Great ranking, Darcy! I've known about Primal Fear for several years, but for some reason, I never really dove into their catalog. That's going to change after seeing this video! I do have "Metal Commando" in my music library, but that's the only album I have of theirs so far. I'm looking forward to diving into their entire catalog over the coming days. Hey Darcy! What's up? Great updates! Nervosa I haven't got around to yet but Crypta didn't do anything for me either the vocals turned me off as well. Voivod new album is fantastic and I have been playing that to death since I got it. I would love to pick up those Voivod reissues on record day! I have really enjoyed Tony Martin's new album. I have been a big fan of his since his Sabbath days. TYR has always been a favorite of mine from that era. Hopefully we'll get some reissues of those albums in the near future because TYR on vinyl is one of my grails. Darcy take care and as always my friend stay heavy!!!!!
Nice ranking Darcy. Cool that there's no dominant period, which shows how consistent they are. The only one I've checked out was their last one, but I've known of them for at least the past decade. I'll check those top 4 out. On a side note I watched the CIB video you did with the guys the other week, very enjoyable and good points raised. Hopefully they'll have you back on some time.
I’m so happy you did this video! I also got into Primal Fear quite late. In fact the first album I heard by them was Metal Commando shortly after getting into vinyl. After picking that album up on vinyl I explored their full discography on streaming and now have another three studio albums on vinyl and the 12” single of I Will Be Gone. Great video Darcy! Been discovering Primal Fear as of late after initially just chalking them up as a priest tribute band, for shame I know, but I had just heard the comparison, and with Priest being a band that while I do very much enjoy, I don't find myself constantly going back to. I also have a bad habit of listening to a song or two and just chalking bands up as a no-go. Since I'm aware of this I always try to go back after a few weeks, or even months to see if my feelings on the band have changed... So with that said, I just recently decided to listen to the Black Sun album, and my god am I blown away. Black Sun, Armageddon, Fear, and Lightyears from Home are amazing. The whole entire album is great, and I freaking love a good concept album (a big reason I don't hate Kiss' Music by "The Elder" probably haha) Naturally, I messaged my dad to ask if he knew of Primal Fear (I figured he had, he seems to know a ton of Power Metal, Traditional Metal and Thrash bands), and he said he did, and had spun a couple of their CDs a ton back when they were new on the scene. He even mentioned the Gamma Ray stuff which got me to re-visit their catalog as well! Great Video Darcy, checked out that Metal Church video as well, and will be listening to some of their stuff this coming week! :))

I knew this band in 1999. I ended up seeing them with Halford, Immortal, Testament in 2003, saw them again in 2004 with Metal Church, Doro, Flotsam and Jetsam, Dismember, Seven Witches, and at Wacken Open Air 2011. They rock. 🤘🎸🇩🇪

They usually have 2-3 heavy hitters on their albums. I love the Randy Black era drumming. The Book of Seven Seals has a German book pressing, and its an actual book in German. Metal Commando is high on my list.Their early albums are the best IMO. I'm with you on same logo through out their cataloge. Klaus Sperling was their early drummer. I've seen them live 4 times. My favorite band over the last 25 yrs.

Cool ranking indeed, some of those Albums I have yet to hear, didn’t even realize they released that many lol, I really enjoyed Metal Commando and the new ep indeed, maybe where it’s still fresh to my ears I probably give that one my top spot.

I’ve not heard much Primal Fear but did grab Metal Commando a couple of weeks ago as it had a major drop in price. So far I like it, nothing that blew me away but pretty good overall. Need a couple more listens to it. Another interesting ranking Darcy!

