      Is it 1dn per square of 4 or 4dn? I ask because your money reserves started having CRAZY big swings to the negative from month to month the more you built. And knowing that was your map at that stage you were more or less positive every month at that stage... never negative unless you built something big. 🤔🤔🤔🤔

      @@BIGJATPSU 1 per tile placed, so if you place 2 to get a 3x2, it's 2dn a month. Last I played this save was a long time ago, so other Augustus balance changes would change how this city works.

      @@FrakFruk Right now highways are 2x2 but you can build them up to your farms and have normal roads just reach out to touch the farms themselves.

    My dad was the founder of impressions and the creator of Caesar III (David Lester), and I just want to say that I recently began playing the game again because of your content and the whole Augustus mod and remaster, and he is really happy that so many people are still enjoying the game!

    Looks great! I like this new format of videos.
    The highways reminded me of the fact that Caesar 1 had the distinction between roads and highways on the empire map building, though obviously it wasn't all that exciting there.
    It looks like it is a useful and thematic addition to Augustus, I always have that road building part of the intro in mind when building roads. Though it's probably something that would need bigger maps specifically designed with them in mind to truly shine.

      Yeah custom map designs have been changing recently too because of Augustus. The new features allow new kinds of cities, so maps are becoming different.

    Man, if I knew more C, but most importantly, if I had an actual decent time management, I might've contributed to Augustus too.
    I have two things that I would've like to try to implement:
    - the ability for buildings that need workers to be uhm, overemplyed. Well, actually, not overemployed, but the ability to have it expand vertically and allow more people to work there, for more benefits. Of course, it won't work for all buildings. But, say, you have a busy neighborhood and lack space ? Have just one prefecture, but have it 2 or 3 stories high, with 15-25 people working on it, so they can cover a serious area. Have some minimum and maximum number of people. Also, have that if the minimum number of people is not met, the building will decay and collapse after some time. Also, at the minimum number of workers (say, just one worker for a prefecture) it will not spawn a walker, just maintain the building and the records and maybe provide its "service" just in the range of the building, like if a walked spawned in the front of the prefecture and then disappeared.
    - collaborated with the above - make a path editor for buildings, so you can tell exactly where the walkers should go. Or couse with the game having the current default random way, though it would be nice if it could "learn". Also, in order to have this somewhat balanced, make each walker start with some "worker strength" (which can be based on how many workers, say, if only 1/2 of the building workers is met, have this worker strength be at some lower percentage, 50% or such). Each tile walked decreases the strength by a little. Each building "visited" or "taken care of" will also decrease the strength. This will completely disable long routes (I forgot how Zach named them), as when the walked hits 0 strength, he will either return on the same or shortest path, while having no effect, or simply disappear. You could also set if you want a single walker or more (provided you have enough workers). Not sure how easily this would be to implement, but, maan, as a player, I'd love something like this.
    I think that the above would add a layer of workforce management, while also allowing you to tackle the walker system and manually override it where neccessary in a more logical manner. I've never been a fan of road blocks, to me they are very inelegant as a solution.

    Three comments:
    - I actually think there is nobody on the internet who speaks a "cleaner" English than yours, at least from my non-native opinion
    - your videos certainly encouraged developers to put further efforts to add to the already great Caesar III
    - I so much hope they'll develop an Android version :-(

      Thank you! Android version exists already too, there's an Android APK for Augustus. Haven't done it myself but I've seen people use it.

    Oh, this is a treat. Had no idea C3 was getting modded. I played it around release, and a few of the spinoffs/sequels, but then mostly forgot.

      It's come a long way now too. Playing in Augustus is a very different experience to the original game, but even if you want to play vanilla it's best to get Julius, which is original gameplay with some fixes and performance improvements.

    Highways seem to be a great idea. They add an expense though. I've been watching a lot of your play-throughs. I notice that when you place roads for a forced walker set up, you are counting the squares to be sure you got the spacing correct. [If this is something that has been pointed out to you, forgive me but others might have missed it too.] As you lay down roads, there is a number displayed next to the cursor. It tells you how far you are from the point of origin. Turn the corner and a second number shows up to tell you how many squares you are from the original road. Start at a point, pull the road South and the road appears to the left of your line. As long as the number appear equal, you went straight South. If your road says 10 X 10, you have the left half of a large square. Lift your finger of the mouse button, start from the South end and return to the point of origin, you now have a square road that a fountain in its center will cover all housing inside the square. [On desert maps this needs to be an 8 x 8 road square.] I make my return road as long as possible. Then I place a road 2 squares on the South side of this. I run it 6 squares short of the return road. Without picking up the mouse key, I turn the road away from the first road until the second number is 10. Then I take my finger off the mouse key and start my next section of forced walker road in the opposite direction. I take this, usually, back to even with the second road, turn the corner for 10 squares, without needing to count. Repeat until you have all the forward road I need then run the road past the Southern end of the return road, turn right 2 or three squares past it, take the continuous road back to the original start point of the return road. This gives me the giant U-turn needed to keep forced walkers from bunching up. I've left a similar post on a walk-thorough where you were counting. My son pointed out that they were sometimes years old and you were unlikely to see them.
    Also, I once received a Email that told me you liked another comment I had made and come to a site to get a reward. I can't remember what the reward was or the name of the site to go to. Could you explain what that was about. What is the difference between Joining and Subscribing? I enjoy your work but I'm 77 so I don't understand all the different terms you use. Maybe you could create a video for us old fogies like the one for forced walkers.

