🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Lool. Doesn’t look too complicated if you’re patient.
Quality. 😂
😂😭😂😭
This needs to stay top comment
Mine came busted. I just did this. I’ve never soldered in my life. Went to the hardware store and followed along. It’s working!! I’m so freaking stoked. Thanks so much for this video ✌🏻
No problem I'm glad you have a working unit.
Wow, that took some balls considering its brand new. Well done!
Someone's gotta go first I guess!
Your journey into the unknown cannot be appreciated enough. Thanks for this!
Hell yeah! Videos like this blaze the trail for the right to repair! Companies will watch this and try to be cool by allowing customers to repair stuff themselves
I am a HUGE advocate for right to repair. I can't tell you all the stuff I've fixed over the years, laptops, gopros, mouses, and much more! Thanks for your comment brother.
This is how to fix the fader on your EP-133 K.O.II. Please sub if you found this interesting.
Isn't this basically new?
How much use did you get out of it before the fader died?
Do you think the suspicions were correct about the issue happening during the knob install? It looks like those pins could be pretty easy to bend and may just be too soft to handle any external loading.
@@matt-lang
100% looks that way to me.
You did us all a huge service. Thank you brave soldier.
Brave *solder.
I'm mostly impressed by how incredibly little circuitry is in this thing.
exactly, looks to be only a handful of chips at most
It's probably the same as a regular pocket operator with a souped up os.
Damn, this is much more entertaining than watching people make beats with KOII lol
TE should thank you for this. I ordered my EP133 the day it was released but was already having some anxiety and buyers remorse that I’d get a broken unit. Was thinking of maybe cancelling. But even just knowing that if I had to I could fix it has put my mind at ease. Your video single-handedly earned TE a sale.
Lol personally I am staying far away from a new product that may immediately need repaired
TE most likely doesn’t want to acknowledge this video lol. When will people learn?
Thanks man, I just fixed my fader 1 hour ago thanks to your video. Totally doable, and I'm definitely a soldering noob.
Finally the fader is working as it should, it came out of the box half-ass.
Shame on TE for this bad experience.
YOU DID IT! ha!
dude i feel like we're living the same exact reality simultaneously!
Congrats man! you jus saved me the effort of making one myself :D
I actually found this video while searching to find if you posted your video yet 😂 and ya now you don't have to 🎉
WOW! Cool. Nice work Decima1! Hey, I wanted to mention, there is probably a "Solderless Solution" here. I have used this method (trick) with misbehaving slider switches, and it probably could be utilized here, most likely also fixing the issue... So, to fix without soldering, we are going to improve contact of the slider by slightly deforming the top of the slider's metal casing - evenly on both sides. To do this, we would need a set of long needle nose pliers. On the end of one side of the pliers, you need to tape into place (using gaffers tap), a single BB, from a BB gun. This will be the contact point for bending down the exterior of the slider track. Then perhaps a clean Popsicle stick to protect the back side of the board from the other side of the pliers. What were are going to do is cave in slightly the housing of the slider evenly all along the track on both sides. Just a small amount is needed.! This will create a much tighter channel for the slider, provide downward pressure, and thus a far superior connection of the contacts. You will have to be careful not to crush the slider housing down too far or the slider will bind. If you eff it up, you can always then proceed as Decima1 is showing here - which is a much more professional fix, but you'll need to be comfortable with de-soldering a major component of the board. Great work Decima1!
Yea man. That sounds fun. Can you put up a video cuz we all newbies here!!! Bb n popsicle sticks ::::: we should have the right to repair!!!
That thing isn't even out yet and there is already a fix-vid up :D :D :D
To stop this happening again after the repair, you ideally need to put a little plastic skirt of some kind on the base of the slider knob, to prevent the knob being able to push down too far towards the front plate (which in turn pushes down on the fader bending the two wipers).
I was thinking the same thing after looking at my tr-8s and its 11 faders
Ideally you need some kind of rubber "lips" to protect the case against any dust and particles falling inside. IMO it's a bigger evil and potentially can cause much more problems.