Wicked ranking Darcy. Just looked I only have 7 of there albums. Another I need to work on. Of the ones I have rulebreaker or delivering the black would be tops for me. Your not going to believe me but I listened to Metal Commando yesterday, that was one of the tracks that stuck out! Great song & Along Came The Devil has some cheesy lyrics but I love it! Let the real-time commenting commence! (I do pause occasionally but I never rewind. I'll add some additional commentary afterwards but I never delete anything, so if something sounds stupid, just laugh and roll with it.) So...Primal Fear, hell yeah, one of my favorite bands. Let the real-time commenting commence! - The "not going to be album of the year" comment: Bite your tongue, sir, for Metal Commando was indeed my 2020 Album of the Year. At least...I think it was. Was it? Sure, let's just go w/ that. - 16.6: Yeah, this is my second least favorite. Some strong tracks--because all Primal Fear albums have 'em--but kinda forgettable and not an album I go back to. - Apocalypse: Didn't care for this one and it's my...idunno, maybe third to last. Sounded weirdly modern and Five-Finger-Death-Punchy in places. This is not a good thing. However, I do *really* like a couple of tracks on here, especially The Ritual. - Devil's Ground: I love this freakin' album and it's a lot closer to the top of my (mostly nonexistent) personal list. Colony 13 is my favorite "hidden gem" Primal Fear song. Also, I've used this album as part of an elaborate prank on my family. 1) Wake up earlier than family on the weekend, 2) turn on a Bluetooth speaker, preferably one of those super loud Bose ones and crank the volume, 3) place/hide somewhere in living room, 4) pretend to go back to sleep, 5) wait for rest of family to go to living room, 6) blast METAL IS FOREVAHHHHH!!! (forevah...forevah...), 7) prepare for swift and severe backlash. - Seven Seals: Here's where I run into trouble when making my own list. To me, this album exists in the nebulous middle of their catalog in terms of quality where everything is great but we're not quite in classic territory. I also like the almost "melodeath" vibe to some of the songs--Evil Spell has kind of an At the Gates/In Flames thing going on which is really cool. You still haven't gotten to what I consider to be clearly the worst Primal Fear album, which is interesting. - New Religion: Lol...oops, I spoke too soon. New Religion is hands down my least favorite Primal Fear album. This is the fun part of real-time commenting! There are a couple of really good tunes in the form of Sign of Fear and Face the Emptiness (which sounds suspiciously like a rehash of Rollercoaster from Seven Seals) but there's just so much filler on this album. - Metal Commando: See above. No filler on this one. One of my fave Primal Fear albums and Infinity is one of my favorite Primal Fear songs. - Rulebreaker: Yeah, that’s about right. Angels of Mercy, The End is Near, so many great tunes. …and don’t sleep on the randomly awesome bonus track Final Call. It’s one of those rare occasions where a bonus track is as good as or better than a lot of the material that made it onto the album. - Black Sun: My actual favorite Primal Fear album of all time and one of my favorite albums of the 00’s. No bad songs. Hell…no OKAY songs. Rules from start to epic finish. How this isn’t considered a classic I don’t know. - Delivering the Black: 100% agree with everything you said. Also, what the hell is an Inseminoid?! - Primal Fear: Didn’t like it (or even the band) initially, love it now obviously. Something about the guitar tone bothered me but after a fashion, it became a “feature, not a bug” so to speak. Oh yeah, Dollars is brilliant - Unbreakable: Wow. Didn’t see that coming. Or maybe I should have because I’m looking at what I’ve already written right now and…nope, it’s not there. I’d put this somewhere closer to the middle, maybe toward to top of the bottom third. - Jaws of Death: The album that made me realize what a doofus I’d been for writing off Primal Fear after their debut. …and yeah, Church of Blood is definitely the best song on the album. - Nuclear Fire: “Angel in…Blaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!!!” Until next video, - Craig
Glad to someone give PF some props, you rarely see anyone talk about them unless it's something negative like them being a Priest rip off which isn't very true but I will admit their first few albums had that Priest feeling but just because Ralph can hit those high notes doesn't mean he should be considered Halford clone, I mean seriously how many bands have been influenced by them amongst the other NWOBHM bands? You don't hear others unless it's a seldom about of individuals saying Metallica is a Motorhead rip off, it's just nonsensical.

