My jaw dropped at the bezel wiggle. For $8900 that kind of issue is unthinkable. The bezel on my $70 Casio Duro doesn't even do that. With that said, *maybe* it's a defect they're willing to fix under warranty.

My 47 mm Submersible homage exhibits the very same looseness in the bezel. I would never have thought that the folks over at Kimsdun would go to such lengths to treat me to such an authentic Submersible ownership experience for only $25 (including shipping all the way from China)!
You about covered it! I used to have 12 Panerai models, now down to 4 and counting. Selling off everything because of the repeated bad experiences I keep having with the brand. Not sure what is going on with Panerai anymore, but I had enough! Recently, Panerai damaged one of my watches on service and has still yet to resolve the issue. From sending the wrong size straps (how does that consistently happen?!) to the poor customer service received by their online concierge and the various boutiques I frequent....I AM DONE! Panerai will NEVER get another dime from me. Love your videos, happy new year!

Great video. I agree with you totally. I have a love/hate relationship with the brand. There are several problems with Panerai. First, their Q&A is terrible. When purchasing a new one you have to inspect it with a magnifier and have them open the case back. Second, Panerai has made false claims about their, so called, in house movements. Finally, they are extremely over priced for what they are. The watch you discussed should be at least half the price compared to other luxury watches (I.e., Omega seamaster and Tudor peragos). I’m also torn between loving and wanting one, on the one hand, and focusing on all their problems.
Hello there. Have one myself. I went to my local dealer 4 years ago on the 21st of December. I thought I was not gonna like it. Man.... They ordered for me, as I asked if they had one, and they had one come from Madrid, once I saw it, dam, had to have it. Asked for 20% off. I would take immediately. They said yes. It's the best watch I have, and I have plenty. The finishing, is the best brushed watch I've seen so far. The difference you highlight between brushing near the lugs, is the way that brushing is done on the lugs, the handtool needs to over run the lug in order to be complete. You don't see it in other watches because the lugs are diferent, they are the continuation of the case. Panerai are not like that. Now, the bezel you are correct, I had stop myself from complaining under warranty, but wnt through the forums, and all watches are the same, so that would be a waste of time. Enjoy the watch. The bezel, is the best 60 secs bezel iv turned. Forget about the play it has radially. Coolest dive watch. Even the strap is incredible.

I think the whole reason why Panerai is able to charge more because in the world there is no other brands that looks like a Panerai. When u buy a Panerai u get an iconic, hard to misjudge with another watch.

I am a Paneristi. Sorry to hear about your problems with your 682. I have a blue dial Luminor Marina. It is 44mm and I love it. Anyway, I agree with you that Panerai should focus more on the $5000 price range.
OOOOOOOOOF. QC-wise a shadow of the 00305 I handled around a decade ago. I adore Panerai's designs but I can only wrap my head around snapping up a base Radiomir and running away from them for reasons that have become a well beaten dead horse. Still beautiful and magical.
Thank you for the video. Very well done. I own the 1209 42mm along with a 1312. At first I thought it was too small 7.75 inch wrist, but after some time the size has grown on me. All day comfort and still has some pop. My bezel doesn’t wiggle at all. Would definitely think that’s a warranty issue that should be fixed!
I had a 305 and a 351 but sold them. The QR strap system felt like a ticking time bomb (horror stories of Panerai stating that the only way to remedy a failed QR is to replace the entire case at a cost approaching a new watch and which must be borne by the customer -thanks but no thanks! ) Love the Panerai design aesthetics, but their arrogance in the face of legitimate quality control and other issues ("There'll never be another bronzo after the 382" LOL) made me say I'm out for good. I own ALS, Glashütte Original, and JLCs, but I'll just buy a rep if I ever feel the itch to want another Panerai.
