    Strongly encourage all here to check out "The Right to Rock," a PBS documentary about Fanny released in 2023. Great live footage. Just saw it again today. Awesome.

    There's not one bad song on this album, from start to finish, one timeless song after the other.....this is a fantastic album by an exceptional band! The quality of songwriting is off the charts. The creativity and attention to detail plus that incredible energy....love it! Their live performances are even better......one kickass band.

    The comment below says it all abour this group.
    They are a superb group of musicians and it serms that a huge number of music fans missed them when they were still recording with the original strongest line up
    I love the live clips from Beat Club and Old Grey Whistle Test.
    Very strong performances and superb that we can watch this incredible band .

    Incredible band. Great players and proper musical chemistry, meaning they play completely as one single unit. Fab songs and great harmony vocals.

    Having been a teenager in the early 1970s, I can tell you why Fanny never became major stars: their records were never played on the radio, and they seldom if ever opened for a major rock band in New York. Which is a shame, because these chicks rock.

      I just found them today. i've noticed some fanny on my youtube suggetions for about a week; but, I'd click other stuff.
      I grew up finding my father's John Mayall, and through him, I found Peter Green Fleetwood Mac. I've pretty much gone through the blues all the way down to Sylvester Weaver. I mean I find all kinds of obscure musicians; i'm surprised I never heard of, or seen Fanny till now!

    My mother was a fan of Fanny Hill, and I grew up listening to this amazing album in the 80s along with other great women musicians. I still have this album and play it often. One of the greatest bands and perhaps most influential. Amazing singers, song writers, musicians, performers. Timeless sound and lyrics, and voices and message.

      You know like when you grew up on an album (eg Eric Clapton's Journeyman) then, years later, someone plays you August - But it means nothing...

      Well Tommy, I guess you were listening to the wrong Band's / LP's. From the 70's through to the 90's I'd be mighty pissed off, if there was ONE song on an album I didn't like. This is a great album but at the time, it was just another great album.... Had it when it was released and still listen to it regularly.... Ditto about a hundred other's..... Take a listen to FIRST BASE by BABE RUTH....

    I was a huge Fanny fan in the early Seventies. I remember I had a friend who ABSOLUTELY refused to believe that they were actually playing the instruments because "chicks can't play rock music." They were way ahead of their time: rock-playing biracial girls!!!

    • @slimshine953
      @slimshine953 9 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +Richard Harris Biracial? You mean because the two sisters were from the Philippines, and the other two were white Americans?

    • @richardharris8867
      @richardharris8867 9 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      +slimshine953 No, Jean and June Millington have a filipina mom and a US white dad (from Vermont); thus biracial...

      Why you found it necessary to mention their ethnicity is a total mystery to me. ...

    • @richardharris8867
      @richardharris8867 8 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      because it is part of who they are and what there music was and how revolutionary they were in the white male dominated world of Rock.

    • @cycoklr
      @cycoklr 7 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      If I may jump in, Fanny Hill broke barriers in the '70s. It was at the height of the Vietnam war, and American sentiments in certain areas at that particular point in time were not friendly to "others" specially Asian-looking persons. June(lead) and Jean(bass) Millington are sisters known to be Asian-Americans who played cutting-edge rock, which was the domain of white boys. Their ethnicity adds an element of surprise to the quality and genre of the music they produced. They performed way beyond prejudiced expectations of their era. Which was probably one reason -in my humble opinion- they did not become a mainstream commercial success. I wish Ludo Vica can see read this too. Peace...

      The Millington sisters are from Manila, where I currently live. Didn't know that when I bought this album and only remembered them after hearing Hey Bulldog track on a film earlier today. Turned off the film and came here to relive their version which was, IMHO, the best version. In their genre they were brilliant and certainly deserved wider recognition, but hey ho, they live on in our memories. angus, Manila.

    I have absolutely no idea how this band passed me by except I was 10 when they were on The Old Grey Whistle Test and the BBC had it on late in the evening. Plus my dad did not like rock!!!
    What a superb band they are. Well constructed tunes and like nothing else.
    The dual vocals on some of the tracks really add to the performance and the fact that all four of them did support vocals again added real melody to the songs.
    Only the one song on this album I found a tad weak, but hey how many albums had so many good songs as this groups? Very few, even from my favourite bands.
    Live on Beat Box etc. they are such a good unit of musicians.
    The band had success but maybe they got worn out as many bands particularly in the early 70's were picked up and promoted by the record labels and then discarded as something more fashionable came along.
    Very few bands were able to keep their labels interested. Sometimes it was changes in the labels management, takeovers, fashions, the band themselves losing focus.
    However in their hey day this band were very strong and great musicians.
    I also do not buy the fact they did not make it because they were girls, even if they were pioneering to get a record contract as a female "rock" quarter, as many other women were getting rid of stereotypes. Suzi Quatro (also American) being one. Maybe in the UK and Europe we were more receptive than in America, I have no idea.
    The key is that their music has stood the test of time. No greater compliment can be made.

    Wow, their work really holds up. Great musicians and bring their talent to covers that make them better. Very unapologetic and all-out. Their selection of songs is interesting. Not afraid to choose what they want to play, not just the most popular of the day. They're diverse, have range and demand to be heard, and I think I'm addicted. How I missed them the first time around... I'm just sorry. Better late than never I suppose.

    Wow, this is excellent. I had heard of this group, but never heard them. This album really holds up well after 40+ years. Thanks for the upload!

    Just want to reiterate what others have been saying. Thank you for sharing this album here. I have just enjoyed a forty minute bash with the girls after seeing a smidgen of them on BBC4 tonight 'Girl in a Band'. I also have this LP, but no longer have a record player, so this was a real treat. Thanks again..... Oops! not Max, but Dorothy on Max's account....

    Great band, great harmony's . Wonder what happened to the Millington sisters. Remember seeing them at Bracknell in the UK, they were even better live !

      ***** Hi Steve. Jean married David Bowie's guitarist, Earl Slick and raised a family. Her son is in the music industry. June is co-founder and head of the IMA, the Institute for Musical Arts in Goshen Massachusetts - where she teaches and still rocks. Her autobiography was just released... it's a great read!

      They just released a new album under a new alias: Fanny Walked the Earth, and I read in an article they're planning a musical and a documentary is said to be coming out about them as well.

      I saw them play a gig in Los Angeles a few years ago. June is a beastly guitarist these days.
