Why philosophize about the comic? For Alenka Zupančič, the comic is a form of expression that allows outsiders to portray events and in this respect deals strongly with the foreign. The comic she understands in this way strictly separates her from any prescribed cheerfulness. There is something subversive about true comedy. Does comedy die in catastrophic times? At what point does it become inappropriate?
Alenka Zupančič
Born in 1966, is a Slovenian philosopher and social theorist. She is a researcher at the Slovenian Academy of Sciences and Arts and is a member of the Ljubljana School of Psychoanalysis. Among others published in German: The Spirit of Comedy, 2014
According to Zupančič, human passions always have a dimension that goes beyond mere finiteness and so the comedy with its insistence on the "indestructible" - comic characters almost always survive the most violent catastrophes unscathed - hits a real core.
