OK, I am still waiting for my EP-133 (it was supposed to arrive today), but I have been recording many Pocket Operator tracks into a DAW, and I honestly think you don't need to make the effort to MIDI-sync it. Just make sure the DAW-tempo matches the one on the KO II exactly, and record it without any sync. After that, just go to clip view, find the first beat, right-click and select 'Set 1.1.1 here'. Et voila. The tempo is stable enough to record at least 1-2 minutes without having to correct anything. (pro tip: if the chosen group doesn't have a sound exactly on the 1, just put an extra bar in front of it that does start with a short-attack sound on the 1). That saves connecting a few wires, and you don't need an audio-interface with MIDI.
Also if you have a drum sequence instead of a drum sample and want to record the drums separately go to "Sound" menu, lower the volume (AMP) of every pad except the one you want to record. For example if you're recording the kick drum you can lower the volume of every other pad so you can just record the kick, do this with every element in different channels to get a proper drum recording. This also works as a "pad mute", instead of having to mute whole groups. If you have 3 synths sequenced in group C you can just lower the volume of the sequenced pads and then bring them in with this trick.

YO so I'm looking closely at this thing and saw it has a USB port, but no one has mentioned it. According to the TE guide, it's for power and Midi, "the usb-c port allows K.O. @@AveMcree Yeah I'm just talking about for syncing purposes. It would still require recording audio through an interface, but using usb-midi instead of the 3.5mm midi ports will save the hassle of dealing with those fickle 3.5mm to midi connectors - especially because it seems like this requires a type-A connector, when most other devices require the type-B connectors. Just sayin', there's an easier way.
Can anyone help me out? I’m trying to use this method to record into session view instead of arrangement. The reason i want to do this is to have every clip be a beat i can trigger and more easily mix into a beat tape. I got everything synced up correctly. On my macbook i run the ep-133 directly over usb-c to usb-c and have it controlling the midi sync. For some reason when i have an armed track in session view it defaults to trying to record into the arrangement view. I have to wait for my loop on the ep-133 to go all the way around and then manually trigger a clip on the session view. It still syncs up correctly but its just annoying to have to wait for the loop to go around. Especially if im tracking out an entire song. The only workaround i can think of is to make the ep-133 the midi slave to ableton but then it will get out of sync if i do any fx that switch up the timing like the tape slow/stop.
So only a track out at a time. I guess work flow is not a topic as much Ha! That is hella time consuming for some. IM sure some wont mind but if you mov through beats fast this is a tough one to get pass. Thanks for the vid though.
Proved once again that AI is no substitute for an artist, it's just a tool! P.S. can you please add to the description the device you used to transfer the track from KO2 EP-133 to the computer?
I haven’t seen anyone else come across this issue but I just grabbed a Novation launchkey mk3. When I connect midi out to midi in on the KO2 it changes the bpm of my beat. Any clue what’s going on?
Great tutorial but you dont need to use the midi ports, your not transferring midi data other than bpm, just use the output channel and go 3.5 trs to 1/4 inch, no adapter. The midi ins and outs are meant for using with synths and to control other instruments.
You’re midi syncing so each track lines up to the same start point of your session as you go through your various tracks / layers / instruments of your song. To your point, sending BPM but also allowing your computer to start the track synced up to zero as opposed to starting both machines by hand and having to use two hands inevitably leaving your two machines out of sync and timing off.
He explained at the beginning that you need an audio interface with midi capabilities. A purely MIDI interface is pretty rare these days so audio interface is the more common term as that’s it’s most common use.
Buy 2 and you can have 18 projects and 128 MB of memory. I guess that’s TE’s sales strategy. Not to mention that as a bonus you can have 2 broken faders and 2 bad speakers plus a few more stuck buttons. What’s really frustrating is that I really want one and don’t want one by the same amount. Frustrating!
This hardware revision is not the last word. They can fix weak mechanics and contacts for no money on later hardware revisions. Also they are known for special editions, like they did for PO's. Maybe that comes with more storage. It's cool to have a KO II these days, but it's also smart to wait. 🤔
@@lupehn Use a hair dryer to heat your knobs up, before you plug them in. Also set the fader to highest or lowest position, before you mount the knob. Those positions have better mechanical stability.
My fader didn’t work out the box. The box puts pressure on the fader. It’s a very tight fit. Next PO will probably have a recessed fader or be smaller or a bigger box.
Man, it's so refreshing seeing someone just enjoying the fuck out of their gear rather than bashing it and talkingad shit because it's not 100% perfect. Nothing is. No software, no hardware. It's just an on going trend to see people trash things because it makes them seem cool and "hilarious". Man, I thought this was a music producer scene, not an improve comedy one

