The first mileage sign on US 40 westbound in Colorado that has Colorado Springs on the top line at 154 and Denver on the bottom line at 190 is a rare Colorado W
@@ControlCityFreak If you do the US 61 video on Super Bowl week, I have 2 requests for you. US 84/425 in Natchez where I went camping in Vidalia and the I-310 exit is on the way to my house to Houma. I’ll be on a cruise on Super Bowl Sunday. Thought I give you the heads up. Appreciate it.
For US 61, show the Intersection with US 190, bc it goes through Copperas Cove, TX, where I used to live between 2013 and 2016 (I thought about requesting the I-12 Intersection before I realized that it would be the same reason I requested US 6 meeting US 41)
Colfax is not the "zero-line" street in Denver, it is actually in the spot of 15th avenue. Great video, though. I can confirm, Berthoud Pass is pretty awesome
14:21 The zero line in Denver is actually Ellsworth Avenue - Colfax is 1500 north, so would otherwise be called 15th Avenue. Colfax SHOULD be the dividing line, in my opinion, though.
As usual for lists that involve significant segments concurrent with Interstates, I’m going to treat U.S. 40 as if it were the primary route. Kansas City-Tonganoxie-Lawrence-Topeka-Junction City-Abilene-Salina-Russell-Hays-WaKeeney-Oakley-Sharon Springs-Cheyenne Wells-Kit Carson-Limon (This is, unfortunately for you, one of the few instances where I think usage of the L word is appropriate)-Aurora-Denver-Lakewood-Genesee-Downieville-Fraser-Granby-Kremmling-Steamboat Springs-Craig-Vernal-Roosevelt-Duchesne-Heber City-Park City-Salt Lake City It’s a shame that 40 no longer treks west across the Great Basin, because it’d allow you to explore my hometown of Reno. In fact, along a two lane stretch of the main east-west surface street (4th Street) in the western part of the city, my navigator (last updated 5 years ago or so) actually recognizes the street as Old U.S. 40, using a shield icon and everything. I guess for you to come back here, I’ll have to hope that you (one day) decide to explore U.S. 395. It doesn’t serve any NFL cities like 40 or (now) its parent route, but if you think 191 is worth checking out, this should be on your radar too.
Holy schnikes! I had no idea that Tonganoxie actually had a downtown! Mind you, last time I was there was visiting my third grade teacher’s farm and riding her horses in 1978-1979 when my father was stationed at Ft Leavenworth. Oh Mrs Hall…you made Tonganoxie (and third grade!) truly unforgettable. Think of the teacher in Van Halen’s “Hot for Teacher” but as a sweet and gorgeous farmer’s daughter…WHOA!!! :)
I enjoyed the Lawrence KS part of this. I went to KU 85 to 89. From 87 to 89 I lived at an apartment complex (Sundance) at 7th and Florida so seeing the shot of 6th and Michigan brought back memories. Crazy they re-routed 40 down Iowa. 40 is 6th Street once you cross the Kaw, period!
I saw my first ever concert at Sandstone, The Moody Blues. Over the years I've seen Aerosmith, Motley Crue, Deep Purple, The Scorpions, Dio and countless metal bands there as well.
4:25 - The closest I've been to the Kansas River was where it flows into the Missouri River at Kaw Point Park in Kansas City, Kansas at the Missouri border which was one of the points Lewis and Clark made camp on their way out west.
Great vid! Nice scenery too. Must be snowing right now on US-40 in Colorado from I-70 to Hot Sulfur Springs; Los of red lines and “hazardous driving conditions” “flags”… Thx!
By the looks of it, if they went with the choice of routing 70 from Denver to Salt Lake City, they could've routed it along US 40, although 70 wouldn't of had the luxury of passing through the Eisenhower Tunnel, Glenwood Canyon, or the San Rafael Swell. Great video Todd, and as always keep on trucking. :) 👍
14:58 As a Pats fan, old/new Mile High has been a house of horrors. 2005 and 2015 come to mind, playoff run ended there. In addition, Josh McDaniels beating Belichick in 09 happened at that stadium
I remember. Those Broncos-Patriots games were probably the only times I ever cheered for the Pats during their entire Evil Empire run. Pittsburgh bailed me out in 2005 but I'd have rather seen a 7th Pats ring than the one Broncos ring.
