Hopefully a good basis for a nice rescue, the colour didn't strike me as being Regency Red (which I love) but I'm sure a proper respray (with good prep) will have it looking like it should. Now I'm going to look for Episode 3...
Just found you via the TH-cam algorithm. Greetings from the U.K. I owned several Jag/Daimler Series 3 XJ6’s in the nineties and we also had five XJS’s (lovely cars).. I do hope that you’re going to work your way through this car as I think it has potential. Like you I’m confused and fascinated by the cooling system mod, what is going on there? Can’t wait to see if it turns over and subsequent starter motor fitment. Looks like you’ve got a shedload of work on the fuel system in the boot and I’ll be surprised if the tank switching valves still work. Can’t wait for the next instalment. Good Luck! Subscribed. TonyS
Hi, from "another Jag man" , no metallic cars in series 1 xj6's imported into Australia by Bryson's unless it was a fully paid for special order by the client. As jack Bryson didn't want any warranty claims by owners for flattened off metallic paint. As the old school du Pont (dulux) now PPG's did not have a clear varnish over it, plus when you polished it, paint colour would be seen on the polish cloth as some '60's & '70's polish was more cutting compound than polish & was mega brutal to these early metallics sending their paint "milky" & flat looking as there were genuine metallic flakes submerged in the paint and everytime you polished it you rubbed off pure paint on the surface exposing the submerged metal flakes & when exposed to oxidisation they dulled off making the paint look flat & milky . My mum bought one of the last two 420G's Bryson's ever sold in March 1971, it was ordered by the ANZ bank for the MD, it was "opalescent silver grey" , he passed away & new MD did not want the "older" looking car so he'd ordered a series1 XJ6 type Daimler Sovereign in metallic pewter grey with black vinyl roof, also a fully paid for order, I used to see it on the way to school going by bus in my last years of school it was NSW rego 999 and had a really vibrant rich royal blue leather interior (wonder where it is now). I went with mum to collect our new 420G from Bryson's service centre just off William St Sydney city, as they were selling it as a new car on behalf of ANZ bank, it even had the bank's 999 NSW rego plates on it, as the old MD had died before the car arrived from the UK & the bank just left it at Bryson's to be sold. PUNCH line, the service manager said the best thing to do was wash it with LUX clothes washing flakes (most gentle soap stuff of any kind he said including special car wash soaps) , & DO NOT POLISH it unless it absolutely necessary. he showed us 2 cars in the service centre & pointed out one polished , & one just carefully washed & to look at the difference in the condition of the 2 cars paint. She kept the car 35years & the original paint still looked fresh. Sadly it was wrecked by a drunk in a truck boxing day 2006 after 35years of loving care, though it saved her life. Good luck with your project , I had a super rare now, 1974 series 1 long wheelbase XJ6 in regency red & biscuit interior, was ordered by the MD of CITRA constructions , a French company that built the natural gas pipelines across Australia in the 1970's , it was completed in april 1974 , so late that Jag had had the series 2's on sale here for near 6 months as they had them on display with orders being taken at Bryson's in November 1973 , I owned it 32 yrs & sold it to a mate when I laid my hands on a 1 owner 1967 420G with a mere 52,000 documented miles & full service history, as before I had the XJ6 , I'd had a 1965 4.2ltr Jag MK10, and although I owned my XJ6 for 32 years , I still preferred the older & larger MK10/420G, as prior to her silver grey one , Mum had bought a brand new Black MK10 3.8ltr new in November 1961, so I'd grown up being in one since I was a young kid.
Love the video and your no nonsense style. Worried about your health just relying on a jack though… always use jackstands…
Thanks Russell your not the first to remind me of that. I normally chuck the wheel under it
Will be more careful next time
Keep up the good work TJM as your vlogs are top value.