    It seems to cost 100 denarii whether it ends up placing all 4 new highway tiles per click or just 1 because there's already more highway under the brush. Careful how you're placing it or you can end up paying 4x as much per tile.

    They should call it Via Romana or something more immersive than Highways :D
    But mechanically it's a good idea. I think they could also improve a little bit the tile, or make slight graphical variations of it.
    Yet, I find weird to see pedestrians walk suddenly faster on those roads. Perhaps charriots/trolleys should run faster but not pedestrians. Perhaps roads could sometimes get broken requiring engineering work, meanwhile, these roads could have a slower pace but that could be going one step too far. Let's not turn c3 into a racing game neither.

    How I wish something like this happened with Ceasar IV. The aesthetics of the game could be soooo much improved! So many monuments could be build… why is Ceasar IV so underestimated?

      I think it's because so many people were turned away by the bad tutorial and early missions. The game only gets good towards the end of the first campaign, so most would quit before then thinking it's a terrible game. The textures are actually really easy to mod in Caesar 4. I even made my own plaza texture replacements with bump maps. But there are still barely any texture or graphics mods for the game because there isn't really a surviving community.

      There are AI enhanced ones which are part of my remastering guide. As for brand new animations, I don't think anyone is making something like that. It would be a lot of work to get them looking good.

      It costs 1dn per month for each placement, so even if you overlap the 2x2 tiles so it's 2x3, it will still cost 2dn a month

    I wish classics such as Alpha Centauri or Railroad Tycoon II & III got the same treatment. Unfortunately, the publishers would rather sit on the IPs than release those games to the open source community.

      In this case, the publisher didn't release anything either. Bianca spent 10 years reverse engineering the code and gave that out as open source to make this possible.

      It works with any fully updated version of the game. It just needs the game installed to source the game assets. GoG and Steam both work no problem. If you got an old CD version, make sure the official patches are installed.

    I was looking if they were developing more content for this game officially, but discovered that goddamn activision bought Sierra and that's bad news.

      Activision owns it now, which might mean Microsoft will own it in a year or two. Activision doesn't care much for it though, they allowed a Pharaoh remake to be made but word is Activision is basically hands off. They let another publisher work on it.

    I have version 3.1. but if I copy things from version 3.2. (assents, SDL2.dll, SDL2_mixer.dll and Augustus.exe I can't run the game. I've never had a problem too.

      I just replace the assets folder then run the new exe from a separate folder that I just extract from the 3.2 download. If that's not working, best ask the experts on our discord.

      Yeah, the Augustus exe files are all separate and work by themselves, just make sure you copy over the new assets folder.

      Only in the last few years. Bianca spent 10 years making the engine replacement, after that people started tweaking the code for mods and fixes.

      The original resolutions are small because the game is from 1998. You can get Julius to get the game in high resolution while keeping the gameplay original.

      You can load vanilla saves in Augustus but you can't do it the other way around.

      Art generally is the last step after gameplay and features are set, so that can still change. How highways work could change completely in the coming months.

      Those are part of the unstable build, you need to download that and the separate Assets folder.

      I'm pretty sure you can with Augustus, they have an android APK thing, but haven't tried it myself.

      @@GamerZakh I played Forge of Empire on a $50 Amazon Fire for months before I played it on a PC. I never tried Caesar III on the Fire though.

      You mean you want to play Caesar 3 on mobile? There's already an android APK for that. Haven't done it myself but there is android support.

    Can’t say I’m a fan of the highway. The graphic isn’t attractive. It looks way too wide. How historically accurate is it? It doesn’t make sense that it is not a road for purposes of connecting buildings or walkers.

    how can i get it ? i mean, i have Augustus, but i need to know (if this mode it's avaiable) if there is the "walker path preview" where u can see the range of the max path of the walkers. thanks a lot

      There is now yes! They just recently added that so it's only on the unstable version of Augustus.
