I do not like the flexible risers especially for the generator end. They provide no support for the rigid piping so it ends up flopping around. Those stab couplings never, ever leak unless installed incorrectly and that is hard to do.
Thank you. Yes I was bouncing this idea off my wife about 7 months ago she said how many times do we lose power and for only a day or so! Then In beginning of March we had this Ice storm. Almost 4 days we were on the portable Generator. I told her that’s it! 😂 if something was to happen to me she would not know how to start it or back-feed the panel safely.
Can i install my own generator even though I’m not a contractor? Im a licensed hvac-R, and i work on a hospital environment, i know how to do gas line, electrical work and electronics, can i apply for a permit on my own home without contracting outside work? I have been installing gas furnaces, residential boilers, wiring outdoor units to breaker box before i worked in the hospital here SE Mi.
Your going to wish you installed that generator away from your deck and I let my generator run for three days with no problems never shut it down once in my area power outage is not uncommon I have one once a year it’s been 12 years since I installed mine still running great so it should last a good long time.
@@ADVANHVAC should handle an AC no problem, 2 2.5 ton ACS it should work as long as the ATS IS 200+ amps. ACS use a lot of amperage when starting, but afterwards it drops off. The generator can handle it.
In canada, they won’t let us use close nipples , scared over time there’s not enough steel meat . And they make us air test every underground line , inspector to witness , and pull an underground gas permit and pull and appliance gas permit for the initial start up as well ..
How much Trudeau Carbon Tax do you have to pay for the Generator? Canadian's better wake up and get rid of him before he completely destroys the country.....
A shoulder nipple is preferred only use a close if you have to, and that is usually the fault of the installer not planning well enough in advance. Sometimes it just has to be.
Did YOU read the instructions? If you did it would tell you how far the tubing is to be pushed in to the fitting, then mark the outside to how far it is to be PUSHED on !!!
What is the delivery pressure of the standard gas meter in MI? Based upon what I’m seeing, you either have internal regulators for your gas appliances or you are running the risk of fuel starvation in an outage. Here in Texas, most residential gas regulators are 4oz regulators, meaning the pressure you are getting at meter is only 4oz, and that regulated pressure isn’t going to deliver sufficient BTU load for the max BTU of that genset. EVER. Obviously, you will be more likely to have a winter outage in Michigan than the hurricane outages we have on the Gulf Coast. One of the worst things I see in most gen installations is insufficient gas pressure. Lots of times the techs that go to your house will do everything possible to get the gen running.,,which it will. But for how long. Not trying to be difficult but I’m wondering if 2psi regulator from the service line with a 4oz regulator for house line might not be better idea…
@@herewegoagain4041 it comes down to pressure and volume. Here in Texas, the standard residential gas meter comes with 4oz of delivery pressure and the regulator has a 7 inch water column. It is a mathematical equation as to the cubic feet or BTU load it will deliver. If the Gen is not receiving sufficient pressure it won’t run. Further if there is an insufficient volume of gas coming in, you will experience myriad possible failures and/or alarm codes from the genset. Simply…without enough gas the engine doesn’t run correctly. Based upon the single regulator depicted on the outside of the residence….this Gen is probably only getting 1/4 psig or 4 oz. So the gas is probably insufficient to run the generator
I had a 22kw Generac unit installed 2 yrs ago. Good unit. I changed the oil/filter late summer of 2024.
I'm lucky and have electrical contractor take care of the oil changes for me.
I have a 45k Generac using LP. The home is entirely electric, and having a generator definitely adds peace of mind.
Yes it definitely is.
Holy crap. What's your 24hr cost for fuel during an outage?
You can't put a cost on peace of mind. Also the cost of losing everything in your freezer would probably cost more 😬
I just realized your working in my hometown and ive even been to your house and serviced that water feature before. Crazy world
Small world, LWLS redid the pond to a pondless water fall. I have a Video out on it.
Good video. I prefer the flexible risers for the gas to avoid underground connections on fittings.

@nspro931 this was a first for me on the flexible ones. I drove a 5’ unistrut down for support. It's not going anywhere.
I installed one on my house last year. Good investment. Good video

Ive been an electrician for over 37 years and never seen someone cut wire with a bandsaw. First time for everything I guess.

@@ClayAdams-zj8yf best way to cut fiber optic wire as well. Learned that at AT&T
Use what you got handy.
Probably would be better to mark the tubing so you could confirm how far on the fittings went.
You can feel when it stops.
Yes. Read some accident investigations and they were looking for marks.
Same Generac I got running on a 250 gallon (At 82% full). I get depending on load usage around 4 days to a tank.
Good to know. Thanks for sharing that info!
Locally we have been told not to use galvanize pipe for gas, black only. Any thoughts?
Every jurisdiction is different.
I cringed when I saw all those shaving going down the main line you installed to the Generac. I would have also put anti-seize on the union threads.
You should use a permeant marker and mark the stab depth of the fitting so you KNOW it is in deep enough.
Good setup
Thank! you!
6:57 Aluminum Rigid Offset wrenches are your friend, invest in a 14" and 18'.
Thanks just got a crescent and Rigid delivered today from home depot. Thank you for the suggestion.
@@ADVANHVAC Your welcome you will love them, they put the correct angle for leverage.
Could you have used black iron pipe and spray painted it for your above ground connections?
Yes I could have, If using Propane definitely use Black pipe.
I use black pipe on mine. Yeah you definitely have to paint it.
Never use galvanized piping on a gas line. Use black fittings, then prime & paint to prevent corrosion
Good video

Yes, I believe you can you can pull your own permit as a homeowner.
@@ADVANHVAC thanks ill try that hope it works as a home owner, the inspector can check my work anyways😂
In my area you are supposed to pressure test with air for 20min.
In other areas that is a fact. That's why I turned on the gas a leak checked everything well with big blue.
@@ADVANHVAC A pressure test is not done with natural gas pressure...too low. You need a pressure test with a 30lb gauge @ 15lb for 30 minutes.
Did u have to install a regulator on the gas line
No.
Ist it posible to use the Heat of the exhaust to Heat a hot water boiler
No, it doesn’t get that hot.

You should be using black iron or paint the pipe and fittings
Why does the Gas company use Galvanized and not black? Why is either the code here in Michigan?
Will it run 2 air conditioners?
That depends on the sizes, It should. The next size up is either a 24 or a 26kw that would definitely run 2 ac’s.

Drip leg is already in the unit.. would of been better to put flex risers at meter and hard at generator, that one of eliminated having to do u strut
I would rather do it the way I did. Not a big deal with the uni-strut.

Stop telling them your business.

Uhhh I was told NG required Black Pipe, NOT Galvanized
Just depends on your local area, they accept it here no problem. Can’t use galvanized with propane.

i would have a generac generator with wifi.
That’s what this has.

Why are YOU YELLING? thanks for watching!
I always love watching videos of professionals. So it is safe to say that he does not do it for free.
A portable generator has to be 10 Ft away from the house, generac doesn't.
So thick
Just anyone can’t do this have to be licensed gas fitter and has to be leaked tested with high pressure air through using an air test gauge..
If you're doing it on your property and have any mechanical skills, yes, you can do it.
Looks like a pain. Convert the meter to high pressure and run 5/8 copper
That would not make sense, I would have to add regulators to all of my other gas appliances. I had to do that once at a customer's house.
