Tony Yazbeck and Michael Berresse perform "Nowadays / Hot Honey Rag" from Chicago
The 2014 edition of Broadway Backwards featured Michael Berresse and Tony Yazbeck stopping the show with the classic "Nowadays/Hot Honey Rag" from Kander and Ebb's long-running Chicago.
Broadway Backwards, the annual Broadway extravaganza celebrating the LGBTQ+ community through the great songs of musical theater, returns to Broadway’s New Amsterdam Theatre on Monday, March 13, 2023. The beloved evening and its star-studded cast will embrace love and self-expression in true Broadway fashion.

Broadway Backwards, the only annual Broadway event uniquely created for the gay and lesbian community, our friends and families, supports Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS and The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center of New York. Each year, the show features a star-studded cast and live orchestra performing the great songs of musical theatre with a twist: women sing songs originally written for men and men sing songs written for women.
Broadway Backwards creator Robert Bartley wrote and directed this year’s show. Mary-Mitchell Campbell served as music supervisor with Tim Rosser as music director. The creative team included additional choreography by Bartley, Amy Jones, Melissa Rae Mahon and Reed Kelly, lighting designer Philip S. Rosenberg, costume designer Philip Heckman and sound designer Pitsch Karrer. The production stage manager was Peter Lawrence.

There’s a video of this done by 2 amateurs, probably in a high school talent show. It is so unpolished and one guy is adorable it just brings you smiles and joy.

I have supported Broadway Cares/Equity Fights Aids in my own small way, since the formation of the organization. I still have a beautiful glass ornament with the red ribbon in it that I bought years ago.
It makes me wish I had been there to see it in person. It also makes me wish I were a Broadway actor so that I could learn that choreography and perform that number on a stage in front of an audience.

There are such things as "Christmas Miracles" !! If one can learn Bob Fosse choreography, do it! I wish I had been there too. If you are still in NYC, see it all, if you can afford it. Broadway, so many dreams. So much talent! Ethel Merman, Mary Martin, Hal Lindon (just popped in my brain) ALL walked ALL of those boards!

Two of Broadway's greatest and finest. Berresse I remember seeing in Damn Yankees some years ago,Chicago and Kiss Me Kate and always standing out like the star he is and Yazbeck is simply sublime in every department. See him in On The Town where he dazzles with his singing and dancing.
Gregg Baxter I saw Yazbeck in December in On The Town. His singing was as amazing as his dancing; truly a beautiful voice. Love this duet, they don't push the Fosse style and are so relaxed and elegant.

Best broadway video I've ever seen! I love both of these guys, great singers and great dancers. They don't miss a beat at all throughout the song or dance. Great job!! I think Mike noticed the top of his bowler hat was smushed down but didn't care to fix it. Other than that, great video.