Yeah, that "spacer fix" may be a good thing too! You never know if somebody will try your gear and break it because you can't worry everybody.
Serious companies usually protect their faders (against dust) with "brush lips".
@@CycleSage faders on the TR are waaay better quality. They can take some rough handling.
They addressed the packaging issues with the unit in January. I just purchased one today, when I pick it up I will respond with my experience but plan on testing it in store first to be sure.
Thanx my dear, you rode in front and I followed...my fader is working again...thanks to you!!
the burp told me that I can trust you ;o)
Damn already? This just came out
Thanks for posting buddy, so I thought about what you said with connection. I pressed on the front of the case about where the screw would be located and lo and behold the speaker fired up. I’ll be taking it apart tonight to tighten the screws. Saved me from RMA Thanks bro
Doesn't look like good quality if it broke after less than a week.
Man thanks so much! I had the same issue and after watching this video it made me wander if i could fix this without taking it apart. I managed to bend those contacts with a hair pin and now it works fine! Couldn't have done it without you disassembling the fader in the first place to show me what was what👍
This is awesome I'm glad!!!
No soldering required? I’m interested, my unit just arrived and the faders non responsive right out of the box, without trying to install knob lol.. really want to fix it but don’t have soldering equipment, and also don’t have any experience doing any soldering lol
I feel like you're speedrunning EP-133 ownership lol
I don't think mine's even shipped yet and you've made almost a dozen videos including a repair guide.
I’m thinking there’s probably a better fader it can be swapped with …when I get mine, I’ll see if any of the spares I have match the specs, and if so, I’ll share the part number 🤓
Please do
Please!
Another great reason for me to wait 6 months. Thank you.
You sit did the right thing who knows when your get a replacement unit. Sometimes us creators have to take control and you did kudos to you and your channel here’s to you creating great muaic
Dude, amazing. Way deeper than I would be tempted to go but I love your tenacity. What do they say? "God gives us the nuts but he does not crack them?" Glad you got it working again.
Delighted that your brave step worked out! Thanks for showing us the solution, for the broken ones, and for those fearing the future. Tut tut TE.
Yup probably from pushing in that ridiculously tight knob. Happy you fix it!
So the fader was damaged due to too much pressure from attaching the fader's cap?
Nice ass job, man. Very nice. When I suggested you take it apart, that was largely based on the vibes you gave off. I knew it was something you could do easily and, at the same time, educate others. You made me LOL at "10,000 screws." .... You also said something interesting, and that was, "custom key caps." I'm a PC gamer and very familiar with DIY custom keyboards, switches and keycaps. I am positive someone will release overpriced custom keycaps for this. I get mine on Tues and, super excited. I am hoping to hear my complex DnB tracks from you, Josh Wink energy level, Underworld, etc etc. You're my new fav EP133 KO 2 dude on here. Honestly, thank you for the content and the time and effort that takes.
It broke already?
That's exact same position I sit while I do electronics 😂
Can't wait to see how a company with infamously poor customer service, is going to handle this mess.......?
Best DIY i've seen in awhile 😂😂
Already broken?
thank you so much for making this video, saved me from sending my unit back... and made me learn how to solder.
Its a good skill to have
It looks like it could be easily avoidable if it would come with a knob preinstalled in the factory. The knob is sticking outside the rail, so it should protect the fader from being pushed down too much. At least, I hope it will work this way. If not, then it's a significant design flaw. Still, I don't feel comfortable with my purchase. I hope they will freeze the shipping and solve the problem before they ship another batch.
thank u man! this makes me less anxious about the issue 🙌
wtf. it’s been out for like 2 days
I hope TE are on the phone saying thank you...great vid.
I'm proud of you son.
I haven’t received mine yet but wonder if you think holding the fader post with needle nose pliers and applying equal counter pressure when installing/pushing the fader knob on might be a good preventative measure? Any thoughts?
