Mosaic Crochet Purse - Full Tutorial

  • Here I show you how to make my Mosaic Purse pattern from start to finish. The best part about this pattern is the fact that we work the purse straight onto the zipper, sewing the first round straight on the zipper, and so we get the "finishing" over with right at the start! Here I show you how to make a mosaic purse using the Apache Tear pattern, but the pattern comes with a zig zag version too, and you can also just use any mosaic pattern you like to decorate your purse! I sure hope you guys have as much fun with these purses as I have, they make such a cute gift and are a great little project to have on the go!
Mosaic purse pattern is available in my Ravelry store:
    www.ravelry.com/patterns/sour...
you will also find me on instagram as @tinnahekl
and if you need any further assistance with my patterns, or just want to show off your beautiful makes made with my designs, please consider joining in on the fun in my Facebook group!

This is so fabulous! I absolutely love finding tutorials that really stand out, and this one does. Thank you for sharing! I love doing this kind of crochet, even though I am a knitter and spinner mostly. But this kind of crochet pattern made me want to learn to crochet.

I have been glued to my I pad for over an hour watching this and I have to start making dinner now but I have to tell you: 1) I am definitely going to attempt this, 2) you are a brilliant teacher, 3) the pace and length are just fine, and 4) I realized there haven’t been any ads. Maybe there were at the very beginning but I don’t even think you had that. You crazy? Make some compensation! This was a lot of work.

Well I bought 6 different colours of this yarn but now that I've begun, I realize it's too thin 😭. I think I might try to double it, what a nightmare. I can't afford to buy more of this yarn as I'm looking at probably $50 off etsy.

I was hit by a truck in 84And I just started losing my techniques and such so I started teaching hand quilting at the senior center I did it for years I stopped teaching and then I started losing my memories oh how did you things I forgot my crochet stitches I started watching tutorial so that I would remember that again It's hard when you get brain damage No matter what anybody says oh you The memory you lose you'll get it back don't worry about falling off a bike yeah sure So I appreciate you doing these tutorials I did remember the change that So now I remembered the change stitch and that snowflakes only have 6 prongs and all sorts of things but I used to make beat it snowflakes and now I can't remember how to do it I'm frustrated but thank you for the time you take in your tutorial I don't care if it takes a long time I can go at my rate because you do not go very fast and your grandmother she taught you now you teach us and guess what I am 67 now so it's like being in kindergarten for the 1st time

I have no idea or clue how you suddenly out of nowhere popped up on my thread but honestly I am beyond thrilled that you did. I am extremely “ visually oriented “ so your opening video captured me completely. I live in Alaska so the visuals here are incredible ( yep I get to see Denali ( most unfortunately know it as Mt McKinley ) for free all the time lol ) - but what caught me almost to the point of being breathless was seeing your Afghan/blanket that you wore. That for me personally is the most majestic and stunningly beautiful crochet work I have ever seen and in my 71 years on this earth I have seen many.
I love your giggle and your references to your G’ma I absolutely love it. Your zipper clutch/ purse pattern is just too fabulous so needless to say I’m going to give it a shot.
Oh and I love your teaching technique- you rock Girl!!!
    warm hugs from Anchorage Alaska

I made a purse and a little bag for a Christmas gift. The purse took me three days to crochet in the zipper. The little bag I made then sewed the zipper in. Yesterday my mom said she saw where someone ran a stitch around the zipper and crocheted around that. I wonder if it was you she saw. I found you today and will be making a lot of bags now. I wanted to sell mine but never liked the closures I tried, now I don't have any excuses. THANK YOU for the help!!!!! I love your enthusiasm!!! I don't know many people who giggle as much as I do. God bless you!!! Merry Christmas!!!!!!

