Hey! Thanks for the review. Just a few questions for you please: - How's the noise? I remember the mavic air 1 was horrible compared to the mavic pro 1... - Do you still have those issues where it asks you to calibrate the drone every time you take it out?
10:38 - 10:59 wow that 4K is jumpy! Look at the mountains behind. Is this frame dropping? Due to slow microSD? or 4K60 only? Or can it be fixed with a slow shutter + ND filter?
I am looking into buying my first drone. I have a channel about Space and Rockets and a few very interesting trips coming up and so the review helped me very much. Thank you for the awesome job and your color grading is hands down absolutely awesome. How do you achieve such great colors in your camera footage?
AWESOME VIDEO! Subscribed for sure! As well as sent to my buddies... So, I just purchased the Mavic 2 Zoom + Fly More Kit two weeks ago. I can still return it. I am curious if I should return the Zoom and purchase this Air 2? I am a backpacker / hiker and portability is huge for me... However, it's not like the Zoom is THAT big anyway. I am curious if you believe the air 2 is an UPGRADE to the Zoom even though its CHEAPER?! Would love your take.
Shane Moffo Well what did you end up doing? I had a chance on getting a used zoom with the fly more package, for the same price of the basic kit MA2. Ended up going with the MA2 due to the new hardware. Should be here in 2 days!
I've seen many reviews of this drone on YT. But this one is the best. It really shows what it can do in the field, instead of just sitting behind a desk and doing a talking head while talking boring specs. Nice!
You need to upload in 60 fps, the video looks choppy when you have a fast-moving drone/target. 24 fps is more cinematic but only for slower shots. 5:39 may have been taken in 4K 60fps but you uploaded it in 30 or 24.
Even as a hobbyist flyer I don’t see getting rid of my Mavic Pro, but the Air 2 adds a lot of fun and at $799 it’s a game- changer. I can see using Rocket a lot, especially in the mountains. Thanks for pumping me up, brother. An old guy in Colorado.
Is this all new footage from the Mavic Air 2? Couldn't help but notice the Mavic 2 Pro cameo at 11:07 (side sensors & huge hasselblad silver gimble)..... so hence the question.
Understand - as of 28 Apr 2020 - the ‘other flying things’ detect and warning feature has not made it into the Air 2 shipping into Europe. Apparently it will be added, later. The virus outbreak has affected production. (I saw this this morning on a BBC UK tech article) I’m interested to buy myself a drone, so found this review very informative. Loved the analysis, and particularly the comparison with upper and lower spec drones in the range from Mavic. ‘ND filter’ term might puzzle new viewers not into photography. It is a Neutral Density filter. Looks grey. Cuts the light entering the camera lens by a fixed amount, and you can buy different ND filters, cutting the light by different amounts. So what? You would use one in very bright conditions - particularly as this review mentions the lens aperture (size of the hole in the lens on the drone’s camera) cannot be changed for this drone model. This will increase the camera’s exposure time, which can improve how a movement in a scene looks. Right ... off to look at the Mavic Mini and Pro reviews ...

Hi! Thank you for this great first test! Actually, I have one important concern about this new Mavic Air 2, which is about Active Track function. I got the Mavic Air 1 and I have tried a few times to use it while skiing and use the Active Track function. The problem is that the active track does not want to follow you down, and the drone is staying at the same altitude, which is as the end completely useless. So my question is, will this new drone and this new Active Track 3.0 be improved to finally make the job while using it with Active Track on an activity where the subject is changing its level up or down ?! I have not seen that in your video, since you were using the active track but moving on a flat ground. This big improvment would actually surely makes me go for this new drone! Thanks for your reply!
While the Active track is not near perfect yet, it is much better that the Air 1. It locks onto your subject much better and it keeps it in shot much better, and with APAS 3.0 it avoids obstacles much better. Still, I would not completely rely on the Active Track and sensors
Saying "48MP is amazing, way better than any other drones in the DJI lineup" without any discussion of sensor size or image quality seems pretty deliberately deceitful or ignorant coming from a photography company... Other reviews of the actual image quality have said the 48MP mode is JPG only and the stills are way softer than 12MP DNG.
No word on obstacle avoidance sensors, if any. Also, you've made it sound like the absence of aperture priority is a some kind of limitation of the app. AP depends on the camera lens design.
I've been flying a holy stone hs700 for a couple years now, modified with a GoPro in the works. But there's one thing I've really missed, a gimbal. Also apparently the mavic air 2 has some kickass obstacle detection and avoidance system. Being in an area that's congested with trees, I have a feeling something like that will worth the money. and the $933 fly more package actually makes it well worth it seeing the price of the individual batteries. The price seems right, I'm strongly thinking about it. This video certainly will help in my purchasing decision!
I own a Mavic Air and a Mavic 2 Pro and I really like them both (The Mavic Air is a bit too loud but...). Both will work with my Crystal Sky monitor. Will the Mavic Air 2 work with it as well?