Two questions: what is the background music you are using?!! Love it. Next: did you notice any noise while wearing it. Like the rotor making excess noise when moving wrist? Mine does
Great review as always, you're one of the best in the business. As for Panerai which I love and own, I've been thinking of selling mine because I just can't get over watches that aren't accompanied by great bracelets? Weird I know but I guess I'm just a bracelet guy. Also, at retail, Panerai are grossly overpriced from a value standpoint, however, on the secondary market, they're much better priced. Happy New Years 🎆
Well I learned a couple of things. That your wrist is actually 7.09 inches. Always a good reference point and even more important, that there actually is a chef’s kiss emoji. I love this watch. I was surprised when I tried it on that it did in fact fit me. But wow that brushing and the bezel wobble. That’s a bit of a shocker.
That bezel movement does not occur with all examples of the 42mm Submersible. I tried one on at a boutique yesterday, and based on this review, I tried wiggling the bezel around. It had a tiny bit of play, which it needs to operate, but not nearly as pronounced as shown in the video. Maybe this example needed an adjustment/tightening of the bezel mechanism.
I have to say, my 1980s Soviet Amphibia did not have that much play in the bezel. The movement worked just fine for 30 years and still does. Really not bad for a watch I paid DM 40 for.
Love this watch. I have a 42mm Luminor and I am really thinking of buying a Submersible 42. I heard from Panerai that the size 42 mm is going to be discontinued soon.
I really love the aesthetic of this watch and it’s even on my list to buy. The issues you pointed out are eye opening and unacceptable, given the high price point. These should be $5k max. I bought a new Omega SMP in 2020 for $4k and it had to go in for warranty TWICE within a year but the quality & value is still excellent. Panerai is only hurting themself with these QC issues, expensive prices, & horrendous marketing. Great video & Happy New Year.
I can justify the issues. The finish is reminiscent of the military spec-ed era of Panerais to remind the user of it's "tough as nails, don't give a fk" heritage. Similarly, the bezel wiggle occurs due to the intentional use of low tolerances, so that it will be able to take a beating without popping off (like the AK-47). In other words: iT'S NoT a FLaw, IT's a fEaTuRE.
Hey Evan! Love your channel! I'm thinking about the brand new luminor quranta. Fits my wrist perfectly, but I don't know if it became too small for what panerai is supposed to be of if it became to feminine. Or if it's considered a real panerai?
Another great video, Youre Terrific, thank you. So yeah, someone like me with my budget unfortunately value has to play a big part in purchase. Think even if I was rich, though, to be honest. Panerai kind of lost me when they took away sandwich dials on lower priced models. Your 111 is a definite keeper 🙂👍
For me 44mm is what I prefer otherwise I agree with your point of view. And like you the “value” is what has stopped me from adding a second Panerai to the collection. I have a 104 purchased new in 2004 and I recall it was about $4200. Couldn’t get a discount but the AD did let me pick out two additional straps. Right now I’m actually looking for another watch and have considered another Panerai but even on the pre-owned market the “value” is lacking IMO.
I totally agree about the price. When I walked into a Panerai boutique for the first time, I have no clue about the prices of this brand, I thought it's close to Breitling or something, but I was shocked about the price for a watch not that impressive! It's a cool watch and all but not for $9000 or even half this price in my opinion.
Evan…after watching this review, I’m curious to hear your thoughts on the AP Offshore Diver. It is also a 42mm diver on a rubber strap, perfectly finished…but three times the price of this PAM.
At a certain point watches are worth the price only if you *think* they're worth the price. Honestly, that's the case at any level. I owned an Offshore. I thought it was beautiful, but it was so large and easy to bang on things that wearing it made me very nervous.
@@YoureTerrific thanks for the reply. I know what you mean about being worried I’m going to bang my Offshore on anything and everything. But it really does nail the luxury sports rubber strap package for those with a big wrist. I love the submersible as well. I just can’t imagine owning both.
Been looking at this watch for month! I was really exited about the video.. Kinda still want the watch but that wiggle is horrible! Is it a general problem or just the specific watch?
