If there’s a seal on the back of the trailer it’s probably loaded. Also you can lower the landing gears on your trailer. This will add stability and reduce The rocking motion.
A helpful rule of thumb: during heavy winds point your truck into it, as straight as possible, reduces the risk of laying over, so long as space allows, this is also a good rule to practice with RVs and busses
Alex, if you are stopped durring bad weather get out of your truck and go inside a building. Go to a restroom and wait out a tornado. Do.not depend on trucks around u 4 cover.
I remember being in the truck with my dad when it started storming really bad. I wind was so insane that we were going 5mph down the road and we see tree limbs passing us. All over the radio they were talking about a tornado warning and had confirmed a touchdown. The rain was so bad we could barely see past the bug shield on the hood. When I seen people start pulling over I asked my dad if we were going to stop. He pointed to a line of trees beside the highway and sai the tornado is on the other side of those treesand he will pull over in a second. Luckily he new the area we were in and waited until there was a big hill that we went to the bottom of before he stopped. We sat there and watch the funnel cloud go right over us. Pretty scary but I gotta say it was pretty cool too.
An MT box van rolling sounds like a kettle drum. I can always tell, by the way it sound. rolling down the road. Same with rail cars; listen next time you stop 4 a train.
I heard about those storms up that way, glad that you are safe. I got caught in those Texas/Louisiana ice storms that hit in February this year, that was pretty bad.
I’m not a trucker just a bartender but, your videos are so much fun to watch and so we’ll put together! I appreciate you opening up this point of view into the world of supplying the masses knows as trucking. Thank you for all you do alex!

I use a Gorge Forman. Watch your wattage on these appliances. Most fleet company trucks only have 1000W on their power inverters. I also have a small rice cooker, I use it as a small crock pot.
@@ALEXTHETRUCKINGGUY hi Alex anyway to install portable solar panels on your truck? Maybe enough power to use laptop or portable fan or heater while resting without running the truck?
This guys has a freakin adventure for every video. Love it. Tornados are freakin scary especially in a truck. The worst thing is waking up to a rocking truck at midnight.
I have probably liked every single video and clip. Cant get enough of alex the trucker! Thanks for sharing this content and tbh I've never driven a semi or anything bigger than a 2500 or a 20' box truck (still not comparable to a semi in my book) but i will tell you have more confidence in your maneuvers and make those back up moves you always dread. Alex, I'm so glad you weren't hurt , I'd have pissed myself. You've earned my respect for having balls to stay with your truck. Stop playing in tornadoes
If there's a lot of wind, try to find a spot that points directly into the wind, that way you cant flip over because you get wind from the front, the same effect as driving forward.
Man your videos are so cathartic - but that was genuinely wild to hear your story - and the aftermath.. Just drove a long 12 hr trip today through some nasty weather in Utah - and was able to ‘use’ a fellow trucker of yours to use their large red tail lights to see the ground ahead.
I could literally watch a whole 10hr video showing your day start to finish, super fascinating videos and I love your commentary. Thanks a bunch and I hope nothing but good weather follows you across the continent.
I'd get one with AT&T and Verizon. So you have two different ones to go off of because one may get better connection in one area than the other. A signal booster is good to have too.
He shouldn’t have been. Out west and in the mid west those tornado sirens are no joke. If they were going off, he should have gotten out of the truck and went inside the building, into it’s inner most room and put as many solid stationary walls between him and the storm, more importantly the debris that may have been flying around in it.
If tornado sirens are going off, you need to get out of the truck and go into the truck stop. put as many walls between you and any debris that may be flying around in those 100+mph winds. In the truck you’re surrounded by thin metal, plastic and fiberglass. Equipment can be replaced, your life can not be. Glad you’re all right. Stay safe.
So you were closer than I was at the time of those storms. The rule of thumb i keep hearing about windstorms and tornados is to not stay in your truck. (Idk if there's other truckers in the comments saying that too, but yeah) like, once you hear the sirens and you're at a truck stop go inside and follow the employees to their tornado shelter area. Glad you made it ok!
I’m sorry you had to go through that it us a reality for truckers. Sometimes you’re driving through it and don’t get the alert. I’m glad you’re safe and alright brother
I’ve officially applied for paid CDL with a few companies. Looking forward to changing careers. Trucking has always intrigued me, but your videos definitely pushed me to make the leap. Very informative.
Crazy tornado! Smart thinking in positioning your truck. You could tell if the van trailer was loaded by checking for a seal. Couldn't tell how heavy tho. Your channel is awesome! 😉
High wind storms are probably the scariest for truck drivers, that and ice storms. Both of which are best to park in. When in doubt slow down or pull over.
Oh bro so I just got my CDL class B and that’s pretty cool it’s fun i’m going to school for my class a license and watching your videos is getting me really hyped. Thanks for giving me a heads up on what I’m looking forward to keep on Truckin brother be safe out there!!!
During a storm like that I would put my trailer in a open spot in a parking lot and park my truck with the front pointing head on with the wind... and I would atleast park 30 ft away from my trailer... if I could I would get a hotel...
I usually figure my trip by 55 mph average speed, so I factor in slowdowns. 10 hours by 55 mph = 550 miles per day. Also, I use my George Foreman Grill, it's great. I got it for $4 from a Goodwill. I use that in combination with my microwave, and my 2 burner hotplate, to make my meals. Usually some type of grilled meat with some frozen veggies microwaved. Or I microwave leftovers from home. I use my 2 burner hotplate to make my spaghetti!! I have found though, that it's faster to cook pasta in the microwave, using a microwave pot.
I was driving around Oakley, KS when the winds hit. I70 was closed so I took Hwy 83 to get to my next stop. Wind was so crazy, i pulled over. Eventually i started driving again. 3 semis got turned over, got stuck in that. Made my way to KS-4 and got caught in another semi roll over. Worst day of my life, just sitting there waiting for wreckers to move the semis out of the way.
Can you look at their suspension to tell if they are empty? You can look at how compressed the springs are on rail cars to see if they are loaded or not.
Hey I got a tip for ya If you know a hurricane is coming and afraid you're trailer might flip try lower you landing gears for stability I'm not saying uncouple it just lower the landing for extra stability and thanks for your videos I learn alot and I'm getting into trucking next thanks

Re the hotspot: i’m immensely glad that I have the capability of turning my smart phone into a Wi-Fi hotspot. It absolutely pays off because all those extra USB things are so damn expensive. Not to mention I have unlimited data (up to like 2 TB) or something like that I could never use that much data in a month.

Look at the space between the trailer and tires. If there's a big gap = empty.
