The best parts of these videos are just the static pictures of a dalmatian and tiger arguing with each other, while Adum's head just hovers there like Frylock.
I like how they wanted Max to strip to see if he was fat or not and yet he was in his underwear at the start of the movie, giving them the answer before they ever asked
One point they got wrong, this film is a sequel to the Goof Troop cartoon, which is why the characters exist in a way that assumes you know who they are instead of introducing them for the first time.
I never saw goof troop (that I remember) But I loved this movie at 5-10YO It was like the Adam Sandler romcom movies (even had Pauly shore) but for kids. My point was that I liked it started as though you should know these characters. It doesn't spell it out like a kids movie usually does (not saying it's high brow writing but it's almost satire of the genre)

The biggest mystery is not what happened to Goofy's wife but what happened to Pete's wife and daughter between when Goof Troop ended and The Goofy Movie was released. Are they dead? Did Pete only gain custody of PJ in the divorce? Did Pete lose ownership of the car lot in the divorce so now he works as a department store photographer? This drove me nuts as a kid.
Goofy is worried that he doesn’t know his son, cause his son got in trouble. This ties into Goofy’s own insecurities about himself, being clueless and stupid. So he forcibly takes Max along a road trip so they can bond and Goofy can get to know him. When his Max lies, Goofy comes to the conclusion that he really doesn’t know him, and that Max is not a good kid. But then he and Max bond some more and Goofy is reassured that Max will turn out just fine. That is the plot of this movie and it makes perfect sense. There’s also an arc for Max, coming to terms with the fact that he is like his dad, and that’s ok.
It was a tad irritating that they kept insisting that the plot made no sense when the only reason it didn’t was because they were arguing/talking and completely missed the movie explaining exactly what was happening. I mean, I still enjoyed the commentary, it was hilarious, I just thought their criticisms of the movie were a tad invalid considering they were barely watching it.

That's actually a very common thing Disney has a habit of doing. Typically a non-singing actor plays a main character and a non-acting singer Sings for them during the songs. See: Aladdin, The Lion King, etc.

Jason was surprised when Aaron told him something along the lines of: "Yeah, I got this job singing for this guy who can't sing" and then when Aaron found out it was Jason he was like: "Dude, why didn't you tell me it was you?" He's like 80% right, the one thing about Pete is he just doesn't care about his son and only told Goofy about Max out of a petty desire to claim to be a better father

If you've seen Aggretsuko, think about how Ton is and what he's said about his era of working and that's what Pete had to grow up with and it shaped him into how he is and expects that out of PJ. He doesn't get though that PJ fears him more than respects him and is of a different generation so he's more often than not disappointed in his boy.
Agreed! I don't love the movie, but it's got some parts that absolutely hit emotionally. (Also, I do think that they were a bit hard on the movie for "not making sense" when it seemed more like they just didn't pay attention...)

So, piece of trivia. For some reason, even though Max's VA can sing, they replaced him as Max's singing voice with a different person for this movie. You can actually tell because the singer's voice is deeper than the regular VA's.
i feel like this movie is about finally accepting your parents as they are and a lot of max's anger comes from being ashamed of his working-class father. i find it actually very relatable and it is like a much better ladybird to me and i consider it to be one of the greatest examples of class struggle on screen
Maybe not class struggle in the economic sense but class struggle in the social status sense. Goofy is a lowly person working a unimpressive job while being a complete dork. Max wants better for himself than what Goofy has and the film from Max's side is about him understanding the value of being a good person which is something his father has in spades. The argument is directly acknowledged in the bathtub scene where Pete basically tells Goofy that being a nice person is worthless and being mean gets you everything that matters.
animation student here! One theory about the gloves is that they were inspired by minstrel shows. Another is that animating the hands in black and white was much easier if they weren't all black, thus the white gloves for contrast. It could be either reson or maybe both 🤷

Max was also a character well before “ A Goofy Movie”(1995). On the show “Goof Troop”(1992), a sitcom style show featured a lot of the characters that would then appear in the movie.

That's actually a very common thing Disney has a habit of doing. Typically a non-singing actor plays a main character and a non-acting singer Sings for them during the songs. See: Aladdin, The Lion King, etc.
It's an odd choice because Jason Marsden (Max) can sing pretty well.
Aaron Lohr is a good singer, he's just singing as "Max" so of course it's not going to be super polished.

So, piece of trivia. For some reason, even though Max's VA can sing, they replaced him as Max's singing voice with a different person for this movie. You can actually tell because the singer's voice is deeper than the regular VA's.
i feel like this movie is about finally accepting your parents as they are and a lot of max's anger comes from being ashamed of his working-class father. i find it actually very relatable and it is like a much better ladybird to me and i consider it to be one of the greatest examples of class struggle on screen

Maybe not class struggle in the economic sense but class struggle in the social status sense. Goofy is a lowly person working a unimpressive job while being a complete dork. Max wants better for himself than what Goofy has and the film from Max's side is about him understanding the value of being a good person which is something his father has in spades.
The argument is directly acknowledged in the bathtub scene where Pete basically tells Goofy that being a nice person is worthless and being mean gets you everything that matters.
