  • How to install a double din headunit into a 2013 Hyundai i40
    I was asked to install this headunit, the owner was looking for a reversing camera and navigation in their car. A new headunit seemed the best solution to this as it was much tidier than reversing cameras that click on over the rear view mirror or need another screen.
    This is another Kenwood Headunit, a DMX5020DABS, so far i have been happy with the DMX8019DABS. The one fitted here has a capacitive touch screen but does lack wireless car play and android auto. Although both work through USB.
    The facia kit and wiring harness were bought from Dynamic sounds, as was the headunit itself and the camera. Everything installed quite easily.

    Thanks for uploading. Not sure if I’m even more scared of trying to replace my head unit now. But at least I have a fighting chance now.

      Thanks for the comment, by all means feel free to ask any questions you may have. It is within the realms of the DIYer but does require a bit of care and attention.

    One of the best videos working on hyundai i40. There is little information on our vehicles and you have covered soooo many areas of interest here... Many "how to" videos can go out of your post. Actually you should post them separately also, with designated names i.e. Rear seat removal or trunk liner removal etc.... I have saved it, liked it, and share it with my i40 club members on Facebook. You deserve it! Cheers!

      Thanks for the comment, yes i noticed a distinct lack of any information for the i40. My friend who owns the car made the same complaint that he could find nothing online to try DIY jobs on it. Hopefully this video helps it does cover a fair amount of parts removal as you say.

    I totally agree re the best way to join wires is to solder and heat shrink. I have recently started using heat shrink tubing with adhesive in and I reckon this has a slight edge. Thanks for the video mate it was very interesting. Although you made it look easy I dare say it isn't.

    • @peugeotCitroen2CV
      @peugeotCitroen2CV  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That would be one worth trying, does the adhesive stick while its cold or only activate with heat?
      I see some wee connectors available that have the solder and insulation all in one, just heat them up the solder melts and the heat shrink, shrinks over the connector.

      @@peugeotCitroen2CV It is hot melt glue in the tubing. I have even used it on the end of boot laces to stop them fraying!

      Hi there, no not on this car as it is one of the lower spec models it does not actually have digital climate control. I am not sure about retaining that feature, which would be important if you have climate controls that have an interface in the infotainment screen.
      Speaking more generally the 407 has an arrangement like that where the climate control displays through the central screen. It limits aftermarket headunit choices to android units. I am not sure what works and what does not work well on these i40's so would recommend having a look through or asking on the owners club.

    Hi is it hard to remove the entire dashboard to fix creaks when driving on rough roads? It's driving me mad, it's a big problem with i40s apparently 😞

    • @peugeotCitroen2CV
      @peugeotCitroen2CV  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, i would not have a huge amount of experience at working on these i40's just this particular job has been about it. Rattly dashboards are an annoyance in general, removing the full dashboard i dont know if that would achieve much. it tends to be where multiple parts sit against each-other they will creak and rattle. Bits of felt, or old rags at these interface areas can help quieten them down. I have plenty of old french cars with trim rattles, there is the old one of just turn the radio up but at the same time its best to get to the root of the issue. The forums and owners clubs will be the best place to do more research into this issue finding out what others have done and what fixes work.

    • @peugeotCitroen2CV
      @peugeotCitroen2CV  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, from memory they all did yes. The module bought takes the steering wheel controls and operates the radio. The actual radio itself has a menu where you can reconfigure what you want specific buttons to do.

    Hi mate I have Hyundai i40 Tourer and same is like on you change radio to satnav but I find original Hyundai i40 satnav and I want to replaced but somebody say if you don't have one originaly satnav can't work on your car he say is that real or lies to me also where can I get all cable connecting thanks Fernando

    • @peugeotCitroen2CV
      @peugeotCitroen2CV  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi thee frernando
      I am no expert when it comes to the more intracate nuances of these hyundais. I think the cars with sat nav also have digital climate control and whatever other extras using canbus signals. At the very least a factory radio might need programmed to work with your car. I am not 100% sure the best course of action would be to join owners clubs/forums and ask there.
      However i can say that in terms of functionality this JVC unit with apple car play/android audio is a much better user experience than the more outdated factory option. I use the analogy that if you were to start using a 2014 mobile phone it would feel its age, in car infotainment is very much the same.

    • @peugeotCitroen2CV
      @peugeotCitroen2CV  ปีที่แล้ว

      This particular model does not have climate control, not sure even if the higher spec cars use the central screen for heater settings as there are separate LCD displays for each side. But no not on this one the heater never displayed through the radio.

      Hi,
      Between £300-500 depending on what you buy, i have included the model name of the radio used in the video so you can do price comparisons to find the best deal although dynamic sounds is a reputable seller with good customer support.

      hi, unfortunately i am no expert when it comes to the variety of head-units out there. All i wanted was a capacitive touch screen and apple car play. To be honest id use car play over any installed navigation system as it will stay up to date.
      Only downside i can see is the screen technology, a good enough touch interface but the screen is just an LCD. It does not react to ambient lighting very well, and at light being LCD instead of OLED it cant dim down nicely or even turn off entirely. I find them a tad bright at night even on the dimmest setting.

    How much does it cost for the 3d print of the usb box and where do I get them from

    • @peugeotCitroen2CV
      @peugeotCitroen2CV  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi there, i have a link to the STL file in the video description, from there anyone with a 3D printer should be able to make it. A quick google for 3D printing service will yeild plenty of companies who can 3D print the part. I know my own 3D printer would estimate the cost at less than £3 but im currently away studying a masters so not at home to print anything off otherwise i would offer to print it.
