Literal same and Imma say it…Corbin has thrice the talent level that Zac does. I luckily saw him in In the Heights back when and I don’t regret it one iota. Best casting decision that show ever made when it was still on Broadway outside of Lin himself. Equally made me laugh as well as cry. Never understood why Zac got all the attention when this chocolatey hunk with true triple threat skills exists.
Same I was crazy about him when he was younger in "flight 29 down" way before highschool musical. He was what brought me to HSM in the first place lol. No offense to zac
The arched back with arms behind, one leg elevated and now put it into motion. As simple as it may look, that is an incredibly difficult move. Phenomenal!!
The balance and core strength required for that dance were ever so much more obvious with Corbin than Liza. Just - DAMN! Liza made it look easy, but somehow this struck me more how difficult it would be, and how he made it work and again - look easy. Fosse was a mad genius with a serious sadistic streak.
Watched a doco, the other day, on the history of "Cabaret" which examined the evolution of Isherwood's "The Berlin Tales" to "I am a Camera" to the stage productions of "Cabaret" to the movie. Apparently, when filming this dance routine, for the movie, eventually they had to nail the chairs to the floor for most of the shots as Liza and the dancers could not maintain the balance required on unsecured chairs. Highlights the brilliance, and skill, of Corbin Bleu and the ensemble in this production! th-cam.com/video/8xrGp3tzKgs/w-d-xo.html
Yes, I saw Cabaret on Broadway decades ago,, in NYC. Raul Esparza, had the lead, he was amazing. I can definitely see Corbin Bleu in the lead. He is definitely an underestimated performer in my opinion. I've always thought he would be a big broadway star, or would be a good dramatic actor as he matured. I thought I would see more of him, as far as television, movies, and Broadway goes.
Ryan Evans is somewhere in another life cheering this man on. Real talk tho, this was way good. Like Corbin is so legit. He gets right into character, not compromising any of the feminine energy of Liza.
The lighting in person was perfection, as were the easily visible dancers - who absolutely KILLED this number along with Corbin Bleu. The costumes were equally wonderful, turning sock garters into a sexy highlight. Unfortunately the dancers are very dark on video because it was lit for the live space. I'm super critical of Fosse numbers because I love them so much, and these guys were seriously perfect! I was blown away.
I am so glad you said some thing about the lighting. I thought about those dancers in the background who were rehearsing and rehearsing only to be totally in the dark. They look like they were really tremendous but it was really hard to tell.
Omg thank you for this comment! I was getting slightly irritated with the lighting (and camera work tbh) because the background dancers are such a critical part of this piece. I’m very glad to hear that it didn’t seem so poorly lit in person. And also that the costuming was good in person! The camerawork doesn’t really capture that. In fact, since the costumes as they are captured on camera look rather underwhelming, I was thinking that this comes off as an oddly somewhat more conservative rendition than other versions with bare legs that are shown off by the leggy choreography.
@@jk3253 And "I" was thinking that Bob Fossey must be rolling in his grave knowing his ground braking choreography has been practically erased in this production. (may he RIP).
@@jk3253 The way most of the dancers were fully dressed made the bare legs look even more obscene than if everyone was scantily clad, which I thought worked really well with male dancers
What a revelation! He did this with PERFECTION, so straightforward without a hint of camp. His movements are so feline! I also love the original Sally Bowles English accent. His singing voice is amazing too. I want to see him as the Phantom!
Corbin does it again...this is another one of his amazing performances...perhaps it's his best...it should be seen on Broadway...also would have liiked to have seen his fabulous dancers in a better lighting..
lighting for both the in-house audience and for video is always tough... more so when its a one-off performance... quite frankly its amazing what we get to see from this.
Yes! I saw him as Bert in Mary Poppins at The Muny a few years ago and he was amazing then. I had no idea what he could do and he continues to impress.
I'm out of breath just watching this. Corbin Bleu is a treasure and mind-blowingly talented. The breath control, not to mention core strength and musicality...simply perfection! Bravo sir!
I watched this man play Don Lockwood in Singin in the Rain in St Louis a few summers ago. I have yet to see a better performance. He just puts so much energy and love into what he does and it's palpable
Holy shit he’s amazing 😮😆 how does everyone doing this number make the chair balancing look so effortless?!? Incredible. Also I always see the performers do the same choreography, so is that like set in the script or something?
I saw a revival of Cabaret a few years ago that had different choreography and costumes - it was more like the 90s revival of the show (my guess being that Liza Minelli and Joel Grey did such an iconic job that everyone knew it couldn't be replicated so instead they decided to change things up especially the portrayal of the MC re Alan Cumming) so it isn't exactly set in the script (or at least not in stone). I guess they picked this one because it's iconically Liza Minelli so then it'd be more deliberately gender-flipped by having Corbin Bleu do her moves.
I remember watching this man as a kid in High school musical, seeing him now at this level is just so amazing! Great work Corbin! We love you brother! 🥰
Of course I've always known the name Corbin Bleu but this has made me a FAN of his. He is so extremely talented and I've watched this video repeatedly since I've found it.
that was faaaaaaaaaaaaaannntastic, from the opening flip to pose (no wasted movement!!!), which I replayed 5 times, it was IMPECCABLE! absolutely captured the essence of liza and fosse

He's been in Broadway productions of In the Heights, Kiss Me Kate and Irving Berlin's Holiday Inn. He was also in a production of Godspell but I don't remember if it was on Broadway or not. Oh and a performance of Mamma Mia at the Hollywood Bowl. He's done quite a bit more thespian work than just this song.
An incredible performance!! Very respectful to the original which I love. I will say there is something about the male ensemble singing 3:25 that gives this part of the song some power to it, just so good!
Attention Broadway producers and casting: The world could use 500% more Corbin Bleu.
Idk about the world but after this, I could
Corbin Bleu for every role! We have the technology :p

not only beat by beat. but also inch by inch. even mile by mile

It was very clear from the start especially when his dancing drew away from Gabriel in HSM2 and Zac in 3.

Liza’s chair was nailed down too, they changed the shot for the part when she had to drag it across the floor.
Petition for Corbin Bleu to be apart of the immersive version cast of Caberet when it comes to Broadway.

It's choreography by the late, great Bob Fosse, originally created for the film version of *Cabaret* (1972), as was the song.