Looks like an epic upgrade from the Mavic Air - which I've been using on the road since it launched! Stoked to get some epic slow mo aerial footage on my adventures 🎉
It has 4k 60 fps and 34 mins flying time, which are even better than the much more expensive and bigger Mavic 2 Pro. From my point of view, this is the best DJI drone for average people like me.
can you tell me if the drone during the active track mode follow you even if you're going downhill for example when you're skiing? the last mavic had the problem that the drone was staying all the time at the initial altitude and didn't follow the subject that was decreasing his elevation, the drone followed the subject only in the case he increase the elevation. Does mavic air 2 overcome this problem?? Thank a lot
Great review - the auto exposure really bugged me tho... Things you left out that are important: 1 - obstacle avoidance 2 - Adjusting exposure. Is manual available? Are there adjustment wheels? 3 - Can you adjust yaw speed for more cinematic moves?

I’ve had a mavic air 1 for about a year now, and while I am a little jealous, the prop noise can be fixed with some replacements, and battery life has never really been an issue. The one thing that does bug me however is the range. I’ve gotten my mavic air to 4 miles but it was rough.

I'm in love! I've been thinking about buying the Mini as my first drone since it came out but I do think the extra cost for this one is totally worth it. The footage at 5:39 looked a bit choppy, is that because of high shutter rate to keep exposure down or something else?
The Mavic Mini actually is much better than when it first came out. It now has manual aperture controls and white balance with the last two updates and throw an ND filter on there and it looks pretty damn good. I use the hell out of mine. I use it for indoor overhead shots because of it size.
@@BrandonTalbot Yeah I saw that like 30 minutes after writing my comment! Thats an awesome addition to the value of the Mini. Somewhat strange this (Air 2) doesn't have manual shutter but if the Mini got it, maybe this will one day too :)
It depends on what you're trying to get out of it. The Air 2 shoots 48-megapixel photos and shoots 4k60 which the Mavic Pro doesn't have, nor does the Mavic 2 Pro.
I have a question about your video editing. How did you add the segment names to the timer bar down the bottom of the video? It was so cool to hover over sections and see "Introduction", "Mavic Air 2 Features Overview", etc
Great review, thank you! Question here - is it me or does the video skip instead of playing smoothly? I mean it plays smoothly but skips at the same time, hard to explain. It 'skips smoothly'. I can see that only in drone shots in your video. With camera shots, this is not present.
Probably just wishful thinking, but since the camera on the Mavic Air 2 has a similar form factor to the Pro 2 is there any chance you will be releasing an anamorphic lens for it?
The footage from the drone looks like it's juddering. Is that normal? @10:35 the hills in the background are glitching as the image pans. Doesn't look great. Am hoping this is something that's happened in post?
@@JonSmith-fc2mm I still think he used High shutter speed like 1/8000 or so, when he should have 1/48 ( in conjuction with 24 fps video ) to make the video "smoother" (Hight shutter speed = less blur, lower shutter speed = more blur) But i could be wrong :)
I think it's actually from all the different framerates mixed within the video. It's typically referred to as "Fame Interpolation" and this is something that has to be addressed in whatever software you're using for editing the video and is something that seems to be often missed. For example if you take a 24FPS video and turn it into a 30FPS video, without proper frame interpolation it's going to be choppy because now the frames don't match up
Looks like time to upgrade from my original Mavic Pro! Could not justify the Mavic 2 Pro upgrade. Question. With the lighter drones, are they more affected by wind?
Tell me more about the IQ please. It is really 48mpx? Phone Makers have been tricking us with this for years now. Just look at the new samsung. The Mavic Air 2 "only" has an half inch sensor, so it feels just like another one of those marketing moves. I live from aerial photography and I am really looking for IQ. How much better, if at all is the IQ compared to the Pro 2? Big help. thanks!
Maybe a very noobie question but what changes when you add an ND filter? If you just want to make the image darker can you not just turn down the EV or do it in post edit or is it because the shutter is open longer so smooths out the filming or something?
I'm upgrading to the Air 2 from the original Phantom 1 with the DSLRPro upgrades (Futaba, ZenMuse, etc) amazing to see where things have come in the 7 years I've had the original P1.
Should I sell my mavic air and upgrade to this or is it not that big of an upgrade? I like the idea of having occusync!!!! with added bonus of 48mp photos + 8k hyper lapse. Just wondering upon your opinion

I have a question about your video editing. How did you add the segment names to the timer bar down the bottom of the video? It was so cool to hover over sections and see "Introduction", "Mavic Air 2 Features Overview", etc
4K 60 footage looks choppy as heck. Why is that?
Dropped frames? Hmmmm, he probably had a slow microSD card?
Great review, thank you! Question here - is it me or does the video skip instead of playing smoothly? I mean it plays smoothly but skips at the same time, hard to explain. It 'skips smoothly'. I can see that only in drone shots in your video. With camera shots, this is not present.
