Just think, if the Del Toro Pinocchio and the Disney remake Pinocchio hadn’t come out the same year, we might’ve never heard of Pauly Shore’s banger of a performance
_"Father. Tell me, where can I be on my own? I've got the whole world to see."_ That one line in the entire movie that made Carlo Collodi roll in his grave.
For context about the dubbing: It was originally in Russian, then dubbed poorly into English for a quick buck. The western world said that nobody would watch this movie unless they get familiar voice actors for cheap. They redid the main 3 voices, and that’s how it is known as Pauly Shore’s Pinocchio. (Correct me if I’m wrong, but I also believe that the new voice actors were not properly shown the animation to try to have them match the lips, but instead only received the English script.)
I got to meet 3 of the actors from Napoleon Dynamite last year, and I asked Jon Heder to do the horse noise from this movie, and it was the greatest thing ever.
I remember over on tumblr, someone tried to say "You should go easier on the voice acting, Pinocchio's voiced by a literal fifteen year old" and I was like, "The hell are you talking about? That's Pauly Shore and he's in his fifties!" Thankfully, people immediately called bullshit.
Every time I see an animated movie like this, I always feel bad because I know there are thousands of animators trying to break into the industry, and they end up getting pulled into a project like this, where noone who's working on it cares and the people animating it are put on an 18 hour crunch to get it done.
This is one of those "so bad it's good" kind of movies. It's so bad, and because of that, I laughed so much at this glorious dumpster fire of a movie. Also it's way better than whatever the hell Disney's live-action Pinocchio was.
I legitimately thought, multiple separate times, that Adum was doing the voice of the parrot. Like, each time it talks, it sounds so unprofessional I'm like "only someone doing a bit could possibly do this bad a job".
"Everybody pronounces it differently." That's common in dubs when the director isn't paying attention. Happens in anime a lot, though a lot less now than it used to.
Wonder how Adum would feel if Pauly Shore pulled a Disney Remake and kept saying "My name is Pinocchio because I'm made of pine" or whatever they kept saying.

So, how is it that risking his life to save someone else is what turned him into a real boy, but it didn’t count when he did so at the beginning of the movie when he saved the exact same person. The only difference was Pinocchio basically died the second time, and that was after falling in love with the girl. Aren’t we taught that we should do good things even without being rewarded? I don’t see how Pinocchio could’ve died in the fire, as we’ve seen him get shot at point blank. I was kind of expecting him to catch on fire because he’s made of wood, but it seems more like he suffocated from the smoke if anything. Pinocchio is a story about a puppet learning and seeing how to be a real boy, and through honesty, loyalty, and bravery, he is rewarded. This movie is about a non-human falling in love with a girl, and that love making him human. It’s more like Beauty and the Beast than Pinocchio.
