WATER ORB RECIPE:
1 Gram Sodium Alginate into 1 Cup of Drinking Water
5 Grams Calcium Lactate into 4 Cups Water
For the other substances we played around with adding more or less sodium alginate the mixtures.

Actually, that’s an immersion blender. They’re all vertical and only for liquids or liquid results.
A hand blender is the traditional two whisk-like attachments on a horizontal “body.”

What do the bio-water bottles get stored in so they don't get dirty or degrade before being purchased and consumed?
I feel like we'll end up with plastic containers to store the bio-water balls so that people are willing to consume them.

They could keep in in tubs like the vegetables in the grocery store, and similar to produce we weigh them and put in a glass or plastic reusable container.

Also this idea would just be a gimmick if you have to contain something that is suppose to already be contained in something. if you need to contain a container thats suppose to contain its contents then can you really call it one??

It should be the only container, the only wrapper, the only thing between the contents and the outside world because it's meant to decrease waste. If we are gonna wrap or put it in a container then we already have regular bottle water

It's fun but I can't see how it can be commercially viable. You'll still have to package it with something else. I mean how would you keep it clean. And it's serving size is 1 mouthful at a time.
I get that it wouldn't be usable for water but fast food restaurants could definitely use these for servings of ketchup or mayo.

They did say in the video that this particular option is more of a fun experiment than actual solution, just something to do at home for yourself. However, there would be ways to manage. I'm sure that people putting more time and effort into this idea would be able to make them larger servings unlike this home made version. As for keeping it clean, with how quick it is to actually make it, I'm sure restaurants would be able to find ways. Keep them in the back with the food and hand them out order by order (which even with current packets is more sanitary and cost effective), for example. Lets say McDonalds tries this for their ketchup, they just have a tray of them in one of the minifridges they use for quick access and just put it in the bag with the rest of your food (no less sanitary than the fries not being properly covered). Proper restaurants just keep a tray in the fridge and, maybe upon request or just by default, put them on your plate to use as needed. And for drinks, as opposed to condiments, it may not be an option for a store like Walmart, but any restaurant could, again with some more work put in to make larger versions, just keep a tray in the cold storage or fridge and give them over upon order.
No, they don't work well for long term sanitary storage or self serve options, unlike current bottles this specific option wouldn't really work for those Walmart minifridges you just open and grab a bottle from (though with Covid, I'd be surprised if those stuck around anyway). But again, this was more of a fun experiment to show off the concept of alternative plastics, more something to do at home than for a business to use. Some businesses could find ways to make it work, but mostly that's what the other bioplastics are being developed for.
I heard it’s for big events to give out water. For instance, London pride. Currently they give out water in cans, like soda comes in, but this still causes s lot of trash. Would these help that? Or just be a big old water fight?

This is used a lot in cooking actually! Mostly when people want to make a spherical object that needs to be spherical, but a soft liquid on the inside. I’m surprised no one thought about its use outside of cooking, but it’s great!!

Vending machines could be designed to dispense these without the need for cups/containers. Go to a store and refill a reusable tube, or carton with these and then you wouldn't even need to waste paper cups on a water cooler.

In Germany it's usually cardboard too. I've literally never seen a plastic one
In Spain they use plastic ones for water bottles (most people doesnt drink tap water here because of the taste) and for cans, but they use cardboard holders for milk that usually comes in 6x1l tetrabrik
As an Australian it is possible age which will determine if you have seen it or not. It's been years since I've seen it. Cardboard works well however when it gets wet it loses its structural integrity but I would rather save the environment!
in italy beer (3 or more if in cans) and wine (1, 2 or 3) come in cardboard , while i've never seen 6 packs of water bottles in cardboard.

-waterproof
-durable
-light
-easy to manufacture
-easy to clean
-AFFORDABLE AF (most important)
And for this edible "bottle" thing
-easy to make airtight for transport, storage, and hygiene. That's why this edible "bottle" is not yet a thing.
Bcz it doesn't bring profit to big corporations that's why

@@comradeabigor8314 in my country, a lot of single-use plastic producers are small-scale businesses with just around 50 employees. So that's not always applicable. Alternatives to plastic are either too expensive or unreliable
