Back in the 80s 90s, my brothers and I had a classic rock band out of Providence RI, and we would open up for different bands. One day it was Rick Derringer, at a club called the Island House, anyway he had blown his Marshall the night before in New York and our manager asked me if he could use mine, of course this guys my guitar hero since I was a kid, so we do our set and then Rick did his set with bass and drummer, he was sounding great, after the show my brothers and I, asked him if he would sign my amp, and he did a great job with a sharpie and dated 91. Then we asked about working with Steely Dan and when was he going to be playing with the Winter brothers again? He was so nice and was great to meet him and talk to him, a good guy and great musician! Should definitely be in the Rock and Roll hall of fame!

I saw Rick play a biker bar in Bellview,FL about 10 years ago. No equipment,rented Strat and a Tweed Peavey. He was fantastic, amazing guitarist. Crowd went wild over R R Hoochie. I got to hang out with him after the show as he was waiting to get paid. Nice guy signed autographs for anyone that asked. It was great to see and meet one of my guitar heroes.

always big Johnny Winter fan went to see him every time he came to boston , saw Rick with Johnny many times . Their guitar back and forth jaming was epic , anyone who can keep up with Johnny has to be one of the best ever, Rick more than held his own . These were some of my best musical memories !!!

U got it right, grew up in LA and saw Rick with Johnny many times. They both rocked every time!
I saw the Derringer band at central park in NYC after the Derringer album came out, around ‘75 I think. Rick played the split headstock Explorer and Danny Johnson played a single cut Les Paul Special with the TV finish, both thru two Marshall stacks, Kenny Arronson on bass and Carmine Appice on drums, great show, Nils Lofgren opened. Derringer played David Bowie’s Rebel, Rebel for their encore. What a great show. The Explorer copy that Rick played with Edgar Winter was made by Charlie LoBue at a shop called the Guitar Lab in Manhattan. He’s pictured with it on the cover of an issue of Guitar Player magazine, in the piece he talks about the guitar. Charlie told me the body was from an old fireplace mantle that was reclaimed from an old house in New England, he also made a double neck 6-12 from the same piece of wood, I got to check out that 6-12 one time. 🇺🇸👮🏻♂️🎸
I couldn't agree with you more! He's as good an Axeman as anybody, plus a writer, producer etc. Somehow general public wise at least he hasn't received the due credit. Neither has Johnny though in that respect. It's weird.
July 23 & 24 1977 I saw Rick open for Led Zeppelin at the Oakland coliseum. He was supporting his recently released album Derringer Live with Vinnie Appice, Kenny Aronson, & Danny Johnson. It was a great performance I wil never forget.
That is the same band he had when I saw him...they blew me away! Thanks for watching!

@@Scorpio1060- Winterland! It was about the only reason to drive up to the city. Saw so many shows there. Seemed like Elvin Bishop and Hot Tuna played there every month. First show I ever saw was The Who in 67 at the Cow Palace (Mom had to drive us) with them smashing everything on stage. That and both Led Zep visits really stand out in my memories. Zep day on the green, I was with a beautiful girl I was so in love with. Derringer was on stage when we arrived. But she got us right up front and center. Debbie I hope you are still with us and having a good life!
My band opened for Johnny Winter in ‘92 at a club in my town. He was touring behind the ‘ Let Me In’ album. We got to meet him. He invited us on his bus and we got photos with him. He was very gracious and thanked us for opening for him.
I met Rick at a guitar show in Nashville back around 20 years ago. He was promoting Warrior guitars and has a signature model, he handed me one and we jammed around together! Super nice down to earth guy! I'm very thankful that I actually got to jam with one of my guitar hero's!

I saw Rick at a Fair in Jacksonville about 15 yrs ago. About 30 people at the concert. I had a front row seat; it was like a personal concert by Rick.
I played on the bill with Rick at Supermegafest in 2010, Framingham MA. He was great, nice guy!
Saw Rick play in a former bowling alley turned night club in Ashland Massachusetts. Aerosmith played there John Kay from Stepinwoolf. Many other acts. Of cource I was quite intoxicated but the show was still great. Got to see Jonny Winter and meet him too many times to count in his camper or in the green room. I'm 67 not as old as Rick but I was DEFINITELY there during the Era of his fame...and all who came before and after! What a time for music...What a ride! Thanks for the memories! 👍🏻😉❤🎸

I saw Derringer in a small night club (El Tejon) in Madison WI in 1977. He had his “Derringer Live” line up with the exception of Danny Johnson, who had been replaced by Mark Johnson. Incredible show. He was playing a BC Rich Mockingbird, and using a Roland AP-7 Jet Phaser (liberally). I still think Derringer Live is the best live rock and roll album I have ever heard. I still listen to it frequently, and it brings me right back to that smoky little club in 77’. On a side note - some months later, I saw Danny Johnson with Axis in a small club around the corner. Another great show, and loved their debut album.