When i can buy it?!
right from our website :) momnt.io/2VFgAJw
Did you order one already?
Probably just wishful thinking, but since the camera on the Mavic Air 2 has a similar form factor to the Pro 2 is there any chance you will be releasing an anamorphic lens for it?
Filters for now - still testing anamorphic.
9:20 lost focus tracking =)
Hey Moment, how did you make sections in your video??
Great hands on. Shots look awesome
Thanks Lex!
@@moment Whats the video location ?
The footage from the drone looks like it's juddering. Is that normal? @10:35 the hills in the background are glitching as the image pans. Doesn't look great. Am hoping this is something that's happened in post?
I've always wanted a dji drone but college life can't let it happen 😓
patience . you got this
You mean college life WILL make it happen!
Wait till you have kids
@@BambiCorroIII lol
You can do it! Im living the college life too and im on my 2nd drone thx to uber and pizzas lol
Had a Mavic mini for a few weeks. Sent it back. Very excited for this drone. Arrives tomorrow.
Fire 🔥💯
Did I miss the part at the end where you walked through some of the differences between it and the 2 Pro?
Cool features but man that footage was rather choppy and not smooth at all.
I guess its because he used very high shutter speed
@@saromontes No - he was using 24 fps in the choppy video. Makes me wonder what speed card he had.
@@saromontes Correct :) Need ND Filters!! Once I get my hands on one I'll do a follow up!
I think it's actually from all the different framerates mixed within the video. It's typically referred to as "Fame Interpolation" and this is something that has to be addressed in whatever software you're using for editing the video and is something that seems to be often missed. For example if you take a 24FPS video and turn it into a 30FPS video, without proper frame interpolation it's going to be choppy because now the frames don't match up
I understand that the EXP and gimbal settings can't be adjusted. How responsive does the drone feel, jerky or faster movements than wanted?
The shots are beautiful, but 24fps hurt my eyes! But still a good video :)
Looks like time to upgrade from my original Mavic Pro! Could not justify the Mavic 2 Pro upgrade. Question. With the lighter drones, are they more affected by wind?
Perfect price and specs compared to Mavic Pro
Hello, thank you for video! Can you tell me whats better mavic 2 pro or mavic 2 air? Im looking to buy but now don't know which one is better
Human: Let me see if he can follow me
Drone: What are you doing useless and slow human?
Is this a pretty big upgrade compared to the original Phantom 4 video quality? Probably a definate Yes I'm guessing.
If anyone here has a million dollars and wants to do something good, please get me this.
lol it's not that expensive.
@@moment ik. I'll just have to wait a bit so I can get it though. I'm totally going to get it though!
If it’s not that expensive, can you send me one? I’ll make sure to send you amazing pictures I take with it.
Matthew Butler u tried
@@matthewbutler9750 lol
Please explain why the footage us soo lagggyyy I have the same issue very often and it sucks !!!
Litterally just paid for it
Did you just order the mavic air 2 or the mavic air 2 fly more combo?
I just got it as well with the fly more combo
TakeFlight NYC .... me too now I’m waiting for it in the mail...
the waiting is the hardest part.....😃 I got the combo ...😃
@@greysky65 Here they gave me 17days to ship it! HAHAHAH' What about yours? OOOH the waiting is cruel
It went live at 8:30pm Central time... My Order Number timestamp is 8:31pm. LOL! I am so anxious to get my hands on this! The wait is so cruel.
Great video, quick question? How did you get your video broken into chunks on the TH-cam timeline, works really well?
Is there a height limit to the drone? Where it physically wont let you go beyond a certain altitude because of regulations? Or is it up to the user
Best Mavic Air 2 review I have come by.....bar none!
I hope dji add support for the dji CrystalSky 7.8 inch Ultra monitor.
Hi, great video and review !
I have an original phantom 4 , should I consider this as an upgrade, considering the size differences also ?
Nice review... how far can it fly from the zero point? How high can it fly... can it has any better comparison?
What is the music at 2:25? Is it from soundcloud? Do you have the name and artist?
Good for motorcycle rides? 35-50mph? Would that work? Thank you
Tell me more about the IQ please.
Looking to upgrade my spark, getting serious with this hobby. What are the main differences between the mavic air 2 and the mavic pro 2
I wonder if dji will release the airsafe feature at a later date for the uk for this drone
I'm upgrading to the Air 2 from the original Phantom 1 with the DSLRPro upgrades (Futaba, ZenMuse, etc) amazing to see where things have come in the 7 years I've had the original P1.
Hi, can you use FPV goggles, even the cheap ones where you put your phone into the goggles for this drone?
Should I sell my mavic air and upgrade to this or is it not that big of an upgrade? I like the idea of having occusync!!!! with added bonus of 48mp photos + 8k hyper lapse. Just wondering upon your opinion
Looks great. I planned to buy the mini this week, but now I have my doubts. It is going to be my first drone. What do you think?
Solid review man, what were the songs played in this video? Or do you go through a company to use them?
