If you go back and look at Tommy Hearns vs Sugar Ray, Ali vs Frazier in 1971, or Tommy Hearns (again) vs Marvin Hagler, you will see fights that are considered some of the best boxing matches in the history of the sport. This was an amazing display of Manny's skills and an incredible personal achievement, but Margarito did not do anything to make this match look like anything more than a high level sparring match. We will never see another Pacquiao... what's amazing to me is he skipped two weight classes entirely meaning he could have ostensibly won titles in TEN weight classes. He started as a powerful lefty and undernourished kid basically, and grew into a solid 147 pounder who never lost his punch or speed and picked up a good right hand along the way... anyway, his records are as unbreakable as Nolan Ryan's, seven no-hitters and all-time strikeout total IMO

Excellent breakdown, man. I really appreciate the time and editing you put into this masterpiece of a video. I remember watching this live and rewatching it many times throughout the years. You are the first to pick up on many pivotal shots that both Pacquiao and Margarito landed, especially round 6 when Manny had to bite down.
Great stuff. I really hope you continue to provide these in the future.

As a fighter, Manny has pure class. His hand speed is phenomenal and he fought fighters in their prime. Floyd on the other hand, hand-picked fighters he will fight - waiting for them past their prime. He also has tremendous speed - he is fast hugging and running from his opponents...

Good narrative. What was not shown here was a 4th round sweeping uppercut by Manny, that everyone thought was a miss. But if you look carefully at the full fight footage, you'll see that it was with that swing that Manny tore open the cut below Antonio Margarito (AM)'s right eye. This was the cut that was the beginning of the end for AM (as he later admitted during post fight ring interview. Nearly blind by the 10th, and smashed by a late 10th round right hook, AM was basically a punching bag. Starting at the end of the 10th and through the 11th and 12th, Manny kept trying to get the ref's attention to stop the fight. Finally by the 12th Manny himself mercifully turned down the attack and carried AM throughout the 12th.

A most excellent breakdown. Margarito, to his credit, was probably in the best shape he had ever been and hurt Pacquiao so many times that he immediately rejected any offer to defend that 154 title. To Pacquiao's credit, he knew he reached his physiological limit. Fighting at Middleweight would've shortened his career tangling with boxers who might come in at Cruiserweight on fight night. Although, a Canelo matchup would've been epic.

Manny landed many fast multiple punches. He was usually nice and close to Margarito and punch him with full power. I was amazed Margarito was still standing after getting so many powerful blows in a row. He must be made of steel. Manny hits fast, hard and with many combinations. Its difficult to impossible to stop him.