I have a personal story about Rick that is a great memory for me. Back in the ‘70s I had a local band Diamond and we played Rock and Roll Hoochie-Koo and Still Alive and Well in our live shows.
I have always been a huge Derringer fan and on August 12, 1977 Foreigner played the old Mary E. Sawyer Auditorium in my hometown of La Crosse, WI and Rick Derringer opened. I was disappointed because Danny Johnson and Vinnie Appice were no longer in the band but they were still good.
At any rate, at concerts I always gravitated toward the front of the house P.A. on one side or another for maximum sonic bombast.
So I’m sitting there on the railing and Foreigner is three or four songs into their set and up walks Rick Derringer. No one else around. Just Rick and I.
He hung out with me for Foreigner’s entire set just shooting the shit and telling stories and sharing guitar knowledge. Just me and Rick Derringer.
I’ll never forget it. Very nice guy and the best guitar player EVER!!!

I saw Rick in the late 70's. He was absolutely Great - especially his guitar solos. Met him backstage, and I suggested that he title his next album "The REAL McCoy". He was genuinely amused and said it was a Great idea.
I saw Rick in Raleigh NC at a biker bar around '91. I was a huge fan of him and Johnny and Edgar etcetc. Rick was maybe 5'5 but played like he was 7' dude blew my mind. Absolutely incredible chops, what a talent. Talked to him after, very cool, gracious dude.
Thanks for some background on how he replaced Ronnie Montrose. I seem to remember he was an early BC Rich user. That Johnny Winter And stuff was great.
I saw the McCoys open for the Rolling Stones in 1966 in Chicago and saw them again about a year later at the Devil's Lake pavilion in Michigan. Rick was amazing.
The McCoys, the Standels and the Tradewinds all opened for the Stones in Cleveland in the summer of 1966. The next time I saw the McCoys was at an after-prom party near Cleveland. The suits were gone and it was all rock and roll. They were excellent!

Rick slapped my hand as he left the stage in Germany in the early 90s on tour with Edgar. I thought he'd shake my hand but he was slapping our outreached hands as he walked by.

I saw Rick with Aerosmith ,Ted Nugent ,Black Oak Arkansas , and some other Bands at Legend Valley Outside Columbus at an all Day Concert with an few other Bands I can’t recall in 1976.
I saw him open for alice cooper in 76. He blew cooper of the stage. He was great. His sound was so good I still remember it. Played a scorching version of heater shelter. Played his explorer. Sounded so good.
I seen that tour. He just did his live album. Killer version of hoochi,koo.

I saw Rick many times in the 70's and early 80's. Great live shows. In the middle of his solo of "Beyond the Universe", he played "Somewhere Over the Rainbow ". He had skills and style.
i was in a little venue to see RIck Derringer . Im short and so is he i was waiting for him to go on and the whole time he was sitting beside me at the bar . He got up there and was great he was playing a BC Rich mockingbird it was at the Paradise rock club in Boston in 1979 80 or 81
Hang on Sloopy is probably the most erotic song ever to get by the censors. Our band used to cover it in 1965-66. I saw Rick play with Johnny Winter around 1970 at Providence College's basketball court. Rick would play this fantastic lead and then Johnny follow him, playing in double- time, so fast i couldn't even follow the notes. He was like a tornado. Absolutely fantastic concert.

He put on great shows when he was supporting the "Derringer" album. Watching him and Danny Johnson trade licks on the song, "Sweet Evil" was one of the most thriiling performnces I've ever see, and I've seen a lot!
Man that's a lot of money for a piece of history. Didn't Rick know that the Explorer didn't come with the 'V' headstock? It's funny he didn't equate what happened when he was a kid visiting the Gibson factory to the purchase of it later on.
My favorite album he played on is the Edgar Winter Group's 1972 release "They Only Come Out at Night." The album is a hidden musical gem and also featured Ronnie Montrose and Randy Jo Hobbs.

