raised panels on the router. Looks like quite the pallet collection in your driveway. Are you planning on some pallet projects?
You gonna line it with anything? I'd hate to think of a nice gun rattling around in there unprotected :( Great looking box all the same though, just want to make sure it stays that way. Needs a handle too!
Thanks for taking the time to make quality videos. I discovered your videos while researching a way to store my ladder of all things. Anyway, I can tell a lot of time and dedication was spent making your videos and also appreciate all the tips.
Nice project. Looks very nice. PS. Like your new motto. "We won't have to go back to this blade, unless we absolutely have too" Wise words to live by ;)
Yea, it might be a new quote on a shirt. LOL
That is a beautiful box Drew. I'm sure you nephew will love an treasure it.
I hope so too. Thank you Michael!
Super project and thanks for sharing Drew.
Thank you John!
Outstanding job! Your nephew is going to treasure that for a long time.
I think so too Ricky! Thank you for the compliments
damn good looking gun case. using raised panel is one of my all time favorite lid or door paneles. And the use of popular really makes it stand out. Good job,!
Very nice work, Drew. A fine box that I'm sure will be treasured for a long time. Also, nice product placement with the bench cookies!
Ha ha, glad you liked it and thank you for sharing and commenting. I don't know what you are talking about "product placement"......?
Great build as usual, Drew. I really enjoy your projects and your style of presenting them to us.
Thank you John! So glad you liked the vid!
Wise tip on the raised panel bit and the speed, looks great Drew
Thank you Sterling! I greatly appreciate you sharing! Glad you found the tip useful!
very nice project Drew
Love this video. I've always wanted to try RP doors before. or just adding raised panels to cabinet work. Thank you for sharing
What a great inpiration for this video Drew. I hope he appreciates the thought behind the gun from his father and the case from you. Keep up the great work and thanks for sharing!
I think he will. His daddy won't let him forget it.
Well done. I think I may be purchasing that dovetail jig after all.
Awesome. I know that my particular jig has been discontinued but they still offer her the 16 inch version
Nice looking gun case Drew. Love the branding iron!
I thought the intro fire was for effect, seems that's what happens when branding! So cool
Thanks Nick! I do too.
Beautiful piece! Awesome work!
Thank you
Great looking box. Another great video.
Thank you Ron
You should make one of those tactical shelves. Love you work keep them coming.
That gun case looked great thanks for sharing. I might just try that for my 30/30.
That turned out awesome, good job.
Thank you
Thanks for the video - especially the tip about using the strips while separating the top from the base. That will eliminate a lot of cover-up sanding the next time I make a box. Thanks also for the hint about having a plan. I live sketchup!
Thank you Kenny! So glad you liked it.
Extremely NICE! Enjoyed your demonstration.
Dave Barr thank you so much Dave. Much appreciated.
Fine case. Quality hardware. Personalized. CD of the build inside? Should make a memorable birthday for your nephew.
I agree! Thank you for sharing and commenting.
That turned out great Drew!
Thank you Tamas! Glad you liked it.
That's a nice gun case, and it has a locking, but the hinges are on the outside, shouldn't they have been hidden? just my thoughts.
Thanks for sharing another very nice project.
+Paul Idzior
It is Poplar (sorry, I cannot reply to your comment, you might change your settings)
Nice job on the gun case. Was wondering why you did not finish the inside with sponge and or felt. Is nice idea and a keepsake as well. He should be proud to own it.
That will be done by my brother with foam to sandwich the gun for a nice tight fit. Thank you for your comment and share.
Awesome looking box. Only question i have is why you didnt use a form of hidden hinges as those you installed would be easy to unscrew and get into the box which defeats the purpose of putting locks on? Your nephew will love this box!
I thought the same thing.
Thank you for the comment. It will be lined by my brother later to sandwich the gun nice and snug. The hinges can always be upgraded if needed. It is just meant to keep little hands out of places where they don't belong. It is just a case, not a safe so it will serve its purpose well.

Nice! Finally got to watch it. Very niece piece. He will love it. Great video too!
Thank you Angie! So glad you liked it.
Awesome project man!! That's a beautiful case. If your nephew doesn't appreciate it, I am sure my Benelli would lol.
Ha, so glad you liked it Micah! I am sure he will appreciate it.
I like the shirt you wore. seems appropriate to the build...
Ha, yup
Nice box and use of different techniques. 00:45 up and comming pallet wood project?
a HUGE project, yes.
Looks great Drew.
Thank you Barrett.
Case is beautiful Drew, well done. Good to know that valspar has spray varnish, from lowes?
Yea, it is an okay finish spray. Takes a little more sanding to make it smooth but still works great if you do not have an HVLP sprayer.
It looks great Drew!
Andrea Arzensek thank you
Adding a brass handle might be a good touch. Nice work!
+Mike Prell Good idea! Thank you!
cool gift im sure he will treasure it!
Thank you
Wow, pretty awesome stuff that dovetail jig. Good idea for xmas gift..:) Btw again good idea and doog video.
Thank you Martin. That is my favorite jig.
Nice box Drew, I didn't know about the slow speed on the panel bit. Suggestion if you don't have a variable speed router?