Maybe the tiniest bit of lube too, just to reduce friction?
Just want everyone that tries to fix it them selves and worried about voiding their warranty. Get familiar with the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act, 🤙
Thanks! First look at the unit I thought that fader is going bust one day. The soft case is out.
I played my part , digging into various places, bringing ideas together. Very glad its working out. Phew
Thanks so much for demonstrating the fix! Still wonder how many of these sliders are getting crushed under the weight of heavier packages during shipping and how many are just failing due to the design of the slider knob requiring so much pressure to install it. When mine arrives I'm going to first put the slider through some tests without the knob to make sure it wasn't damaged in shipping. If no problems there then I'll see if it feels like it's going to take a lot of pressure to put the knob on. If it does, then I'm thinking I might try using a Dremel to take a little bit off the thickness of the top few mm of the metal slider post. Just enough to let the knob fit snugly but without needing a lot of pressure to push it on. I'll probably have to poke the slider post through a big sheet of plastic film first to make sure I don't get any metal dust flying into the rest of the unit but I'm hoping that does the trick without having to deal with a warranty issue or risk voiding the warranty by opening the unit.

Nice work. Valuable information you provided with your perilous journey
That board is huuuge, and mostly bare. I don't know why I expected anything else, with how everything's placed. But come on, you get 5 times the circuit board for 3 times the price of the original ko :))
The fader looks cheap, but it's a standard part, easy to replace (maybe upgrade) if it does completely fail.
I love how they implemented the screen - two dozen leds on the main board and colored plastic front - makes sense since they're just function indicator lights. The three character display is custom, or at least I haven't seen that segment arrangement anywhere else.
I can buy the thing with some confidence now. Thanks!
Yeah!!!! Thanks for risking it and sharing! So glad you were able to fix the unit :)
Nice job on fixing it. I'd have done the same. Any excuse to get the soldering iron out! Seems strange the knobs aren't pre-fitted. It looks like the pressure needed to fit the slider knob is bending the prongs in the fader so they no longer make contact with the track. They either need to redesign that or install the fader knob before shipping. But if they don't redesign it or use a better quality part, any knock on the fader knob will potentially bend the prongs.
What's the board thickness? Did you take any pictures of the PCB?
Reminiscent of the pots on the po's.
So you posted the part and it ready B100k. Bourns 100k sliding potentiometer?
I can't find one where the black plastic piece matches perfectly. Anyone else find the exact part yet??
I have a new problem, my Ko 2 even has the wrong button installed. If you want to make a video about it or a very short one, I'll be happy to send you a picture.
Please send me a photo decima1musician@gmail.com
I sent one if the quality is too bad I'll make a better one.
@@wilhelmknoche1451 the image quality is fine thanks!!
just got mine , didn't put on knob, first thing I checked and it don't work right. with a little pressure it works but when letting off it levels jumps around :( Thanks for the video
update ..I did the same and for now at least its fixed quite the pain in the as though.
Hey buddy love your vids. I need to fix my speaker, my Fader is fine. If I twist the unit slightly the speaker kicks on for a second. Did you happen to see if the speaker uses these same kind of pins? I was thinking solder on the contact points would do it of the speaker as long as I don't bridge the points.
Hey i have a question! My screen visor is kinda bent and im wondering if theres a safe way to „detach” the screen visor and try to install it correctly. Do you might know if i have to disassemble the whole unit to do so?
What would you say about the overall durability of the whole unit? Thank you for doing this. Did you by chance scan the board while it was open? Be nice to be able to refer to it and it's part numbers.
So this then confirms the pins are being bent while the knob is being installed then? I doubt that much force is being applied that directly while shipping... So it seems either not installing the knob on the fader (as you said in an earlier video) or possibly using a dremel tool to make the knob fit could be good solutions.. that or T.E. just sends out stuff that fits.. Thank you for taking your stuff apart so we can all see!!!
