Love Milwaukee and Dewalt. I run both platforms. But I wish they went with the Starlock mounting system that Bosch and Fein has for they’re oscillating tools. It’s even faster, just push and it clicks in, and it’s solid.

I prefer this over the star lock. Replacement blades are significantly cheaper and I don’t mind an extra 5 seconds to change a blade. If you buy high quality blades you don’t have to change them often.

Fein is fantastic. But the "new" Festool Vecturo oscillating tool (made by Fein) has some proprietary features, such as the plunge attachment for perfectly straight/square/plumb cuts. Only drawback is that Festool doesn't come with the delta sander attachment, although the Fein may fit - I plan to check into that.

    • @sizif717
      @sizif717 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Mark McNamara I read somewhere that the Festool Vecturos are actually rebranded and redesigned Fein models. Not just made by Fein, but actually their models if different skin. Make sense if you look at the construction and the tech specs. Just like Mufell colours in red, put their name on and sells Metabo drill drivers for three times the price.

Tried this tool and returned in less than a week.
    * So out of a fully charged 2.0 CP battery got less than 14 minutes of runtime.
*A pain to remove the battery to the point that there is a risk of breaking the battery clips. I can see you had the same issue.16:20
*Looks more like a M18 tool, older M12 was better ergonomically. Put in the large XC battery and it get heavier.
*The area under the lever is easily exposed to dust and fine particles. Check inside you will see a part lubricated for smoothing out the release of blades.
I will wait to try out the M18, but i see it is a beast in terms of size and big battery.

Got one, it's a great tool, there is a tool on the market which is a really crappy Macallister tool sold in uk which has the same lever as the milwaukee but the centre pin is a 1/4 turn magnetic pin, so lever back to relieve pressure 1/4 turn pin lifts out, change blade, pin back in, magnetised so just pulls itself in, 1/4 turn to tighten, press lever back down to finally tighten, job done. thing is it is a mains operated tool and really noisy and doesnt have the same cutting angle. maybe they have a patent on it thats why milwukee can't use this method as it quicker as you dont have to unscrew the pin.

I live on the West Coast where everyone has PVC sprinkler systems and I've replaced many pipes that you have to dig out all the dirt or sand around them then cut the pipe and splice in a new section.
You cant typically use a recip because you can't get the blade in all the way up to the shoe and even if you could most of the time the long stoke on recip blades will grab the pipe and start thrusting it back and forth a few inches in each direction so you have to either use a pvc pipe cutter or a rope hand saw (which can be exhausting AF)
So yes, a multi tool is actual ideal for plunge cutting in ground PVC during repairs 👍🏻

Great review. I bought an M18 OMT a month ago before seeing your review that compared the spin-up time to the DeWalt. It seems that this brushless M12 solved that problem. I like they have finally made the tool “tool less” for blade change, but I still don’t care for the system personally. Dewalt, (I know paying big price for a big name) has made blade changing so fast with the “squeeze” attach/detach is so quick it’s crazy. And they accept almost any blade.. I can’t recall the brand now but they didn’t fit the tool because of the design but with a couple of snips on the back of the blade it fit the dewalt tool perfectly well. I try not to be biased on a tool platform unless I have the chance to try several, but in this given case my vote goes to dewalt, and I have a handful of their 20v tools anyway that I use almost daily so it makes sense to stay within that platform.

Yeah but there are a lot of tools that just aren't worth the cost. For instance a copper cutting tool. Unless you cut copper all day long you don't need a powered one and can save your 150$for retirement or something

Dewalt's mul.titool is definitely a faster blade change. The Bosch multitool looks like it is as well. But the M18 FUEL (the one I have) is the better performing multitool (though I've never personally compared with Bosch, I DID compare with my buddy's Fein - which was the best multitool among all of my friends. Key word: WAS). This M18 FUEL is amazing. I also have the base M18 multitool and I hated using it.

One of my favorite tools is my DeWalt oscillating tool. But I too have been buying up a lot of the 12v milwaukee. But DeWalt's blade change is superior in my opinion. Just squeeze the lever and change the blade. Never had one slip or anything.

I'm a milwaukee guy for sure and have the previous gen of this tool with the stupid hex key blade change however the dewalt version thats been out for years is way better for blade change only pull a lever change the blade simple milwaukee gets that integrated in this tool and there will be no competition thanks for the vid Vince

IMO OMTs are near worthless for hard materials. You burned through that $17 blade on just 5 screws. Fine for wood, but slow as molasses, and fine for brass/copper, but they really shine with soft things like plastics and drywall.

This thing is a freakin beast!!!!!!
I just tried mine today for the first time and IT ATE THROUGH A COUPLE 2X4S BEFORE I COULD EVEN BLINK!!!
I dont know what they did but this thing is the best one I have ever used. I was so shocked at how much power this has.
The variable 12 speed absolutely kicks DeWalts 3 Speed Switch.
So blade change may not be as quick as the DeWalt style but think about it, that style takes up more space and often gets in the way.
Love your videos Vince, very informative. Thank you!

My dad has Dewalt and I have Milwaukee so we don’t accidentally take tools from each other and don’t give them back. I love both but I like the blade release of the Dewalt over the Milwaukee. It’s probably like a patent issue or something

Dewalt has a better blade change mechanism. By far. It could be slightly modified to be more comfortable but it’s super fast.
I feel like Milwaukee definitely has the ability to eliminate the need to unscrew that clamp for the blade. I’m not sure why they have it. I’ll probably pick one up at some point down the road as a cordless option to compliment my corded Dewalt.

An Allen wrench or unscrew/screw a bolt to change a blade or a blade position? No, thank you. In my line of work I need to change the blade or its angle frequently so after trying half a dozen of different oscillating tools I settled on a Bosch with Starlock: plenty of power, almost no vibration in the hand and a blade can be swapped in literally a couple of seconds.
