I don’t think the problem is GB as an archetype. You just need more cards (like combat tricks or spells) that let your adapt creatures trigger with more versatility than just the expanding oozes. Also, you could’ve picked up the nesting grounds late in pack 3 which would have been monumental in increasing counter synergy with the deck. I feel like the fetid gargantua, which you also could’ve picked, is one of those creatures that can match up more favorably against the massive eldrazi and help you not run out of action. Nice draft though! 👍
I think you're undervaluing Fetid Gargantua, the initial body is meh but it combos with so many other cards to give you an excellent card advantage engine.
I agree. It's obviously not at the power level of say Serum Visionary, but I think you're always happy to run a copy in your less aggressive black decks, particularly black/green and black/white. Every time Paul totally ignores its existence i cry a little inside.
What I really love about Paul's Videos is that he plays not perfect. That makes him appear more human. That you can make mistakes and be still a great player and just an awesome human being, gives the viewer a great opportunity of identification. Thanks for your content ❤
I’m with you on the frustration with that Sorin/Breathe your Last play. So many times I didn’t get to do something like that because I thought it would pass me priority back (especially in second main) and it just marched forward. The times when you do/don’t have to use full hold is often very unintuitive.
Yeah I had a green white adapt / bestow deck splashing for Sorin with a similar kind of style for my pre-release, and I was able to run over some players early, or hold onto dear life most games. But typically got steamrolled when the big eldrazi came into play. Not enough removal to stabilize against big boys.
I agree with you that the power level of this set feels weaker than other Horizons sets, at least relative to "normal" sets. However, I think that's mostly due to the power creep and higher power level we see in normal limited sets recently
@@haumph And now you're telling me how to be! This is outrageous! Luckily we played 5 or more times against eachother, I hope I got my revenge in some of those 😊
I've watched several prerelease draft videos from various people on here, and I have yet to see someone draft the artifacts deck. I'd like to know if it's viable
More than colours, looks like this set thrives on synergies. Which means that there are a lot more explosive rounds, lots more shenanigans and a lot more complexity when drafting. Seems like the Eldrazi decks are the most "straight" - come turn 3-4 they just play massive bruiser turn after turn. Rest seem to need to be able to play under it (like a "proper" modern deck) and get a big advantage by turn 4, build larger synergies (Witness can be triggered almost every turn set up optimally, and the black tutor can bring anything up if there's enough black mana pips). Another thing that's probably going to come up is increased value in small overall damage dealers because they can kill the spawn. Looks exceedingly complex so far and unforgiving so far - like that game with Sorin.
From my experience with this format black has felt like the most underpowered color in the set, mostly because the synergies you can achieve with the other colors are way better.
Black for me is held up by the golgari gold cards + breathe your last and wither and bloom. Just those things makes me think its a bit hard to place as weakest imo
A sixth pick six is a sick sixth pick.

fetid gargantua is great
37:10 Grim Servant to 1 hp was an epic turnaround. This archetype is looking pretty nice
Value!

I agree, the value you can get off all your +1/+1 counter cards and the gargantuan is insane!
11:50 i think not picking the Gargantua here for some diversification in card draw is questionable

Great job coaching mr llama, i used to beat him but last time we matched he def showed improvement and got the best of me 😢

Red was cut cause NCAA in the pod!

Yeah, this set doesn’t feel significantly more powerful than OTJ draft
You are not forgiven.
Aww come on don't be like that!

@@justlolaman I believe you did in the next video haha
Keeping us on our toes with the different upload times. Haha.
Im so happy with the out of time upload
Yeah this was an accident but I guess it’s an early upload for today haha

One: Awesome video as always! Two: I'm coming after a month away and Paul is still trying to force Abzan every draft every format ;P
Sad that the imskir didn’t work out
Yeah. It felt like golgari was where I needed to be sadly
And then we move to lesson Six:
Take me even if I make you mix
The content is great but I'm really here because of the video title. =D
2 removals vs 6 black sources IMO it was better to get the removal :P
Late upload. I like it

I've found red to be the weakest. I just feel like there is so little red can do against a resolved creature with 5 or greater toughness.