Did you get to take a look at the hard drive? I wanted to know if it could be upgraded
My fader broke due to the cap installation on day one (happy Christmas surprise!) I connected with TE helpdesk and they offered a return label. Due to the same reasoning as in the video, I decided to perform a repair myself. I succeeded after some trouble in desoldering the fader unit. Now I'm waiting for TE's response on how to put on the fader cap again without risking another fail
Do not install the fader cap, use a piece of lego instead
Thank you for taking the plunge!!!!
Mine showed up with broken fader, broken speaker (*have to squeeze it to get sound) and broken mic jack/line in jack. Cray cray. Printing your new fader knob now... (THANKS)
Why are we replacing the fader? My EP-133's fader is fine, is there a thing where they are showing up broken?
wow i'm not going to do this but i'm curious how this didn't pass QA, it seems like the prongs are the only thing holding the fader up
is the bend pins from too much pressure on the slider from placing the knobs on or during transit? or just a cheap part?
I think its from installing the button and or tranist some peoples sliders were not working without putting the button on
I've a feeling it's a combination of both.
Did you happen to see if the memory could be expanded like the Boss RC505 inside the unit?
I think it is a combination of the packaging being about 2 mm too thin and also the force required to put the cap. I got mine today and even before taking the cellophane off the box I noticed the slight protusions on the box cover where the stems of fhe potentiometers and fader are. This means that the box was probably in a large stack of boxes and the weight of the boxes on top put presure on the flimsy packaging. On the inside the ink rubbed off onto the box on the pressure points. Then the cap itself does not fit without applying considerable pressure. All of this is a recipe for failure. TE droped the ball on the packaging and the cap. So far, my slider is working, but I'm almost afraid to touch it, which is silly.
I noticed this exact same thing, ink rubbed off onto the box and I suspect its because of the packaging too. RMA'd it but im dreading the exchange time it could be a while before i see a replacement
Making it happen! Nice work.
Yessssss!!! Love the ingenuity tenacity and fortitude here!!! Quick question as my fader seems perfect in working physically but zero functionality in software. Like it’s not connected or something. Do I still need to solder or is it a simpler fix???? Peace n thx a mundo:)))))
The fader pins need to make contact with the metal plate so you will have to use the method in this video or there is another method using a paper clip to bend the pins down. I haven't done the paperclip method so you should ask around how to do that from others.
Just used a Bobby pin with a right angle only at end and the little plastic bubble on tip. I did it!!! Just did one side down in and slowly push down then the other side. Ez. Seconds and works great!!! I am not a tech but it really was ez. Make sure it’s turned off of course.
Also hoping Decksaver is going to make a protective hard plastic cover for the EP-133. Going to send them a request now to make sure it's on their radar.
I don't know why TE doesn't ship the device with the knobs already fitted. The slider one, in particular, seemed very difficult to apply, and it is the required pressure that is likely to have bent the contacts.
Hey Decima1, are those red/orange switches swappable?
Bruh, ya'll just got these things...
It sucks that it broke but I'm super impressed that it's a metal quasi-user-serviceable slider thingy in there! Now I'm a lot more excited that mine is showing up tomorrow. 😂
Ha! I knew you were gonna end up DIY on the fader, cos that's so frustrating to pay hundreds of dollars for something that doesn't work, even if you get warranty repairs offered. Well done man. Exactly what I would have done, and now people know that it's time consuming, but not dangerous, to open the case up and adjust some contacts. You'll probably have to do it more than once, might as well get some practise in now!
It looks surprisingly simple on the inside... i'm still wondering if the storage is upgradable
Do you remember the name of the 3 main chips ? if I remember correctly, PO was based on ESP32
just thought i’d add that my ep133 arrived today w/ a broken fader, so i guess im in the club. also found out bboy tech report’s also had a broken fader.
Curious to know what the KO II will look like after a month! 🤣
So the process of installing the fader knob doesn't matter after all, correct? Downward pressure will not cause the issue in the first place, right?