Not bad. Definitely wouldn’t have had Unbreakable so high, I would swap it with Devils Ground, Devils Ground is really good, for me the early stuff is the best, especially the debut, Nuclear Fire and my favourite Black Sun. The last two are probably my least favourites
It was so obvious how desperately they tried to recreate Priest‘s Painkiller album, especially in their first 4 tries. And with Nuclear Fire they came closest. Really great power metal album, there‘s not a single song on this that‘s not an absolute banger. I also liked Black Sun very much but after that one, they lost me somewhere down the line. There were still some good tracks on their later albums but I always felt that there were fewer of them per album and even the best ones didn’t manage to recreate the same magic from Nuclear Fire. They definitely peaked in the early 2000s.

I think it's something for you, there is a sci-fi atmosphere of an early Scanner from Germany, inspired by the Swedish Enforcer, Steelwing and Ambush. I cannot listen to music or watch my favorite YT channels. I am devastated by what is happening beyond our eastern border. The new Hitler, together with his henchmen, is wreaking havoc and genocide on the people of Ukraine, raping our European order and our entire civilization in principle. Sad that we are powerless. I knew this band in 1999. I ended up seeing them with Halford, Immortal, Testament in 2003, saw them again in 2004 with Metal Church, Doro, Flotsam and Jetsam, Dismember, Seven Witches, and at Wacken Open Air 2011. They rock. 🤘🎸🇩🇪

They usually have 2-3 heavy hitters on their albums. I love the Randy Black era drumming. The Book of Seven Seals has a German book pressing, and its an actual book in German. Metal Commando is high on my list.Their early albums are the best IMO. I'm with you on same logo through out their cataloge. Klaus Sperling was their early drummer. I've seen them live 4 times. My favorite band over the last 25 yrs.

Albums I have yet to hear, didn’t even realize they released that many lol, I really enjoyed Metal Commando and the new ep indeed, maybe where it’s still fresh to my ears I probably give that one my top spot.

Great ranking Darcy I honestly don't know how I'd rank these primal fear albums. I do agree with your number#1 pick with Nuclear Fire and was the first primal fear album I heard when it came out in 2001. Keep it metal! 🤘

Awesome Primal Fear ranking, Darcy! I don't believe Primal Fear ever released a truly horrible album. You know what to expect and they deliver. I only have Rulebreaker, Delivering the Black and Apocalypse from them.
They do have a couple mediocre albums but overall you’re right , no real shit albums ! Try their newest one Metal Commando , I think you’ll like it ! Cheers Tony 🤘

I’ve not heard much Primal Fear but did grab Metal Commando a couple of weeks ago as it had a major drop in price. So far I like it, nothing that blew me away but pretty good overall. Need a couple more listens to it. Another interesting ranking Darcy!

