Chris Fowler is now the lead college football announcer for ESPN, Chris Myers, who reported on the retirement of Mike Schmidt, is now at FOX Sports, and John Saunders is no longer with us, as he passed away in August of 2016.
Sharlene Wells Hawkes the Scholastic Sports America host was a ex Miss America. Worked at Espn 1987 to 2002, 15 years. She also did college football and horse racing at Espn. She became interested in books and book publishing so currently is V.P. at Stony Brook Publishing. It doesn't say on Wikipedia what she was doing between 02 and 2014.
As a kid growing up in Eastern PA (not far from Philly) I vividly remember Mike Schmidt's retirement. This is a great watch with the other highlights from May 29, 1989. Little did we know Pitino and UK would have their own epic moment, for better or worse, in Philly a little less than 3 years later...
I recall this. I was 11 and Schmidt retired. It was later followed by the Pete Rose saga and death of Bart Giamatti the mlb commissioner. Vincent Fay took over. The world series was As and Giants the Bay series and the earthquake in game 1. Kareem Abdul-Jabbar also retired this year in the NBA. Pistons vs Lakers in finals. A year later Bulls beat Lakers to claim first title. Tommy John did end up retiring. All Wikipedia says is Yankees dumped him and career ended. Never made Hall of Fame. Most he got was 31% of votes. Royals' Danny Tartabull ended up on Yankees and was on Seinfeld. George Brett did the Sporting News commercial. I would venture Sporting News also did racing, tennis and golf. Brett left it out.
Entertaining show. Miss the old show. Clean, direct and to the point and well organized.
The new shows are good too. Things evolve .

86-80?! Lol. That’s the score at halftime most NBA games nowadays
