The bog bodies are NOT from the Viking age. They are from the Bronze age, so 3-4,000 years older.

38:16 At this moment the now abdicated Queen loudly said: "God save the King" and acknowledged her son, and then left the room! The first monarch to abdicate in over 1000 years of Danish history!

Not quite, tho the first monarch to volunteerily abdicate in over 800 years. King Erik 3. Lam abdicated in 1146 due to severe illness and joined a convent, where he died within a year.
King Christian 2. was the last monarch to abdicate in 1523, tho that was not volunteerily, he was forced out.

From watching TH-cam I've learnt why the Norwegian Vikings were so intent on attacking monasteries. They were angry with their ruler who wanted to force them to convert to Catholicism. They wanted to show up the christian god as weak and unable to defend himself. They didn't understand that Jesus Christ willingly sacrificed himself for humanity. But I can certainly understand that anger.
Frederick and Mary love story is like a real-life fairy tale. With a Crown Prince marrying a common, average Aussie lady. Everybody in both Denmark and Australia were glued to their tvs to watch them get married in 2004. He was so happy that he cried. The Danes love Mary and we love Frederick. We adopted him as an Honorary Aussie. They love to come back to Australia for Christmas with her family in Tassie (Tasmania) and have a nice normal holiday. They don't really need an security personnel in Australia. So they're usually photographed out enjoying themselves like anyone else. If someone did try harassing them they'd have to deal with the Aussie public.

      @jenniferharrison8915 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

    • @henrikkjuus90

Well... It wasn't all about anger.
Christian monestaries contained various items that were either gilded, or made entirely out of gold. Many of these items were set with presicous stones.
In short, the monasteries contained treasure and prospective slaves in the form of monks and nuns, and most importantly; they weren't guarded.
Christians in that period simply assumed that monestaries would be left alone, because that was the norm in warfare between christian rulers, which by the start of the viking age was all they knew.
But, I will grant you that there was a degree of frustration with the christian missionaries that kept showing up.
There still is to this day to be honest.
Today, though, we simply ignore missionaries when they try to stop us in the street, we don't show up at their places of worship to rob and enslave them.
      So.. Progress, I guess?

Nonsense, The Vikings plundered the monasteries because they had a lot of wealth for the taking and no protection! The Danes had to sail longer than any Norwegian Vikings, just to find barren lands on Iceland and Greenland. The Danes attacked and conquered England! Danish Kings also became Kings over England, Norway, southern Sweden, northern Germany and Denmark, on the highest points of their Power! Canute the Great was the Greatest Viking King ever!

Queen Mary changed her faith and has given up the right to custody of the children, should they ever divorce.
(as do all men/women who marry into any Royal family)
      - and if you ever watch an interview with her, you can hear Queen Mary saying, how Danish she feels, herself,
..despite being born into a Scottish/Australien family.
0f course, Queen Mary is proud of her heritage, as she should be,

"A queen consort is the wife of a reigning king, and usually shares her spouse's social rank and status. [...] she does not formally share the king's political and military powers, unless on occasion acting as regent.[1][2]" - en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Queen_consort

@@Flum666 she will not, just as Queen Ingrid didn’t when Queen Margrete’s father King Fredrik IX died.
Queen Ingrid became the “Queen mother” until her death as her daughter ruled as Queen (just as the late Queen Elisabeth’s mother didn’t rule in England after her husband died), and Ingrid was of royal decent by birth so in theory “higher”.
In our country you cannot rule if you are not born into the royal bloodline, CP Christian will take over should anything happen to his father.
This was also all covered (needlessly so bc all danes know) during the full days press coverage as Fredrik became king.
A queen mother has been known to rule on behalf of her minor son previously in Denmark, but Christian is not a minor. And as Mary has no birth right to the trone, she will step to the side if Fredrik doesn’t out live her.

In Denmark, if the sea between Denmark and Sweden, the Öresund Strait, freezes over, and a Swede crosses the frozen water, Danes are allowed to beat him with a stick. This stems from a never-overturned law from the Dano-Swedish War in 1657. Even tho they say we are not allowed anymore 🤣

In regards to last names in Denmark (and most of Scandinavia) before and during the Viking age a person would be named after his or her prominent parent... so Harald's son would be named Haraldson or Haraldsen (dependent on where in Scandinavia that person was born, Danes say -sen and Norweigan and Swedes would say -son) and if Harald had a daughter she would be named haraldsdottir (which you can still see in Icelandic last names). But once Christianity was more wide spread the church diverted away from that naming scheme.
28:20 this is also the origin for the Danish Law that states if any Swede crosses the Øresund ice (if it had frozen over during the winter which it rarely does... especially nowadays) any Dane had the right and duty to clobber the Swede on the head to kill him for his transgression of entering Denmark.

Hi Dar! I'm a Dane, and appreciate your reactions. I chose to view the coronation day in the comfort of my home, as it was freezing cold outside, and too crowded for my taste (300,000 ppl).
─ Mostly the history given in the video is the official narrative, so should be taken with a grain of salt...for example the flag falling from heaven in Estonia. Even a patriot like me don't buy that.
It also doesn't cover any negative aspects of how the monarchs behaved, for instance turning the blind eye to slave trade and colonizations (West Indies).
    All the best!

Actually the myth of the flag isnt that far off. Tho rather than just "poof" falling from the skies, more likely it belonged to a mercenary band of soldiers (the use of "cross" flags was standard in the centuries of the crusades, and every1 had their own colours), and it was taken by the wind and blown across the battlefield.

#41:45 - "We just have Presidents"
The problem with Presidents is that they are elected by the people. And we all know how stupid most people are.

Hey Dar, it was really fun to see ur reactions.
However, the video, u watched, was pretty awful, it got more things wrong than right. There are some good videos with correct representations of our history and culture. This 1 isnt 1 of them. A lot of it is complete and utter bs, and even some of the not completely misrepresented stuff is mixed up between different eras, some 100s of years off, and in the case of the bog bodies 1000s of years off. I am familiar with the channel, but I gave up watching it, coz she has a habit of mixing proven facts with mythology, unproven suppositions and just plain falsehoods. She gets enough right to sound believable, if u dont know any better, but considering how much shes gotten wrong in her various videos about the Danish Royals, I dont trust any of her videos.
FYI, despite the monarch initially being elected and the changing names of the royal houses, it all stayed in the family. Sometimes going out 1 family branch, when that died out, going back to another family branch. Our new King is, in fact, a direct decendant of King Gorm and Queen Thyra.
