played with Nicky from '98 -'01 here in Ireland. Pubs, clubs and biker festivals.....An absolutely jaw dropping performer, real deal and a powerhouse keys player and vocalist. She could belt out the lyrics, do incredible keys solos and play funky bass lines with her left hand all at the same time. And she drove everybody playing with her on, you would always be digging deep on a gig with her. Don't know where she is now unfortunately but very fond memories of the road trips. A true rocker. A rare gem. Tornado of a talent.

You were so priviledged to have played with her ! I recently discovered her in The Fanny band and I went jaw dropped to her immense talent both vocals and as a piano player , as a songwriter She could have been a super star , it"s that the industry didn't know how to manage her . Did you lose contact with her ? I would be so happy to come across to her by chance and thank her personally for all the inspiration she gave me . Love Nickey Barclay a true genius ! ❤️

@@alicedebuhr6457 recently, I’ve been hooked on the early 70’s videos of Fanny performances. I’m so glad that the people who were filming caught all four of you performing and didn’t just focus on whoever was singing lead. The amount of talent you guys packed into that band is outrageous. Also, I’m a huge fan of your playing; those super tight fills that lead into guitar or keyboard solos or into the outro’s just make the songs explode. I wish I could have seen your band live.

      Well meh, not really.
The girls vs the boys club crap has been over played when it comes to fanny.
The main reason why Nikki never really caught on, was simply because first off she didn't even want to be in Fanny.
You see by the time she got to Fanny she was already a well-composed and accomplished musician that had worked with many of the major stars of the 60's.
Even while in Fanny she was still doing some work for others.
And don't think of her is arrogant.
Okay so in a lot of professions but particularly in music if you reach a certain level and you work with certain people, sure it's definitely fun to go start some sort of side project but to die full force into it and take it super seriously is pretty much a death sentence.
She really had no choice because Fanny was paying the bills at the time that's the only real reason she stuck around.
I don't think it was just her and I would say that the entire act of Fanny that was very good and Nikki came to totally see that.
And she definitely knows that they had something and I'm not going to say that she thought that the other musicians was below her an asshole sex it was compared to where she had been working it was kind of like going back to the garage band.
So as I started to say I would say that the whole situation was not just her but Fanny would simply be that music was changing at the time it wasn't that they got shut down because of the boys club it was simply a lot of bands that were on the heavy side of rock and roll got shoved out.
Because the softer sounds of the California groups started to really make headway, I mean it's like this you got to figure by their second or third album The eagles was already pretty well known.
I mean Black Sabbath couldn't even really stand up to the softer sounds that were coming out of California even led Zeppelin had noticed a difference I mean though these bands made money they definitely two were they had an audience they weren't out on the ass but you also have to understand that by that time most of these groups were well established whereas Fanny was new to the game!
But I will say that I do agree with some of the band members when they say that the advertising department certainly don't know how to market them I can say that maybe there was a marketing issue but that's just reallypromotion if the headlining for bigger acts than they are then technically they would have picked up steam which they did I mean make no mistake all of these women were able to pretty much retire out of the group The only real reason why the drummer had to go back to work was because she developed a fucking cocaine problem!

@@RedRetard-m8u with all due respect, I don't think you know what you're talking about. A step back to a garage band?? Ummm, no. Fanny was a hell of a good band. David Bowie adored them, as did some somewhat successful guys known as Beatles. Fanny had the same problem as a lot of bands - record labels that didn't really know how to promote them. Rather than concentrate on the fact that they were all consummate musicians, they flogged the "all girl band" angle, and that was when they bothered to promote them at all.
Later, during the Rock And Roll Survivors period, the label decided that they needed to really glam up the image but they still didn't really give them much in the way of tour support and they still pushed the whole "all girl" bit, rather than say much of anything about MUSIC.

Words can't describe the power, soul, style, intensity, playfulness, sensuality, professionalism, creativity and incredible talent that is Nickey Barclay. She is unmatched in what she does. The same can be said in many ways for each member of Fanny. Truly remarkable and a shame they weren't better managed. I feel there were also some internal strife that derailed the greatness that might have been. I am just grateful and thankful that fate brought these incredible women together for the time we had them, and I will replay their music forever.

This is fantastic. I came here because I just watched the documentary about Fanny on PBS. I had heard of the band but didn't know very much about them until now. Really amazing band and I'm glad they have been getting some well deserved attention recently. From some of the brief performance the clips I saw, Nickey was a huge part of the band's power. Both as a singer and keyboard player. I was sort of confused as to why there were no interviews with her in the film, then at the end they indicated she didn't want any involvement with the band. Can anyone shed any light on this? Anyway Nickey, if you or your friends are reading this comment, from one musician to another, you have a new fan!!

@Ethergirl, Nickey has retired from music, and is content with her life without Fanny muddying it up. She used to have quite strong feelings about her time in Fanny. We had the usual band personality conflicts, but when we were on stage, or in the studio, we were all there 100%, and Nickey is proud of the music we created. She's just "done" with it. I will respect her privacy and protect it as long as I live. Do I miss her? You're damn right I do! I'd love more than anything to tell her how much I respected her talents all these many years ago. Absolutely brilliant. What a voice! And to be fair - what a band.
I don’t know whether this is the band on the recordings but pretty likely.
If memory serves (and it was a long time ago!) the guitarist was Dave Ball (ex Procol Harum), Keyboards was Lou Martin and Drums (I think) Wilgar Cambell (both ex of Rory Gallagher’s band). Bassist was Nickey’s partner I think but can’t remember his name (so apologies there).