Way to go man. Looks like there were s few challenges, but you pushed through. Congratulations. You seem to really be learning the box quickly. Thanks for sharing the repair. I saw a cool fx demo from someone else. Can we get an fx demo?
Now since my slider works im d
Great job on the repair and the video showing the process! Glad it was just a simple matter of bending the fader wiper strips back into place. I hope TE does some testing on this and upgrades the fader to a more robust slide potentiometer on future batches of the EP-133. I also hope they acknowledge that their user community did a lot of the work for them in identifying the issue and the repair. You deserve credit from both us in the EP-133 community and definitely from TE themselves. They owe you big time for this manufacturing defect not becoming a full-blown scandal. You may have saved TE some face on this matter. Send DECIMA1 some good stuff TE! He's the hero you deserve!
Did you take some pictures of the slider? Part number maybe? I’m pretty sure it’s just an of the shelf component
What processor does this thing use?
awesome dude! did you by any chance find out what the value and type of the fader was?
Did you take a look at the contact tracks which those prongs should be in good contact with? I'd really like to see how the contact surface looks like.
This is amazing! Hopefully TE sees this (and *doesn't* nuke the video).
I'm NOT putting that slider knob on when I get mine.
👍🏻 If you please, do you think that the mechanical issues with the pinched Keys and Fader buttons and the nonfunctioning fader were the result of a design flaw or an accident that might’ve happened at the factory or during shipping?
I'm working on a video addressing fadergate stay tuned!
There is no elwctronics inside! 3 or 4 chips? 😮
From my experience with dodgy pots and faders it's always better to just replace them with ne ones as any repair is likely to fail again after some time and you really only wanna open the plastic latches on such casings and desolder the pcb so many times.
I filed the inside of the fader knob so it slides in easier. is that safe to do?
Has your internal speaker been problematic at all? I was grateful my fader was fine out of the box, and I opted not to even push the cap onto it for fear of damaging it. But the internal speaker triggers….pretty inconsistently. Occasionally some of the melodic sounds seem to trigger mor often than any of the percussion samples…..I’m not sure if this is something with velocity settings, audio routing (not sure that’s even an option) or, more likely than not, some issue with the speaker being misassembled. Perhaps it’s not fully soldiered on? Anyhow…you seem by far out of all the reviews the most adept with electronics. The fader is clearly a much more common issue but I have noticed a few other people asking about the speaker….but thus far no one has any real solutions. Thanks!
Speakergate video is in the works
@@DECIMA1 Awesome. I just posted a poll in the user group on Reddit….curious how widespread the issue is. Debating returning my copy but since the fader is ok, I’m afraid I’d just end up with a broken fader or both. It’s been mentioned that the packaging seems insufficient to protect the machine during shipping. There are visible pressure marks on the interior packaging that held the unit that correspond to all the knobs, and two spots for the fader (like it shifted in transit and created two pressure marks for different positions.) The caps were also loose and rattling around the packaging….not sure if this could’ve damaged anything. The quality control has been a bit disappointing, considering how intuitive I’ve found the U.I., along with it just being a pleasure to hold and use.
You’re a hero. Well done. It was hard to see the pins. Did some pins get pushed back when you pushed the button onto the slider or were the pins UNDER the mechanism? 😊The BURP was priceless.😊
good day, what type of keys inside? thanks
There is also a chance to get some pressure issue with the "ENTER" key. Just got mine and the fader didn't work, as well as the screen didn't show anything, but 30-39 number all the time, related to the pressure around or on the "ENTER" key :(
Same did you tried this fix and did this also fix that issue?
Interesting! I was curious if that display was an oled made to look like a VFD or how they obtained that retro look. This thing looks like a credit card reader from the 1980's. Rare to see a teardown this soon! Thanks!
it has low profile cherry-style keyswitches, interresting.
fader broken? haven't these only been out a week?
Do you think they are getting damaged when putting the knobs on the faders?
