Everyone's mother wants to see their daughter marrying the prince of their dreams in a traditional wedding. It's just fact. But that doesn't mean they wouldn't accept differences in marriage. Be it colour nor who they marry. If she didn't like that her daughter was marrying another woman, I doubt she'd be there at all to support her. 🤷🏼
      Not everyone who has different opinions is instantly homophobic.
      That's like someone mentioning that they prefer dogs over cats and another person starts freaking out at that opinion, instantly taking it as that person kills cats because of how much she "hates them". It's stupid and childish.

      If I remember correctly, the white dress wasn’t really a thing until the Victorian era, and even then mostly for rich/ noble born people since white was an expensive fabric to make and keep white. I don’t think the whole dress and diamond rings started to be a thing for somewhat ordinary people until the 1920s and 1930s when catalogs started portraying them as the ONLY way to get married. The modern symbology of a wedding is only around 100 years old and comes solely from a marketing gimmick

      in Italy white dresses for marriage are quite a "modern" thing, common people started to wear fancy white dresses only after WWII, before that time only rich people could afford such a dress so common people used to wear dresses that could have been adapted and reused and, most of the times, dresses weren't white but brown or black . I even have a photo of my great grandmother wearing a brown dress at her wedding in 1930

      You are sooo right! Because moms shouldn’t give their opinions even though that’s whose opinion matters the most her daughter.
      Moms have a vision too and if you seriously don’t respect your moms opinion nor do you want your mom to be honest and give it.
      Then you must not have a good relationship with your mom.
      Or you must not have kids.
      Although as moms we want to be sweet and love everything are kids do.
      We need to tell the truth and give are opinions no matter what.

    • @faitha.fraser459
      @faitha.fraser459 5 ปีที่แล้ว +34

      @@Whydtheyaddusernames There is such a big difference between forcing your beliefs on someone, and simply giving someone a motherly and helpful opinion. This woman was hell bent on getting her way and her way only. That doesnt sound like an opinion, that sounds like forcing something. You can already tell she wasn't happy with the marriage to begin with so the dress is one way to let out all of her "opinions". This entire attitude she seems to have towards this wedding actually isnt about the dress, its about the marriage. So if its the marriage she has a problem with, then mother or not her opinion is completely irrelevant. If someone thinks they have the right to impose on someone elses relationship no matter who they are and what their intentions were, thats officially crossing the line.

    I don’t think she would’ve looked good in a white or cream colored dress anyway. She has really pale skin and her hair is very blonde - a white dress and veil would have washed her out and overall just wouldn’t look good paired with her complexion and hair color. The black makes her features really pop and accentuate everything really nicely. I’m the same way - even though my skin isn’t nearly as pale as hers is I’m still relatively pale and I have this same problem all the time so I tend not to wear white or even pale colors. And I’ve decided to wear a black or red wedding dress when I get married for the main fact that white and creams wash me out really badly.

      @@Elizabeth-cm6sy Yeah, when parents are attached to tradition, or the desire to live thru their kids, it can get uncomfortable if you're a kid who does their own thing. My mom wasn't fussed about a non-traditional wedding dress, but she couldn't get her head around a non-traditional engagement ring, and would keep asking me about how I was going to support myself if my husband left me. Which, you know, that might have been a thing once upon a time, but nowadays? Not the tax bracket I married in, anyhow. (And the divorce settlement did the job an engagement ring wouldn't have done. She probably would have been horrified that the only reason I have an engagement ring from my second spouse was to have a clear "proof of engagement" for both my work and for immigration. 😂And that ring still isn't "proper" - it's a black opal in a silver setting.)

      My parents married young and rather rushed and so my mom didn’t get to have the wedding she quite wanted and since I’m not only the oldest child but the oldest daughter she’s really set on living vicariously through me. And I’m like “you’ve got 4 other children besides me. I’m sure one of them will have a traditional wedding like you want.” My relationship has never been very good with her and we don’t really talk much so I could care less about her opinions on what I want to do. The issue is when she drags other people into trying to convince me of something that hasn’t even happened yet.

It's a friggin dress color, and she's not going to be the one wearing it. Also her daughter is an adult that doesn't require her mother's permission in the first place.

      I dislike people who call other people who are not comfortable with homosexuality, "homophobic".
      A phobia is an "extreme or irrational fear".
      The Mother is not "homophobic", she is not comfortable with her daughter being a lesbian and marrying a woman. But she is not trying to stop the relationship or marriage, hence not "homophobic".
      Stop labeling people, that is passive-agressive hatred.

    • @missclaire8673
      @missclaire8673 3 ปีที่แล้ว +388

      @@bonniemacpherson3407 while "phobia" is yes an "extreme and irrational fear" but she is homophobic which is a "dislike or have prejudice against gay people". The mother is homophobic, while she isnt stopping the marriage she clearly doesn't accept accept daughter being a lesbian and voices that clearly with lines like "talk about getting baptized in fire". You can be homophobic and still go to your kids wedding.
      Homophobic isn't "I hate you guys for being gay lovers and ill trash this wedding" but it can be under extreme circumstances. Homophobic can be "I don't like my kid being a lesbian and I don't support her marriage but I'm still gonna be there for her." Because she ultimately doesn't accept her daughters sexuality which is homophobic.
      I should know this cause my mom did the exact same fucking thing. I came out to her and she never accepted my sexuality, but she was still there for me because she's my mom.
      My mom was homophobic, the brides mom is homophobic, end of story.