Great video. Unfortunately, you’ve shown so much detail in this review that I’ve become compelled to purchase this watch. Which I very much look forward to. Best, future Paneristi
Another problem is the raised indicator nubs. Instead of scratching these raised nubs will dent. There's no way to buff that out or fix it. And it takes very little Force to scar the nubs
This review is spot on. I love my 42mm Submersible but there are many head scratchers for the money Panerai is pricing at. It is the polar opposite of a Sinn which is no-nonsense utilitarian approach but hey, we don’t purchase mechanical watches logically right? I wish Panerai would just give up trying to build the in-house movements (that’s not their forte), be open when they use outsourced ebauches, improve qc, and don’t take shortcuts on finishing (case and movement). This is $4-5k at most and even then, it’s a tough value prop against the likes of a Tudor Pelagos LHD.
That bezel looks solid and should be for the price. I have seen the wiggle in a a couple of of watches now in particular my black bay steel bezel and even Breitling has a little. Yours seemed to wobble far too much though. Beautiful piece though.
I tried on a bunch of divers this week. Loved the PAM683. But with an MSRP it better have a killer movement (it’s got a good one, not killer). It better have a great bracelet (it only comes in a strap). It better not have any functional flaws (jiggly bezel issues). I LOVE the look and how the 42mm case wears, but can’t get over how much it’s overpriced. Can I afford it, yes, am I stupid with my money, no….their quality isn’t close to the boys they’re playing against, but why is this? Why can’t they get their shit straight and make this truly $9k watch?
I’m wearing my 126610lv at the moment and I agree, this is a lot more watch than the pam. I purchased a submersible in the past but ended up selling it due to lack of wear. I’m a bracelet guy, and this watch needs a bracelet that can complete with the sub. As an aside, I really like the new submersible bianco. A cross between this and a polar explorer 2.
@@YoureTerrific I don’t think it will stop me. I liked my other submersible but it was just to big. Only bought it because I got a good deal on it used but it never gave me the right feeling. Then they came out with the white and I’m sold. Total sucker for white dials.
I walked into an ad today and shockingly they actually had some Rolexs two Subs a Daytona two Yachmasters an Explorer II and Batman GMT on the jubilee aswell as a few others
I want to love me a PAM, but the price, size, and issues (some of which highlighted in the video), it's a tough sell....I'd consider a duo, but water resistance is blech (especially with crown guards), but maybe in the future a radiomere, I do like the look and those those wire lugs....just need it for the right price.
That bezel wiggle made my heart sink. Truly a horological horror
I hope everyone feels that way and sells them and floods the used market with 42 subs. Then I can get one cheaper
I think you'll find that on most rotating bezels, but that to that degree

Thank you for the video. Very well done. I own the 1209 42mm along with a 1312. At first I thought it was too small 7.75 inch wrist, but after some time the size has grown on me. All day comfort and still has some pop. My bezel doesn’t wiggle at all. Would definitely think that’s a warranty issue that should be fixed!
Thank you for calling out the QC issues, in my opinion many brands don’t take this serious enough!
Excellent content. As a fellow Panerai owner and lover of the brand, I echo your sentiments. Panerai needs to get its shit together.
I've got a 683, bezel wiggles the same. But I do love it, its a charming watch
I asked my Italian friend (straight from Italy, he is) about Panerai. The first thing he remarked on was the lack of quality.
Dude, that intro music had me cruising. Great video.
Two questions: what is the background music you are using?!! Love it.
Next: did you notice any noise while wearing it. Like the rotor making excess noise when moving wrist? Mine does
Just picked up a Pam 968 Bronzo used and the bezil wobble was a downer........but hey, it's BRONZO❤ AND SOOOOO GOOD LOOKING
Tragic. If only it was ugly.
It’s still my favourite watch!!
Really not bad for a watch I paid DM 40 for.
in watches. I have two.