Am I the only one who dances to the intro music?!?! 💃🕺 What a fantastic surprise!!! Seeing you just made my night!! 💕💕💕 What a coincidence... I just stocked up on zippers 😉 Unfortunately, my thrift store doesn't usually have zippers. I do already have this pattern. I've made one. My issue was that the zipper area seemed to be wider than the rest of my little purse. Kind of like it flared out at the zipper. Of course I still use it! But I'd like to figure out how to stop that from happening. I just love your energy and laugh. You seemed extra giggly this time. 😂🤣 I catch myself answering you or talking to you during your videos. I talk to myself quite often too 🤣😂 You are just too funny!! I can go on and on, but I'll stop here 😂🤣 Please keep adding videos... we all enjoy your company so much Tinna 💕💕

if you cannot find zippers at the thrift store... check out the clothing in the children's area (to get the smaller size) and see if there aren't some on the mark down section... also look for nice buttons on clothing... buttons get expensive for the nicer ones... One more thing... check out yard sales too... clothing is less expensive there...

For what it's worth, I'm not here for thrilling content, I'm here for relaxing informative content that I can link to my mom and then she shows up with the mosaic tutorial piece the next day.
I've found it helps a lot to prevent tangling with normal embroidery floss to keep a finger (usually my little finger) near the stitching and loop the floss around it as it pulls through. It doesn't prevent tangling at the fabric level, but it does reduce it and make it easier to fix. I don't know if that works with the way you need to hold the zipper for this project, but I figure the tip might help somebody.

I have been looking for projects I can do while recovering from my second surgery in a year. Thank you for not only inspiring me , but giving me the opportunity to step out of my comfort zone by teaching in a calm, slow manner. I am now a fan ! I save bits of zips after sewing my bags and will be practicing, practicing , practicing.
    Thank you again!

Tina, you are the best in this field. You’re always explaining as you are doing your stitches and make it understandable. Thank you for taking your valuable time in teaching us this beautiful technique. I love mosaic crochet and that’s all I do anymore.

Tina I loved your demonstration. I’ve never done mosaic crochet, but my friend who has bought so many of your patterns told me about you. I haven’t tried anything yet, but I think the zippered purse might be the first project I try. You are a delight to watch and listen to. Thank you for your creativity.

I learned to knit and crochet by my grandma and my aunt ( who both lived together with us in one tiny house.) And it was a good time for me as a little girl. Maybe one of the most happy times in my life.
And like you my aunt used to say: Langes Fädchen, faules Mädchen ( german) that means: long little thread, lazy tiny girl. Nevertheless I am lazy and prefer long threads and sometimes get a mess with my thread.
thank you for your videos full of colours and good mood and beautiful work. you even make grey rainy days colourful.

I had gotten away from crocheting, I lost my incentive after a year and a 1/2 of being isolated because of covid. But after accidentally coming across your tutorial, it has inspired me to start crocheting again. Thank you so much for your positivity, good humor and being so down-to-earth. So excited to get started. I am upstairs now, searching through my colors. Will get some zippers and start making some small to med size purses for holiday gifts. 🥰

Ah Tinna - you've so cheered me up on a day where I needed it. I've had to let my customers down by cancelling an event I've been preparing for for a few weeks.
It was so calming to watch your video. I've even ordered some metal zippers and probably will order a set of embroidery kneedles too! I already crochet but this is new to me so I'm excited to try xxx

Lisa R writing : I love your designs ! I primarily am a knitter , but I love crochet also . The lack of really great patterns / projects in crochet is why I think I knit so much more . Finding your podcast & patterns has been so much fun! Thank you !! I didn't realize you published a book - need to go check if it's available ♥️♥️♥️

Just finished watching and I must say YOU ARE SO WONDERFUL TO WATCH. You are through with your explanations and teachings of how to make this little purse. Your laugh is infectious. I bout some zippers from a thrift store a year or so ago not knowing what I was going to do with them. Now i do. They are bigger than the ones you are working with in the video, but that's usually how I roll. Go big or go home lol. Thank you for this video. Now to go find my zippers and cotton yarn. 😀

I said I'd give this tutorial a quick look before I work out my colourways for a gorgeous box of yarn I got. I'm so excited and confident already just watching you, so thank you for everything. Fingers crossed I'll stay confident 😅 A big admirer of your art and skill and very appreciative of your time to share it with us ❤

I’m a new subscriber. I’ve been crocheting for a while but I’ve just found you and mosaic crochet. You make it seem so easy to follow along and understand. The hardest part for me is matching up colors. I’ve had to restart several times and they are never as beautiful as yours. Maybe you can do a video for us less artistic people about that. Thanks for the tutorials!
