  • The early history of the Brahmi script is an interesting one. There're many theories about how the Brahmi script originated. In this video, I talk about the different theories which scholars have put forward on the origin of the Brahmi script.

Keeladi script on pottery was in Tamil brahmi script and was dated scientifically by carbon dating as 580 BCE and the salient finding was that most of the letters on the pottery resembled IVC script. This is being studied further. There should not be any delay in this study.

One suggestion Jay, please translate your videos in Indian languages specially in Hindi. Someone like my mother and grandmother can listen to you whole day, but language is a very big barrier. In Jain tradition, we do Goshtis of many of these texts. Your work can easily become part of these goshtis.

Interesting.. is there any reference to Indus and Sumerian..
And this Brahmi could be seen as agamei agam+mei
Now having few insights into Indus and Sumerian..I thought of looking into Chinese and Japanese to have additional insights.. let me see..
In Tamil Lord Murugan and Agasthya are associated..the archetypes of both Murugan & Agasthya are just about the same, the inner mind.. say Muru+ga >> muru+agaa...agaa ...is agam inner mind like Anuman..the muruga could be seen as Child ego, the inventor.. further note Tholkappiam meipattiyal and pirappiyal, and Valluvar first poem agara..aga..ra.. these show how languages not only of human but of any being have evolved..
The above thoughts are initial thoughts.. let us see..

I haven't found any academic paper on Keeladi.
About Tamil Brahmi Script. The dates that we have are from 600 BC - 300 BC. Although the dates are debatable but what is interesting is that it is fragmentary inscription and some argue that it wasn't used to write Tamil characters.

Now let us presuppose clusters of population...
    Egypt
    Sumerian
    Anatolian
    Persian
    Elam
    Asia minor
    Indus
    Gangetic
    Dolavira Maharashtrian Magan
    Dilmun Kerala
    Kanyakumari
    Madurai
    Kaveri Poompatinam
    Kanchipuram
    Srilanka
    Australia
    Ethiopia
So on all coexisting some 2000 BC...were speaking and having arts on rocks, pots, woods.. etc...
    Now
Tamilnadu.. we have an education system teaching children how to read.. that has one element Amma, mother abstracted as A,a...another read pictures only and tell stories.. the later is akin to Indus, former is Sumerian..
Where are those Chinese people.. I suspect they knew writing development in their own country, South, Northern parts of ancient India and elsewhere.. they should have all the hidden knowledge of writing evolution world over..
Chinese had trade relations with Tamil or Dravidian speakers of Southern parts...
So in essence we have to slowly build up and explain iteratively..
    Sumerian spoke and wrote Tamil..
ra of Sumerian is both aram, aRam, arai... respectively sawing tool, virtues, half.. even parasu (ram) as axe could be seen in Sumerian..
Indus the Rosetta stone is Dholavira wall sign.. that wall sign reflects the city name as passed down and the fort archeological evidences... That is in Tamil or could be read even in Hindi or any Dravidian languages...dolak as pallak or kaavadi refers to carrying goods, Veera is soldiers.. our sangam poems few tell us how business people got kings support to protect their goods...
Chinese were on Indian East coast both travellers and business people..
Sumerian used a river double. curved line as scripts or pictogram to represent river with phonetic value of a, A.. in Tamil.. same letter is used to indicate many other words..
The point we could welcome ideas and proposals how these things would match or not...

No language in the world sprang up like lightening but evolved slowly dependencies on the geographical situation in which these human beings lived and their every day needs for existence and living .it is a wonder how the people of Indus valley civilization conveyed their feelings and needs of life between themselves and also with people of contemporary civilizations like Egyptian, mesopotamian etc withe whom these earliest people of a civilized people had trading relations .and these earliest known civilization in india used modern techniques of house building planned drainage systems and drinking water .some are it seems ,to tag this Indian origin civilization and language to Greek or some other foreign civilizations .it is TRUE there can be some type of changes when coming in to contact with others . This is what I feel .

I myself researched upon this and found aramaic is the most plausible candidate for this and the letters dha,ka are of greek origin and ba,da are from proto sinatic script and va from phonecian script . 30:35 there are many references that tell that megasthanes generalised his observation in magadha for whole india so this arguement is not that plausible .

    This is बुधिस्ट dhamm lipi not brhami lipi, और यह प्राकृत पाली भाषा है।

Foreigners like Megasthenes are just talking non sense, the win of Greeks is just found in their scriptures, and our scriptures are either extincted or doesn't mention at all, only the Vedas are given most priorities to be saved at any cost, that's why it's still available to these days, even the verbal pronunciation were given so much important, thanks to guru shishya parampara, it's still alive as it was. I believe it was actually Lord Brahma who shared the script because I'm a Bharatiya, If I keep believing in foreigners than I'm convinced to believe that I have evolved from monkeys 😂 even though scientists have neglected this theory as a creature of even 1% different than us can surpass us by way far in technology and development.

Cunningham et al are shamelessly Eurocentric, and undermines the continuity of Indian civilization. Migrations caused evolution of languages and writing systems. Gramatology and linguistics supports an evolution from harrapan script to brahmi. Brahmi is indigenous. There are enough symbols to put together a complete syllabic script, although undeciphered, the characters show clear indigenous evolution.