Hey Mike, the only suggestion i can make it instead of raising the bit little by little, use the fence to ease the workpiece into he bit to take small bits of material at a time so the bit doesn't throw the material out of your hands.
Great video well put together and very informative
Great job on the gun case. Might good to line with felt.
My brother is taking care of that project. My job was just to make the box!
Turned out really nice! Only the hinges are a little easy to unscrew I guess. But then again this is not a safe.
Yup, it can always be changed if I need to. It is just meant to keep little fingers out of places they don't belong
When it's closed the hinge screws are concealed
Great looking case!
Thank you JD
Great use of a dado stack..
Thank you glad you liked it.
Nice work Drew! Makes me want to bust out my dovetail jig!
I was wondering while watching.. is it about the same time to setup the jig as it is to layout the cuts manually?
McGinn's WoodShop With that jig and 4 joints it's faster to do it with the jig
McGinn's WoodShop Doesn't take that long once you get used to it. 5 minutes or less and I'm set up.
Great job! the video is well done. I love how you explain all your moves. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you Chris! Glad you liked it.
maybe i wasnt paying attention, but what wood did you use? and also do you have any other videos showing different types of joins?
I have a couple Military spec weapons I need a case for. So would you ........... Just kidding, they are already in cases. But if I did need to build a case, I would come to this video. Nice work on the new intro and the sponsorship!
Glad you liked the video and sorry.......I just don't have the tim.........oh wait you're kidding. Sorry! So glad you like the video and inspiration
Nice!! Love poplar. Not many seem to like it though... But i love it.
Nice video.. First I've watched of your videos
mike wright Hope you like the rest of them. Thank you for watching.
Waouuu, very good work Rock-h, perfect for a long rifle !!!! Yannick from Thaïland
Thank you Yannick. So glad you like it.
love the poplar.. great job as always..
Thank you
Gonna fix up a vintage air rifle, make it custom and make a nice walnut case with brass fittings for my nephew.
It will get a foam from my brother that will sandwich the gun to keep it nice and snug.
What kind of wood did you use to make it?
What a great gesture for your nephew :)... Is the lock at the front just for appearances because I see you decided to use open hinges at the back. Keep up the good work :)
not really but he is only 6, so he will have a difficult time to get in the box for now and if needed the box can be upgrade with concealed hinges. Another reason if he ever locks the keys in there, the box can still be opened.

Yea, it's okay. It takes more sanding to get it smooth but it still works great if you do not have an HVLP sprayer. Thanks Alex
Very nice gift. Surprised you didn't line the inside or something. Very scary last cut to create the top. Isn't there a better way?
You can fashion a push stick that glides on the fence that allows a smoother slide into the blade. The lining will be done by my brother with a thick foam that will sandwich the gun.
Nice job the only thing I would add is some kind of padding to hold the gun b in place so it doesn't move around. But other than that it is really a work of art.
Thank you Chris. Yea, my brother will be taking care of that portion. My job was to make the case.
You should make a gun case like this one for a pistol
+InfraredExotics Oh yea, good idea. My wife has a 38 special that I can possibly make it for.
Great looking gun case. One suggestion if it hasn't been mentioned by someone else (have to admit I haven't looked at all the comments,) The lid hinges should be concealed for security purposes rather than exposed on the outside. You do nice work.
yea that will be an upgrade later if my brother wants it. I did a follow up vid on this build to explain my reasoning. Thanks FJ
Hey drew, great project. Is that a new camera, the video looked much better an I loved all the new angles.
Thank you and yes it is s new camera. Canon T3i Rebel
Great job and thanks for the tips when cutting raised panels on the router. Looks like quite the pallet collection in your driveway. Are you planning on some pallet projects?
Not projects, a BIG PROJECT! Gonna take me a long time to accumulate what I need but it will SOOOOOO be worth it.
Nice gave me some ideas
Awesome.
Artist
Thank you
Does your nephew watch your channel? Are you going to spoil the surprise if it's not Nov 10th yet? Nice job on the case!
No he is too young to have a computer to view TH-cam vids unless his dad shows him.
what the measurement of this box
Always love your work I learn tons of it thanks like always smashing my like botton kaboooooooooooooom
Thank you so much. I greatly appreciate it.
felicitaciones hermoso trabajo ejecutado con total prolijidad gracias jorge de argentina
Thank you and so glad you enjoyed the project! Hello from USA
What, no BOOM?
You gonna line it with anything? I'd hate to think of a nice gun rattling around in there unprotected :( Great looking box all the same though, just want to make sure it stays that way. Needs a handle too!
Liner and handle will be done by my brother! My job was to make the box. I think I went a little overboard though.
Why put hinges on outside? That defeats the purpose of locking it...just take off hinges and I'm in
First comment; So where ya gonna park the truck if you get more pallets? Momma must be happy as well as the neighbors. hehe
Neighbors haven't said anything..............yet. LOL! I really need to break it down.
Thanks for taking the time to make quality videos. I discovered your videos while researching a way to store my ladder of all things. Anyway, I can tell a lot of time and dedication was spent making your videos and also appreciate all the tips.
Thank you Hue! So glad you found me. Glad to have you!
Good vid, but I think someone has a pallet addiction:)
You got that right