The Lost and Forgotten track off of Metal Commando is a really killer track and deserved mention for sure imo.
Your not going to believe me but I listened to Metal Commando yesterday, that was one of the tracks that stuck out! Great song & Along Came The Devil has some cheesy lyrics but I love it! So...Primal Fear, hell yeah, one of my favorite bands. Let the real-time commenting commence!
- The "not going to be album of the year" comment: Bite your tongue, sir, for Metal Commando was indeed my 2020 Album of the Year. At least...I think it was. Was it? Sure, let's just go w/ that.
- 16.6: Yeah, this is my second least favorite. Some strong tracks--because all Primal Fear albums have 'em--but kinda forgettable and not an album I go back to.
- Apocalypse: Didn't care for this one and it's my...idunno, maybe third to last. Sounded weirdly modern and Five-Finger-Death-Punchy in places. This is not a good thing. However, I do *really* like a couple of tracks on here, especially The Ritual.
- Devil's Ground: I love this freakin' album and it's a lot closer to the top of my (mostly nonexistent) personal list. Colony 13 is my favorite "hidden gem" Primal Fear song. Also, I've used this album as part of an elaborate prank on my family. 1) Wake up earlier than family on the weekend, 2) turn on a Bluetooth speaker, preferably one of those super loud Bose ones and crank the volume, 3) place/hide somewhere in living room, 4) pretend to go back to sleep, 5) wait for rest of family to go to living room, 6) blast METAL IS FOREVAHHHHH!!! (forevah...forevah...), 7) prepare for swift and severe backlash.
- Seven Seals: Here's where I run into trouble when making my own list. To me, this album exists in the nebulous middle of their catalog in terms of quality where everything is great but we're not quite in classic territory. I also like the almost "melodeath" vibe to some of the songs--Evil Spell has kind of an At the Gates/In Flames thing going on which is really cool. You still haven't gotten to what I consider to be clearly the worst Primal Fear album, which is interesting.
- New Religion: Lol...oops, I spoke too soon. New Religion is hands down my least favorite Primal Fear album. This is the fun part of real-time commenting! There are a couple of really good tunes in the form of Sign of Fear and Face the Emptiness (which sounds suspiciously like a rehash of Rollercoaster from Seven Seals) but there's just so much filler on this album.
- Metal Commando: See above. No filler on this one. One of my fave Primal Fear albums and Infinity is one of my favorite Primal Fear songs.
- Rulebreaker: Yeah, that’s about right. Angels of Mercy, The End is Near, so many great tunes. …and don’t sleep on the randomly awesome bonus track Final Call. It’s one of those rare occasions where a bonus track is as good as or better than a lot of the material that made it onto the album.
- Black Sun: My actual favorite Primal Fear album of all time and one of my favorite albums of the 00’s. No bad songs. Hell…no OKAY songs. Rules from start to epic finish. How this isn’t considered a classic I don’t know.
- Delivering the Black: 100% agree with everything you said. Also, what the hell is an Inseminoid?!
- Primal Fear: Didn’t like it (or even the band) initially, love it now obviously. Something about the guitar tone bothered me but after a fashion, it became a “feature, not a bug” so to speak. Oh yeah, Dollars is brilliant
- Unbreakable: Wow. Didn’t see that coming. Or maybe I should have because I’m looking at what I’ve already written right now and…nope, it’s not there. I’d put this somewhere closer to the middle, maybe toward to top of the bottom third.
- Jaws of Death: The album that made me realize what a doofus I’d been for writing off Primal Fear after their debut. …and yeah, Church of Blood is definitely the best song on the album.
- Nuclear Fire: “Angel in…Blaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaack!!!”

Glad to someone give PF some props, you rarely see anyone talk about them unless it's something negative like them being a Priest rip off which isn't very true but I will admit their first few albums had that Priest feeling but just because Ralph can hit those high notes doesn't mean he should be considered Halford clone, I mean seriously how many bands have been influenced by them amongst the other NWOBHM bands? You don't hear others unless it's a seldom about of individuals saying Metallica is a Motorhead rip off, it's just nonsensical.

Not bad. Definitely wouldn’t have had Unbreakable so high, I would swap it with Devils Ground, Devils Ground is really good, for me the early stuff is the best, especially the debut, Nuclear Fire and my favourite Black Sun. The last two are probably my least favourites

It was so obvious how desperately they tried to recreate Priest‘s Painkiller album, especially in their first 4 tries.
And with Nuclear Fire they came closest.
Really great power metal album, there‘s not a single song on this that‘s not an absolute banger. I also liked Black Sun very much but after that one, they lost me somewhere down the line.
There were still some good tracks on their later albums but I always felt that there were fewer of them per album and even the best ones didn’t manage to recreate the same magic from Nuclear Fire.
They definitely peaked in the early 2000s.

Hey Darcy. I recommend you the AQUILLA album entitled "Mankind's Odyssey", which was released at the end of February on Ossuary Records. I think it's something for you, there is a sci-fi atmosphere of an early Scanner from Germany, inspired by the Swedish Enforcer, Steelwing and Ambush.
I cannot listen to music or watch my favorite YT channels. I am devastated by what is happening beyond our eastern border.