Not really "hidden". It reached No. 3 on Billboard, and it went gold and platinum. Everybody I knew had the album.
This is crazy. I live in Bradenton, Florida. Turns out my post office box was right next to Rick’s. Used to see him there few times per week. I don’t have the box there anymore.
I did album art for Shrapnel Records back in the 80's, and for a full 25 years. Mike Varney had a label for blues guitar called Blues Bureau. One of the many artists he recorded was Rick Derringer, a release called "Jack Hammer Blues," so I did all the album art and production of the CD booklet, same thing as I did for alot of famous guitar players he recorded. He did a lot of albums for famous players who weren't so famous and needed to make some money between their famous albums. Real quickie stuff and he didn't pay them very well and had contracts that made the artists pay for all the studio time and my time as well. I really respected Rick so put in extra effort to make the art look as pro level as I could, and I also wasn't paid very well, but was cool to have so many famous players in my portfolio. Guys like Leslie West, Larry Coryell, Steve Smith, Robben Ford, Pat Travers and many many more. I too, wonder where that guitar is today. Probably in some rich guy's bank vault, where so many old great Gibsons dissapeared to..... thanks for the video...

I saw Edgar Winter Group with Rick Derringer in 1975 in Chicago and he used the black Les Paul most of the show.
Hey RD! Brother, you hit a big one here! Did you know that "Hang On Sloopy" has been played by the Ohio State University Marching Band at every game since it came out in the '60s? The McCoys were the "Home Town Boys Make Good" story that will never die! My High School Marching Band in Central Ohio used to play Sloopy a lot back in the day too! Loved the video my friend! The Johnny Winter And album was what I cut my teeth on as a young guitar player. Rick and Johnny were great together.
Incredible how his guitar playing evolved year after year like fine wine.
He now is one of the best there is. And those years with Edgar in one of the greatest bands ever were iconic. He is also one of the nicest unpretentious rock stars.
I saw where Les Paul said he was "mediocre". I couldnt believe it. To me, he's as good or better than Eddie, or anybody that has been out there.
Ohhh yeah...I saw Derringer at Radio City Music Hall in NYC in '75 or '76 with Kenny Aaronson on bass. One of the most electrifying Rock n Roll shows I've ever seen. They were amazing.

Thats when he was supporting the "Derringer" album, and thats the name of the band. The CD is great, but nothing like them playing it live!
I saw Rick Derringer, Johnny and Edger Winter in NYC at the Filmore East. I was a young teenager and snuck into the city on the train. Great concert.
I saw Rick open for Santana in the late 70's. The show was at Wing's Stadium in Kalamazoo. He performed tunes from All American Boy. It was great. Of course, Santan was wonderful too. But the most amazing thing happened at the show. Santana called Rick out to jam with him on the encore. It was over the top. That's when I really found out just how good Rick's playing is. Needless to say....if Carlos is bringing you out for the encore you are a very special musician and soul mate. It was a blessing to see and hear.
Saw Rick at the Fillmore in NYC with Johnny Winter. Blew my mind. That first studio album was the genius. I STILL listen to that same vinyl record. Rick's Rhythm guitar parts knocked me out. Not to mention his lead guitar and how well he meshed with Johnny. Rick has been a life long guitar hero of mine.
I seen rick back in oh shoot! around 81,82. He used to come back to union city 9nce a year and put in a free show. Two of my guitar teachers played too. The first benny joe Phillips played in Rick's backup band first time I seen rick. He had local good musicians join him as his band. Second my guitar teacher the late brian Kettering opend with his band. Good time for sure. Have not seen rick since. Sure wish I had. Great near home town hero. Hochie kooh. Has a verse about the home town ball. I believe that is a small mention of the crystal ball. A nightclub just a couple miles west of my home town Versailles, ohio. Steve varner, A guy who eventually opened a great little music store called harmony house in Greenville once had a chance of playing somewhere in the mix. Never happened as we know. My younger brother had a 70s explorer that was lost in a home fire in 81,I've never played another so sweet, I saw Boston a few times,Brad Delp was unreal,and I've never heard another group play as close to studio sound while live

Saw Rick with Edgar Winter touring the ‘They only come out at night” album in the late 70’s. Amazing show. Love your channel Doc, keep up the good work.
The best thing this guy ever played was the cover of Chuck Berry's "Back In The USA" on the Edgar Winter Live album "Roadwork".
His playing on that tune is a master class in tone, timing, feel, and just general kick ass rock and roll-ness. The intro alone is worth the price of the album.