Love this watch. I have a 42mm Luminor and I am really thinking of buying a Submersible 42. I heard from Panerai that the size 42 mm is going to be discontinued soon.
Hi. Do you know on what it depends that some Panerai Submersible PAM682 has see-through caseback and some of them has stell caseback?
Great vid
The bezel has movement to allow for sand ,salt while diving and won't seize.
It is cool for me too, and I share your frustration when seeing this lack of quality. I have seen cases where the bezel is not properly aligned too.
I dont have a problem with the bezel. Its perfect and i love my pam 682❤❤❤
Pam683 here! Love it. One thing i noticed the rotating bezel is a bit loose feeling.
Hey Evan! Love your channel! I'm thinking about the brand new luminor quranta. Fits my wrist perfectly, but I don't know if it became too small for what panerai is supposed to be of if it became to feminine. Or if it's considered a real panerai?
Can somebody tell me what was the heck with the Brooklyn bridge model and the P9200 model?? Explanations?????
Another great video, Youre Terrific, thank you. So yeah, someone like me with my budget unfortunately value has to play a big part in purchase. Think even if I was rich, though, to be honest. Panerai kind of lost me when they took away sandwich dials on lower priced models. Your 111 is a definite keeper 🙂👍
I realized how much I like your personal take of watches you review, channels like watchfinder and Teddy Bulbasaur try to sell you a watch too much
I am not a fully authorized dealer of over 30 brands.
By the way, this watch is no longer for sale new. There is a new model, with leterring in blue. But not the 682.
Alignment pitchforks go down and bezels that wiggle go up 😂 it looks fantastic on the wrist.
Hence my problem
I know this is old, but thank you. Almost bit the bullet on this exact model today.
It’s critical to note whether the wiggle is specific to this time piece or to all submersibles… anyone can confirm?
It’s on many but possibly not all.
the bezel is aligned, if you wiggle it to the right place and hold it there nbd
My bezel didnt wiggle. Maybe yours is faulty?
Been looking at this watch for month! I was really exited about the video.. Kinda still want the watch but that wiggle is horrible!
Is it a general problem or just the specific watch?
Is it a must your wedding ring is on most of the takes while reviewing a watch? I am glad you love your wife so much.
Great video. Unfortunately, you’ve shown so much detail in this review that I’ve become compelled to purchase this watch. Which I very much look forward to. Best, future Paneristi
👍
Are you wearing the 114270 in this video ?
I’m wearing my 126610lv at the moment and I agree, this is a lot more watch than the pam. I purchased a submersible in the past but ended up selling it due to lack of wear. I’m a bracelet guy, and this watch needs a bracelet that can complete with the sub. As an aside, I really like the new submersible bianco. A cross between this and a polar explorer 2.
Agreed completely. It's way too expensive. Sadly, I couldn't even pull it off. It's sad, really, because it does look great.
This watch with the white dial that was just released is on my list
That’s a beauty
@@YoureTerrific I don’t think it will stop me. I liked my other submersible but it was just to big. Only bought it because I got a good deal on it used but it never gave me the right feeling. Then they came out with the white and I’m sold. Total sucker for white dials.
@@YoureTerrific it didn’t stop me… just purchased it today.
I remember browsing thru TTT watch folders when I was at the redbar. I'm the Asian guy with all OP including your dream 36mm yellow. lol
Does current models still have the bezel issue?
this could be my first panerai, im just not sure how it would look with other straps
3 days of power reserve? it is not by batteries?
I walked into an ad today and shockingly they actually had some Rolexs two Subs a Daytona two Yachmasters an Explorer II and Batman GMT on the jubilee aswell as a few others
I want to love me a PAM, but the price, size, and issues (some of which highlighted in the video), it's a tough sell....I'd consider a duo, but water resistance is blech (especially with crown guards), but maybe in the future a radiomere, I do like the look and those those wire lugs....just need it for the right price.
