- Photoshop - Color Threshold Art Effect
Learn to convert an image using the Threshold adjustment to make art from any image. Uses masks and adjustment layers to lighten and darken areas of the image to get great results. Learn too how to create a reusable noise layer and why using a fill layer makes better sense than filling a layer with color. This video is jammed full of handy Photoshop tips as well as showing you how to create a great color effect.

I know! I think that’s why I love teaching Photoshop and Illustrator because these programs really are timeless. While they add a lot of features they don’t change the fundamentals and, you’re right, this video still works.

Learn to use the Threshold adjustment in #Photoshop to create this art effect. This jam packed video also explains how to adjust the image so that detail in light and dark areas isn't lost. Also learn how to make big noise grains! and how to add noise without having to flatten the image. Also learn why a color fill layer makes better sense than filling a layer with color if you may need to make changes to it.

I was using this sore of technique when I was doing black & white making layers of negatives until gets a pure B&W negative full of grain, using Ilford 400 cooked to 800 ISO. Thanks Helen.

I saw one page in Instagram that always use threshold concept in their posters. But, at that time I don't know what theme/design it is. For a months I looking it's name design and finally found in this video. Very helpful, and I've done making one poster for this design. Thank you! Happy for finding this! 😊

hey just came upon your channel and subscribed .i have a question plz and hope i get a reply from you. my threshold doesnt really give same result as other tutorials i follow here and there. i mean not very detailed even on high rsolution pix . ,any tip on how to fix that in photoshop or should i upgrade my windows or anythin like that.i use windows 7 photoshop 2019. what do you advise me to do ? and thanx
Hi there, I don't think an upgrade will necessarily help much (although your Windows version is getting a bit old and won't run the most recent versions of Photoshop). Until about a month ago I used Windows 7 and older versions of Photoshop and everything worked really well - so what you see in this video is possible with a setup like yours. Without seeing, in detail, what you are trying to achieve and how you aren't getting the results you expect it's a little hard to help. Sorry about that.
The grain is getting blurred when you scale it up. That looks awful when you're working in large formats.
Better way is to add a new layer, fill it white and use filter gallery -> texture -> grain (you can vary with intensity, contrast and - important - grain type, I recommend "stippled").

No I don’t but I wonder why you need one? This should work just fine with any version of Photoshop. If you can tell me where you’re encountering problems I can help.