Saw Rick live with Edgar Winter in 1974. Awesome show. Then saw Rick live in 1993 in Dallas opening for Pat Travers at a small St. Patrick's Day concert in a tent! Everyone including me was there to see P.T. Really regret not getting right down front for Rick. Then in 1994 Rick put out his blues records "Back to the Blues", then "Electra Blues". Sure wish I could see him live now. A true rock 'n' roll legend.
I saw Rick with Johnny Winter and a f few times, once he broke a string high E of course , he never missed a note, he recovered without a hitch, great player and show man

I saw Rick Derringer here in Denver, Colorado on Halloween in 1982 at the Rainbow Music Hall. Don't look for it, the building is now a Walgreens. That show ROCKED and he and the band came out dressed as ghosts, old school ghosts, just white sheets with holes cut out for the eyes. I still listen to RD on vinyl.

I'm not 100% sure, but I think the Les Paul guitar seen at the 2:35 mark is the Gold Top guitar that was refinished red by Gibson in the mid-60's when Rick and his father brought it at the Kalamazoo factory for repairs. On tour with the McCoys, Rick sold it to a store in New York, I think. While on tour with Cream, Eric Clapton bought it, brought it to England, used it to record "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" and gave it to George Harrison who named it Lucy.
Then I believe that guitar was stole out of George Harrison's home or rented house in Bel Air and recovered by the Guitar center in Hollywood that all comes to mind .....
In the mid 1990s I lived in Myrtle Beach SC I got to see Rick play a concert at Broadway at the Beach behind the now closed Hard Rock Cafe. Later a friend of mine in the community where I lived told me he did work for Derringer parents, I was skeptical until one day he took me along to do some chores. We arrived at a beautiful home in a nice neighborhood the couple were older 70-80 I'm guessing. They invited us in and on the mantle was a framed picture of Rick Derringer when I commented the lady said oh that's our son Ricky. It was on that day I learned his true last name. I later met Rick when I moved back to Michigan a friend of mine was in a band they were opening for Rick back stage after the show I was introduced to him. He was very kind and is one of the most underrated guitar players of our generation not to mention his musical production.

1977 i saw Rick Derringer and Jeff Beck open for Aerosmith here in Seattle at the now defunct Kingdome. Before that i had owned All American Boy and after the show i bought Derringer Live with Vinnie Appice, Kenny Aaronson and Danny Johnston; Beyond The Universe just kicks ass. Then thru the years i learned about Rick's involvement with Cindy Lauper, Steely Dan, etc. He was one of my biggest influences on guitar. Thanks for this post.

I saw Rick in the Edgar Winter Group in 1975 in Nashville at the Municipal Auditorium. He played a black Les Paul Custom.
He switched to bass on the song “Free Ride”.
Rick played “Rock and Roll Hootchie Koo”. This was the same group that played on the show, The Midnight Special back in 1973. Jerry Weems also played guitar on that show. Jerry left soon after.
Later I saw Jerry playing with Johnny Winter in 1976.
Foghat was the opening act.
That was the only time I got to see the Edgar Winter group or Rick Derringer live. It was a great concert Gary Wright. Was the opening act. He had just released the dream Weaver album.
I saw him at the east side roller rink in Detroit
in the 70s, then got to jam with him when we opened for him in the 90s. We partied and he was cool to all of us.😊
I saw Rick play with Johnny Winter at the Depot in Minneapolis May of 1971. It remains as the best concert I've ever been to - and mind you - J Geils Band opened. A long time ago now....

Funny, I saw Edgar circa '73 in Pensacola. I was on pins and needles waiting to see Rick, but he didnt show up. I found out later that he was working on the All American Boy album, which came out that year. Might have been the same tour.
I bought tickets in the mid 70’s to see the Edgar Winter group in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada while I was in high school. “They only come out at night” was out and I was right into it. Rick was the guitarist on the tour and I knew of him, but was there to see the newest thing…. The huge synthesizer that created the sounds we had never heard before. They played some of Rick’s stuff as well as all the EG tunes and it was/is still one o the best shows I have seen in my lifetime. All the musicianship and energy is hard to describe. Rick was a standout though. Thanks guys, what great memories.