Just sayin', there's an easier way.
@@2tallcharles99 if you tried to record with the USB plugged up, it would make too much noise
@@AveMcree Ahh ok, I tried this last night and you're right. Thanks for clearing it up 🙏

But does it work in Logic?
Yes
So only a track out at a time. I guess work flow is not a topic as much Ha! That is hella time consuming for some. IM sure some wont mind but if you mov through beats fast this is a tough one to get pass. Thanks for the vid though.
So would this work on the NI komplete audio interface?
does it have midi in an out?
midi type A or type B ?
Whats the external in fl for? I usually put my take 5 on it but should it be my audio interface?
whatever you plugged the midi into
@FayezButts so 5pin midi is all thats for?
I dont see external sync????
Why not subscribe to this guy? Hmm? Why?
Do you know how to set this up in Pro Tools?
Proved once again that AI is no substitute for an artist, it's just a tool!
P.S. can you please add to the description the device you used to transfer the track from KO2 EP-133 to the computer?
I'm sorry but... does this NOT sync through the USB-C ?!
I haven’t seen anyone else come across this issue but I just grabbed a Novation launchkey mk3. When I connect midi out to midi in on the KO2 it changes the bpm of my beat. Any clue what’s going on?
Your launchkey must be sending midi clock. Disable that if you wish.
What is the sampling time on the KO ll
From memory it's 6 minutes stereo, 12 minutes mono - that's total sampling time across the whole unit before it maxes out
@@TheCyberspaceCowboy that's not enough time for sampling bro??????🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣😑😑😑😑
20 secs per sample i think aswell
@ 1:14 "He said connect your midi cable to audio interface" He meant connect your midi cable to your "midi interface"
He explained at the beginning that you need an audio interface with midi capabilities. A purely MIDI interface is pretty rare these days so audio interface is the more common term as that’s it’s most common use.
Can u do one for protools 😅
@@towerrunner4675I get mine in a month so mine won’t fader will be fixed
@@lupehn Use a hair dryer to heat your knobs up, before you plug them in. Also set the fader to highest or lowest position, before you mount the knob. Those positions have better mechanical stability.
Broken faders and broken speakers are a huge issue. They need to do a recall.
Mine work 🤷🏾♂️
@@norenttv_good for you?
Yeah I returned mine because the speaker was an issue.
My fader didn’t work out the box. The box puts pressure on the fader. It’s a very tight fit. Next PO will probably have a recessed fader or be smaller or a bigger box.
Why not just use USB midi?
Because the usb causes noise
@AveMcree I hooked mine up via USB and good news, there's no noise.
Next thing to go over the KO ii is how the hell did you get yours so fast? I'm checking my email like every 30 minutes....lol Naw, nice tut for sho...
Can it record stereo out?
Just record it in stereo
With a push 3, mpc key and Maschine + I can’t see a reason to pull the trigger
then don't
@@AveMcree Lol! Point blank!
@@AveMcree I’m in Step 1 of recognizing my FOMO … damn thing looks fun tho! Keep at it bro!!!
Mobility with monster battery life?
Man, it's so refreshing seeing someone just enjoying the fuck out of their gear rather than bashing it and talkingad shit because it's not 100% perfect. Nothing is. No software, no hardware. It's just an on going trend to see people trash things because it makes them seem cool and "hilarious". Man, I thought this was a music producer scene, not an improve comedy one
you went through the setup waaaay too quickly. Where does the midi number you inputted come from? what?
Dam wish there was an easier way to track out each individual group or even pad and record it in at once :(
Day 2 of trying to help Unc with his MPC problem.. Unc the other day you were in denial about the issue at hand. Please help me, help you by giving me the MPC Live II
You need to wait longer on menus and screens when giving instruction. Moves way too quickly to follow along.
Good stuff Ave, waiting on my KO2 to be dropped off any minute now. 🫡 Keep em coming.
Will do!
