I was about five when I saw the first Gremlins movie for the first time and I loved it. There was always an element of comedy, yet I was scared of the Gremlins. I haven't seen that movie in a decade, at least.
Am I the only person who finds this whole auction thing to be a bad idea? Because if you sell them off to random people, these genuine props are going to be lost over the sands of time. I'd say that instead of holding auctions, we should instead put them in museums or safe storages they'll kept forever instead of spreading them around which they'll end up forgotten.... Oh well, I guess it only get's to show that most people don't give two shits about history and preservation which is why they'll end up repeating things like the Alexandra, Mesoamerican Library burnings and such. I just hate seeing history being destroyed and lost forever....
These items go for loads of money. So it’s not like any random fan can buy it. If your willing to drop thousands and thousands on just one of these items, then they’ll probably be well looked after. Nobody is going to spend that much then just throw it in an attic.

Rick Baker is a true legend. I love that he cares enough about his employees that he remembers who sculpted what. Wish I had the dough to by anything from that auction
I love how he acknowledges his collaborators and their respective work and input, so humble, never wanting to hog all the credit or seem cocky. The industry needs more men like Rick Baker.
Every time I see something involving Rick Baker I just gain more and more respect for the man. Not only is he an absolute genius who never seems to stop innovating, but by all accounts he's just a really warm, great guy. I'm sure that auction is bittersweet for him, but it's awesome that those iconic props will now be in the hands of diehard fans and collectors.
Rick's shop's work is what got me started on the path to Special Effects artistry. I would love one of those auction catalogs guys. Can't wait to see more coverage of the materials!
Rick's work is awesome, and of all the projects he has worked on from "It's Alive" to "Thriller", "M.I.B" and "Maleficent" and all those many many awesome projects between them, you featured my favourites - "Gremlins" Thanks for this brief look.
Loved the cocoon gremlin, it's great that these exist as physical artefacts and not just CG images. I hope that puppets and animatronics continue to be made

I loved the Gremlin puppets in both movies! The melting ones were definitely a joy to watch and I never even thought of how hard it must have been to make them. What a treat, need to rewatch soon.

I had the privilege of meeting Rick back in October. He was an amazing guy who was incredibly nice and humble to a stammering, star struck fan like myself. It really made an impression on me.
I remember watching Gremlins 2 and not giving a single thought to the multiple versions of each character that needed to be created. Of course... why don't we just have one version and melt it or blow it up or... D'oh! Incredible focus of talents to make the magic happen. Thank god for that "for lease" sign! Would love to get one of those catalogs! A great documentation of cinematic history.
I remember the film with a bit of love and regret. Love because it brought back to life the fun and amazing creatures that the first film had and regret due to time I had to realize that this was the last time I would see Gizmo in a new film. I loved Gremlins as a teen and was so happy that they made a sequel. I have watched the films many times on DVD as well as seeing them in the theatre when they came out. Thanks for showing this video on Tested always a fan of Rick Baker. :))
This is pretty cool. Rick Baker is an unbelievable talent. CGI has it's place but movie effects are so much better when they're organic.

Gremlins have become such a part of nostalgic pop culture, it's wonderful to see the actual props are still around.
A future biography of Adam Savage will detail how walked away from this auction completely broke.

The amount of detail in the paint and the sculptures overall is ridiculous. That's professionalism at its finest.
Wow. The colors on the creatures are surprisingly vivid, but understandably as they need to be captured by the camera as well.

They're so tiny in "person"! I'm amazed, I loved these films so much, I even went around with a Gizmo plush when I was a very young child. :)
I grew up with the gremlins and still to this day gizmo is still my favourite, brings back so many good memories.