Rick Derringer’s V headed Gibson Explorer was owned by Scott Chinery, a noted guitar collector who died about 20 years ago. Rick Derringer also played guitar on quite a few Steely Dan albums in the 70s.
Only Steely Dan song I was aware he played on is Show Biz Kids on which he played a masterful and un-matchable slide. Can you name for me other songs he played on.

So a friend who was also a drummer in a couple of bands we where in together. Met Rick Derringer at a music industry show like nam but in Germany. He was at his booth kinda out of full view from the crowd playing guitar and my buddy said to him hey your that guy. lol you know hoochi coo. lol. They both laughed about that and when he told the story it made everyone else listening laugh as well. My buddies name: Tony Hagar, one of the best drummers and friend I have had the privilege to know. He passed a couple of years ago unfortunately. Anyway that’s my story, I’m not sure that the location is correct and I’m not sure what year that took place. I think maybe the early or mid 80s probably because we met in the late 80s thru are wives at the time. They were friends from childhood. Tony and his wife just moved back from Hawaii. He was looking for some musicians to jam with and we ended up creating a band together. We would run into each other through the years hear and there playing in different bands at the venues that supported live music throughout the metropolitan region. The couple of years before he passed we lost touch. I was actually trying to find him to see if he would play in a new project I was involved with. That’s when I discovered my good friend wouldn’t be joining in anymore projects or jams. He did say that Mr. Derringer was a cool cat and they chatted awhile and probably drank a beer or two or more together as well. Thank you take care…

Rick may be the very best guitar player alive. I don’t like making such a statement but I am a guitar player of over 50 years that grew up on Hendrix and have a pretty good handle on greeter playing.
The Allman Bros. opened for Johnny Winter And around 70/71. Packed 12,000 seat arena. Total bedlam. The crowd went berserk.
I saw Rick play the split head Explorer probably mid 70s in NYC, he also used an Explorer made by Charlie LoBue in NYC, it looked a bit different than the Gibson, I worked at Guitar Lab for a little while in the late 70s after Alex Music bought the brand. Charlie LoBue also made a bass Gene Simmons used for a long time as well as a V for Paul Stanley that got stolen. I think Scott Chinery collector and owner of the Blue Guitar Collection had the Explorer in question but he passed away in 2000. Good video, thanks for sharing
Wow!!! Thanks!!! That was a cool ride with Rick. You did a great job with telling the story and I really enjoyed it. In the summer of 92 I was 20 and I found a Gibson RD in my local guitar store. I had no idea what it was but I'd always wanted a lespaul and couldn't afford one. I knew Rick played an explorer that had a different headstock so I thought maybe this offset body with a lespaul looking headstock was a Rick Derringer guitar of some sort. I put it on layaway and dreamed all summer about getting it. Today I still have it. It's a 77 RD Custom. All maple, 25.5 scale with the compressor built in. It has really small frets and it's a really unique guitar to play but when I play it through my silverface twin reverb or super six, ( I love that amp) it's the cleanest sound I've ever got. Johnny Winter And was one of my favorite bands. I stood on like for hours to get tickets to see them the last week at the Fillmore East. Not long before the show, they were scratched from the date. Came to find out Johnny had gone to rehab. I got a refund on my ticket. In 1971 I needed the $5.50. Johnny never played with them again. I think Johnny was at his best when he played with Rick.

I saw Rick do his live album at the Tomorrow Club in Youngstown,Ohio.The last 2 songs from that album were from that show.I made up a special whistle and I can hear myself whistle on those 2 live recorded songs.I was about 5 feet from stage center.
I got to see Rick a few times - with a BC Rich in San Diego Ca - And met him in Ft Myers Fl -and talked to him - He helped us name a band - Choosen Few