If you ever wonder what the Utah street setup is about with the "200 east" streets and the like, every town's street grid is essentially surrounding the town's Mormon temple, which is "ground zero" for lack of a better term. 200 east means you are likely just to the east of the temple, quite close.
The only song I know of about an intersection, "Where Zero Meets 15" by Five Iron Frenzy, refers to Colfax & Broadway in downtown Denver. Also, anyone who ever drives the section of US 40 around the UT/CO border should absolutely check out Dinosaur National Monument. It's the largest concentration of dinosaur fossils in the US.
Thanks for your determined investigative work, Todd, tracking US 40 where it is not signed. You mention the maligned US73 which I need to investigate. When I was stationed at Offutt AFB in the early 1970s, US 75 was known as "73-75." When I returned here in the 1990s, any mention of US 73 had vanished. So, I am curious!
U.S. 73 was once much longer. I think it even went into Oklahoma. It even had branches in Kansas for a while (73E/73W). What remains of it seems to exist only to connect three or four county seats in the most convoluted way that could be thought of.
18:54 You can turn here and follow the same road all the way to Chicago! (By the way, maybe you should do US 34 the next time the Chiefs or Royals play a Chicago team!)
I-70 and US-40 are always splitting up and getting back together. Also I wouldn’t mind if the Chiefs winning or losing on Sunday since we’re already in the playoffs as the no. 1 seed.
KDOT is finally upgrading chunks of western K-10 to freeway standards. For some reason, they’re skipping the Clinton Pkwy exit for the freeway upgrade. I don’t acknowledge US40 on K-10. That’s 6th Street as far as I’m concerned. But 40 from Lawrence to Topeka is quite the scenic drive. :)
Moving U.S. 40 in Lawrence is one of the dumber moves and the only reason I can think of is that KDOT wanted to dump that part of Sixth on the city to save money on maintenance.
Tonganoxie indeed has a funny sounding name. When I was in middle school I met this kid who told me he was from Tonganoxie and I kept asking him to repeat it because I thought he was pulling a prank on me. I kept hearing Tag-a-Nazi the entire time. To this day I can not unhear that way of saying it.
Colorado is *terrible* about signing concurrencies. The standard (a low one) seems to be to only sign the highest level of highway (with inconsistencies). So if you're on an interstate, you'll only see that shield (an exception seems to be U.S. 6 in the Danver metro, but I haven't been on that route all the way through Colorado). If you're on a U.S. highway with a C-xx concurrency, you'll only see the U.S. shields. It seems like CDOT assumes that you know where you're going well enough that you don't need information it considers redundant. You might even see [TO] [ROUTE] signs when you thought you were already on the route.
2:35 US 73 needs to be returned to Kansas and Nebraska. I think neither state gives a rat’s rear end about that highway. I never refer to US-73. I just use whichever state highway it overlaps.
The northern end point of U.S. 73 should be where it meets U.S. 59 in Atchison. Then rename it K-73. Almost the rest of that highway from that point is concurrencies. The stretch from Falls City to U.S. 75 could renamed Nebraska 73 or made an extension of Nebraska 4.
May the best team win Todd but if there's one thing we can agree on, let's knock the Bengals out of the Playoffs. Also good to see you refer it as Mile High Stadium because that's what it should be called
Why wait so long to start signing the capitals? We can sign Denver all the way from Cheyenne Wells and Salt Lake all the way from Vernal if not Steamboat Springs. I’m aware that Park City will need to be signed after Heber for 189 traffic, but it can be dually signed
We got Todd putting Limon on the way it should be before GTA 6
The first mileage sign on US 40 westbound in Colorado that has Colorado Springs on the top line at 154 and Denver on the bottom line at 190 is a rare Colorado W
Seeing Lawrence Kansas for the first time has been the highlight of my day. Thank you Todd
14:18 Colfax is equivalent to 15th Avenue in the Denver street grid. The 0 line N/S is Ellsworth, which is a pretty mundane street.
I did US40 on my motorcycle from Empire to SLC in June of 2023. Was a great trip.
Oh that sounds awesome!
I kick myself for never trying the chicken fried steak at Rip Griffins in Limon

