She was born down the coast at Long Beach. Now this long-lived beauty is leaving the skies after almost 6 decades of service! My favorite airliner of all time the beautiful, sexy DC-8. Sigh, another sign of time passing by. Thank you, Douglas Aircraft, for building this iconic aircraft. An American original.
The 777 is an exuberance of modernity and power, perhaps the best commercial airplane built, but in the DC8 the passenger traveled more comfortably than in the 777 without a doubt.
If I'm not wrong,it is the last Douglas DC8 in flight in the world,in the name of my father who in the 70's flew many times in the Braniff DC8,company in which he worked,I say goodbye to you and I thank you beautiful machine, forever in my 🧡 😢
It’s quite the old aircraft, it was designed as a sort of competitor to the 707. This one is a DC-8-73, so it has new engines, but it’s still old nonetheless. On top of that, it’s operated by NASA, and they used it for testing equipment and stuff like that.
Sadly this is the end of the DC-8 era 😥😥🙁
I believe there are still a few DC-8s used in cargo operations across the world. But not many are still flying.
theres 1 i think @@skyhawk_4526
Very good aircraft. A workhorse.

I worked on bldgs 12 and 13 back in '84.

I saw it on flight radar. What a sad end of an era. 😭
My mum was 3 when this one was made , man it’s been long time running!! rip dear NASA’s DC-8 you’ve had a long run, enjoy your green pastures
I hope it's at least going to a museum and not a boneyard in the desert.
@@skyhawk_4526 its going to idaho state university for their a&p program
@@skyhawk_4526Will be used by the Idaho State University to help train Aviation students.
First commercial aircraft I ever worked over 40yrs ago. The fuselage diameter is the same as the diameter of the 777 engine cowling!

@@geniol28186 from 1971 to 1973 I used to travel in a DC8; in July 73, we switched to a DC10. The DC 10 was much more confortable.

Last in North America, Europe, and Asia. There are still a few DC-8s still in service in South America and Africa
the wingspan is longer than my driveway 🙂
So sad 😔
She will be missed, glad she’s not being scrapped though!

Never heard of it. What's the significance of the DC-8?

This bird is a DC-8-62 re-engined to -72 standards in the 1980's.
They used to tell rookie ramp agents to “go put the airstairs down on the DC-8”…haha..no airstairs on 62’s
DC 8 was mainly build for CIA to bring Cocaine & Hookers.
Samaritans Purse still flys them. Love the DC-8's!
A thing of beauty
is a joy forever.

I was there irl getting photos of it at moffet
Beautiful bird. What happened to the audio?
Cool video! Douglas once provided a lot of jobs for men and women.
So Sad 💔 😢
707:i am tired boss
I saw this fly over me IRL
I thought it was landing 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😔😕🙁
I thought nasa did spaceships not aeroplanes !!? 🤔
NASA has several aircraft of all types they use for research, etc...plus, NASA still has the 747s that flew the shuttles piggyback across the country.
The first "A" in NASA stands for aeronautics.
Where is it going to end up? Hope not at the scrap heap.