Rick and his wife Jenda are Facebook friends. First time I ever met and shot him was July 31, 1976 backstage at the Hydroglobe Music Festival. in Dayton , Ohio. Since I shot him a couple more times. Once when he was with Cyndi Lauper. His bands through the yrs have been made up of some my real good friends playing drums and bass. They all say he is a great guy
I saw him with Edgar at the 2 day Poconos Raceway concert. no food, no bathroom for 3 freakin' days !! But Edgar played 'Frankenstein' and called out Rick as a guest appearance - at least thats how I remember it. Until then my opinion of Derringer came from my 'Hang On Sloopy' 45 rpm ', and that what the extenet. Man did I have my eyes, ears and head opened at the Poconos concert. He kicked ASS.
All American Boy was one of my first rock and roll vinyl albums . Derringer has amassed a long career in the music industry . I saw him a couple times in St. Louis area small clubs in the 90's . Sorry to state I was too young to know of him in the 60's but atlas came along the All American Boy album and the connections with the Winter Brothers and Ringo Starr bands . Still a prolific player well rehearsed and just rocked it out well with the usual Hang on Sloopy in the set list .
Saw derringer with Led Zeppelin and Judas Priest 1977 Oakland. He kicked ass it was after the live album came out. Last American zep concerts before bonzos death
Awesome RD《☆》Rick's a True Showman🎸I didn't know about his Gibson Explorer. I let a few Guitars go too cheap. I saw Derringer perform Solo at a small Night Club called SHADES in Orange Park Florida around 1993. I don't remember if he had a Loop or Overdub setup. I think it was just him with a few guitars, an Amp & pedal board. He did just as much Talking as he did Playing. He kept playing little blips of the FreeRide riff throughout the show & kept saying Sorry I'm not allowed to play that😁A Chip & Dale all Male review was the opening act. The ladies were there & Primed that night✌🏼😎☯️

I had dinner with Rick and his band , in Santa Cruz at the Brookdale lodge...It was a trip...Second time I met him ...I tried to ask him about Johnny..but he didn't want to talk about him ...
Well, you know, Johnny had problems. And a lot of people
Rick new and worked with had drug problems and they were lost. The only time I saw Johnny was just a few months before he died. He was in a wheelchair, but he could still do a set.

I saw Rick in 1974 with Edgar Winter. He was playing a maroon Bernie Rico Mockingbird which is strange because that guitar was not officially designed or even produced until 1975. Maybe another example of Rick playing a prototype one-off. I don't know, but it remains the best concert I have ever seen. Rick was wearing a blue velvet suit, a white ruffled tuxedo shirt, and that maroon B.C. Rich was stellar!! Red, white and blue All American Boy! Oh, and I can still feel the thunder of that Moog on Frankenstein!

I also saw the Rick Derringer band in 1977 (I was a fan of both Johnny Winter and Rick ever since the JW and Live album was released) Rick was total dynamite on stage and I remember at one point during the show, he and the other guitar player switched guitars by throwing them up in the air from left stage to right and vice versa in a perfect choreography (they were wireless) Although Boston was a big hit at that time, I especially went to see Rick and his band and wasn't dissapointed! He seemed like a kid and the guitar seemed so big on him...He will always remain one of my main influence on guitar!
Rick Derringer …man what a showmen ! I liked him from the hang on sloppy , Johnny winters , and his band DERINGER , I saw him lots of times , and met , him down in a club on M street DC , and I saw them blow areosmith , right off the stage , but every time he came to Md, Pa. Dc. and it might have been a ride , but back them a show only costed 3-5 bucks , but he was one of th best acts to see ! And if he’s still out there I would still drive ,a few hours one way to see him !
I was in a band in the late 90s that opened up for him … and I got to jam with him

I saw him open for zeplin , then in 77 again open for Aerosmith in 78 both shows he played Fenders..
I clearly remember Rick and the Raiders playing Hang on Sloopy at Forest Park Plaza in Dayton, Ohio. Randy was only 14 at the time and played drums standing up. In those days Rick and Randy lived just over the state line in Indiana, but we considered them a “local” band. Saw the Beatles play in Cincinnati…but that’s another story.
I saw Rick about 3 times. I lived in the tri-state area of NY at the time and I did the webpage for the Manhattan Blues Alliance. I got tickets and backstage passes to everything going on in the northeast as long as I did a review on the page. Rick is a wonderful and friendly man. Great guy to just shoot the breeze with. Someone should talk about his grilled BBQ fried chicken. He made it for a party at the Pocono Blues festival and people are still talking about how good it was. There, someone talked about it. One of my favorite albums growing up was American Boy, so meeting him was a highlight of my life! I met him at a couple of his shows in the area after the blues festival and he was always a great showman and always said hi and shot the breeze a bit. And his comradery with the audience is what all musicians should strive for. I can't say enough good about Rick or his music!

Derringer Live is a great album. Weirdly he plays a very Eruption like solo followed by You Really Got Me. This was a few months before VH 1 came out. I read somewhere that Eddie had accused him of copying him.....