Happy New Year!
Let's all shout Horray for 2025!!
I like driving on parts of Old 40 from Salina through Hays. :)
As usual for lists that involve significant segments concurrent with Interstates, I’m going to treat U.S. 40 as if it were the primary route.

I knew granby was the most famous of the three you mentioned. Then you mentioned why and I was like, yeah that's why.
I was on this road driving back from that eclipse in April. I was in Cleveland for it
Also all this Denver stuff is making me feel local.

I saw the Moody Blues there for my first concert too! Cheap Trick and Glass Tiger opened
I’ve seen Deep Purple once. It was awesome
Very funny Todd, "it would knock out the Bengals.". 😂 May the better team win. I'm just surprised the Bungles, I mean Bengals are still in the hunt.

Happy new year Todd! It’s been a good one. On a Thursday morning my routine is to watch a ccf video.
Happy new year!

I lived in Oswego in my early childhood so 34 was my childhood road, I now live in NH
i live and work in topeka and we go to lawrence all the time for work and i always wonder if id bump into you somewhere
Limon.. your favorite town.. lol 😆!!
Todd is always very careful not to break any laws in Colorado, because going to jail there means going to Limon!

There's a "special wing" at the Limon Correctional Facility...for those people who make fun of Limon. Be careful of extradition proceedings!
Oh no!
Shout out for New Year's Day "Happy New Year!"
Also US 40 used to be married to I-80 from the intersection east of Salt Lake all the way to San Francisco.
Happy New Year could you do one on US 45 from Mobile Alabama to Ontonagon Michigan
Oh there is going to be more Limon in here. And this time it actually shows up on Todd's the way it should be.
If the signs are close enough can you include the clicking through? It helps me better gauge the distance
Come on Control City Freak, let's shout horray for 2025!
(in baby voice) Hip, hip, huwway fuh 2025, Contwol City Fweak!
i always speculated that kdot rerouted 40 off of 6th street for budgeting reasons, so they don't have to pay money to maintain the road.

6th Street is Lawrence’s Junk Food Alley. :)
23rd Street says hold my beer
Are you gonna do Jacksonville I-295
only if chiefs play jaguars
Next season
Is it haht in Topeka?
You gotta use Bob Dylan’s Highway 61 Revisited for the US-61 video haha

13:18 Don't fool us, the main reason you included this street view is because of the Taco Bell featured. lol
During Chiefs off weeks coming up can you do I-42 to complete all Interstates? Plus would love to see some I-278 action or I-678/878/295 action.
Doing US 40 Supercut
Think I should play Chris Oladokun in fantasy?? 😁
Your league plays Week 18?
@ControlCityFreak ESPN public leagues have a two-round championship in weeks 17 & 18.
When are u doing us30
My guess that for Super Bowl week you will do something New Orleans related.
Limmmmmmmmoooooonnnnnnnn 😂
May the best team win Todd but if there's one thing we can agree on, let's knock the Bengals out of the Playoffs.
Also good to see you refer it as Mile High Stadium because that's what it should be called
I hate the Broncos, but it's a top-5 stadium name.
When life gives you limons make limonade
Not even 48 hours into 2025 and we run into Limon.
Make a left at 20:14 and you will in 20 miles revisit my childhood.
Oh no not Limon smh lol
The theme of the video, Limon is useless lol

I’m aware that Park City will need to be signed after Heber for 189 traffic, but it can be dually signed
True. Honestly could sign Denver from Sharon Springs, 40 is the faster way to Denver from that point.
Anything to show off Lawrence! Rock Chalk Jayhawk!
Dinosaur ought to be a control city simply because of its name. And no to Tonganoxie!
Narrator: The Cheifs lost a meaningless game for them 38-0
Oh no not Limon smh lol
Oh no not Limon smh lol
Oh no not Limon smh lol
Oh no not Limon smh lol
Oh no not Limon smh lol
