9 DAYS IN NICARAGUA // A Spontaneous Trip & My On The Spot Itinerary

- Come to Nicaragua with me! In this vlog I'm taking you along my very last minute, very spontaneous trip to Nicaragua. I'll be showing you where I went, what I did and how I navigated my day by day itinerary!
If you said the word 'Nicaragua' to me a few months ago, I wouldn't have known what you were talking about. I had never heard of this little country in Central America and honestly, I wouldn't have known if it was even safe to visit! A good friend of mine booked a trip there at the same time I had a trip through the US planned, so I didn't think it was possible to join her! As soon as she arrived I was instantly in awe of the experiences she was having and felt such a strong desire to be in a place like that. At this point, Tristan and I were nearing the end of our US road trip so out of curiosity I looked up flights... A few days later Tristan dropped me at Seattle airport, he drove 10 hours home and I flew to Central America. I had one night of accomodation booked and no plan from there. My friends were still in Nicaragua so my plan was to meet up with them eventually but I also wanted to do part of it solo and not miss anything just to catch up! So thats what I did...
I landed in Managua airport and got a taxi to Grenada. I stayed at Hostel Oasis and instantly made friends at the free happy hour. I spent the next day on a trip to Apoyo Lagoon Natural Reserve and Masaya Volcano. I extended my stay at Oasis and spent a second night there so I could explore Grenada the next day. My friend @EmmaNicole and I spent the morning together in Grenada before I said goodbye and made my way to San Juan Del Sur.
I spent a few night in San Juan Del Sur with my friends from Banff! We explored the area, went out to Playa Maderas and indulged in Sunday Funday! A highlight here was watching the sunset from the infinity pool at Hush hostel!
I then left my friends and travelled to Ometepe to see this iconic area. Ometepe is an island in Lake Nicaragua which is made up of twin volcanoes. Ometepe was a highlight of the trip for me and somewhere I wish I had spent more time. I stayed on the port side of Moyogalpa and rented a scooter to get around on. While there I visited Playa Mangos where we ate fresh mangos along the beach and did a wildlife kayaking tour. I also visited El Pital Chocolate Paradise where I got an Iced Cacao and chocolate cheesecake. I then stopped at Ojo De Agua, a natural swimming hole which lovely , clear water before ending the day at Punta Jesús María for sunset.
The final stop of the trip was Popoyo. This was a tiny, beachfront location with very little to do except surf and relax. It was a lovely way to end the trip but not somewhere I would go out of my way to revisit. This trip was full of surprises and amazing experiences and one of the best decisions I have made!

The cheapest countries in Central America. Besides it's the safest countries too. You go to costa Rica and there is a lot crime, drug trafficking, cartels drugs from Colombia, Mexico, and hit man. Honduras So Salvador and Guatemala same thing. Viva Nicaragua.. The land of lakes and volcanoes 😊

My parents are from suburbs of Chicago and they are retiring in Nicaragua before more people find out about it and increase prices like Mexico and Costa Rica. I too am looking at houses or to build in Nicaragua by the ocean. And now that the pacific and Caribbean are connected by new massive highways I am looking at buying land on the Caribbean side as well before investors get there.

Beautiful video. I was born in Nicaragua and migrated to the USA as a 12 year old due to my parents passing away. I only got back once in 2012, I am now 66 & would like to retire there but due to my health I see it not happening 😢. Thanks so much to you & many other TH-camrs, I can enjoy seeing my country.

My advice is to buy into a legal established development. Why take a chance?. The HOA covers water, private developed beach park. Flush toilets, shower, bbq , covered elevated tables. A great place to bbq at sunset. Guard at gate on chocolata road entrence. My lot is 5 min from the entrance and the same to the beach in the other direction, in canopy of large trees.

We are planning a trip to Nicaragua in November. I was looking at excursions on Expedia and they seem really expensive. Is it cheaper to organize when you are there rather than in advance?

I personally found it to be super cheap and my most expensive tour was around $25USD. I have a full Nicaragua cost breakdown video which may be helpful as well, but i did definitely find booking there was cheap, i didnt look online first though either!

I cannot provide advice on that, you will need to do your own research based on your own comfort levels! I personally found it safe, but I cannot speak generally as that was my opinion and safety is very subjective. All the best :)
NICARAGUA is very safe. One of the safest Country in Latin América.

Is Nicargua safe ?
It's safer than Chicago, or any democratic run city and state. Yes it's pretty safe, not much violent crime mainly petty stuff. Use your head you'll be fine. Don't leave your wallet or phone on the bar whilst pissing, don't flash cash around its allcommen.sense stuff is all. We spent a week over Christmas 2022 it's fantastic. We ate moving there in 5 years
I don't think you can classify anywhere as exclusively safe or not safe and dont think that's for me to judge. I will say that in my experience, I felt fairly safe most of the time. I travelled as a solo female and didn't have any issues. Like travelling anywhere you need to be smart and diligent in certain situations but I loved Nicaragua and for the most part, everyone I met was lovely.

hello! I have answered this question a few times in these comments if you want to take a look. In short - I found it safe and loved it - but I don't think it's my place to label any country in a specific way because all I have to go off is my 10-day experience and a lot of other factors go into what will make someone think a place is safe or not.

Oh My GOD, Nicaragua es very safe. In fact is one the safest Country in Latin America. Safer than USA and Canada.

For people who dont know the Nicaragua History maybe dont know Nicaragua used to be the richest countries in Central America region. This was way back when Somoza was on power.😊
