Yay! I know you love Holiday Cube, but my lack of legacy MTG knowledge, paired with the UX and UI of MTGO made for a difficult viewing experience. I will continue to support any content you put out though, but excited to see this.
Hey Paul, merry Xmas. I wanted to pay you a Christmas compliment and point out that your play by play narration of the draft and your plays is incredibly strong, to the point that I can walk my dog and listen along to the draft and games and still follow the action. Great work this year bringing the stream back and looking forward to seeing you grow the channel in 2025 and beyond! ❤
Hey Paul, I totally get wanting to draft more complex sets. You're a magic pro and being able to cook up something is fun. I just want to offer my perspective as a viewer. I started drafting in bloomburrow, duskmourne, and now foundations. I can't really follow MTGO videos because I haven't used it and it's less familiar what is going on. Combine that with not knowing what the cards do and it makes it a less enjoyable viewing experience. Nothing against your gameplay or commentary, but as a casual limited player, the newest standard set is just what I'm going to be drafting and generally the only thing I'm watching. Happy New Year :)
Personally, I'm showing people who are new to the game your vids. You explain everything so well I can basically listen to you as a podcast and still get everything XD. They are trying to learn and pioneer is more complicated. Plus foundations is relevant to the cards they have irl so they learn exciting and different ways to play the cards they have.
Hey Paul! Loving all the content, including the Christmas cube. Though some of the comments, it got me thinking about when I first started playing back at the tail end of beta and the start of revised as a little kid. I couldn't believe the most expensive card at the time, worth a "mind blowing $100," was Black Lotus. I liked the Lord of the Pit more. Thing is if you don't know the context and the strategic layers that it opens up, a first pick mox or other rock doesn't seem that exciting. In contrast, with this Foundations set, your options are a lot more linear and sometimes your opponents just curving out with a lot less strategy will win. Or in your case, a few times this draft getting unlucky with the draws and not really having a lot of agency if you win or lose. Either way, thanks for the hard work and content and happy holidays!
Agreed, Paul got me in the foundations draft mood, then I remembered there are mythic players that splash for double pipped cards. Then get there consistently. I decided to save the gems after that.
Merry Christmas. What about a poll on your Patreon do double check the viewer preferences? Well you have the video views count to get an idea even if it could not be 100% reliable as viewing habbits my change over Christmas holidays.
I thought attacking with the faerie on the turn where you then had to chump with the thespian looked like a mistake, since the 1/1 and 3/1 matched up pretty well against their 4 toughness creatures. Instead of chumping, you would have been able to trade with the Prowler which instead got out of hand. Board would’ve looked much nicer on the turn you scooped, but Loot might’ve gone on to win anyways.
I feel like Blue/Green as a color combo tends to lead to boardstalls in this format.. making overrun a valid pick in drafts to break those board stalls.
It's just a bit too situational for my taste but I can see spots where it's good where you have a bunch of cheap creatures. Especially a deck with burglar rats/helpful hunters.
personally I like PIO most atm, but either foundations or PIO is great! I just have a hard time grokking mtgo’s interface so i’m not a huge fan of vintage cube as a viewer
@@haumph I can handle that. I got busy at work helping peeps. I had meant to type. Mtgo isn't much better, I think it's more of a flaw that MTG itself doesn't lend itself to being on a digital platform very well at all. Probably something about it having been started in the very early 90s before things started being developed with the Internet in mind. I love your videos though Paul. You Luis Kenji keep me in love with MTG and limited.
The second game is why I can't play MTG seriously. Dude just has a double black card in a blue green deck and yet has 2+ of every color by turn 6 and I'm over here drawing 6 plains and no swamps in my 9 swamp/7 plains deck.

Yeah

Happy holidays! Glad you can listen while not watching as that was sort of my goal!

Yeah this is my feeling as well but glad that you said it to confirm my suspicions.
This comment totally sums up my viewing exp as well.
Love your vids, but if 85% of the cards are new to me, I couldn't follow along.

Yes. I prefer foundations until next major paper set is released. Thanks for update Paul
Great content, very knowledgeable and well explained. You've gained a regular viewer.
Thanks! Glad you've enjoyed the content.
Keep alternating, Paul!
i like the mix up. GG!
Great content as always Paul. I'm still enjoying Foundations. Vintage Cube is fun, but MTGO is just such an eyesore.
Yeah Foundations is fun!
What are your thoughts on trying out a bo3 draft in foundations? Would love to see your thought process when it comes to the sideboard.
Would love to see more bo3 too! Not enough of it on TH-cam and I only watch standard BO3 videos

Man got so lost in wanting card draw he forgot he actually needed useful cards to draw 😔😔😔
I think I went a little overboard with card draw
I also like drafting current sets the most.
Good to hear!
I love your foundations videos! Just started 3 weeks ago and your content is much appreciated to learn the ropes of limited! Thank you
Rough draft, but you fought hard to the bitter end!
Good games Paul
ggs
That second game was absolutely brutal

28:00 straight up forgot to play your land which you could have looted with
can't wait to see you try and win some boxes of bloomburrow
I faced someone today who had Lilly and Muldrotha, I was out of removal, I could attack and kill Lilly, but they could just replay it.
Thespian is so bad, I see what you mean, Paul. It’s bad against weenies and red/green. Felt like the growth could’ve done something here
I feel like Blue/Green as a color combo tends to lead to boardstalls in this format.. making overrun a valid pick in drafts to break those board stalls.
Paul you always pick on Run Away Together as a bad card, but I think you may be underrating it. It's a kill spell against Kiora's token for instance.
It's just a bit too situational for my taste but I can see spots where it's good where you have a bunch of cheap creatures. Especially a deck with burglar rats/helpful hunters.
Looks like you could have also been UR spells
I feel bad, Paul. I know it's boring for you. But I don't play a lot and I like a simple format and I know the foundations cards by now. :)
Could this have been a UB deck pivoting from green in the last pack?
possibly
That deck really could have used the overrrun. I think you and many others value curve, tempo and efficiency too much over raw power at times.
personally I like PIO most atm, but either foundations or PIO is great! I just have a hard time grokking mtgo’s interface so i’m not a huge fan of vintage cube as a viewer
I think you lost it in the draft sadly. Went heavy on card draw without having any kind of top end.
probably
I don't have any interest in Pioneer because it isn't the set I play in person on fridays
Completely understandable. So sad that Aetherdrift doesn't come out sooner!
@@haumph I have been enjoying foundations more than most people because of locally drafting, I am sure it has gotten pretty dry for others.
the picks the bots do in quick draft just dont reflect reality
I'd like to offer a different opinion it seems. Arena is the worst way to experience MTG. I loath it.
you're in the minority i believe
@@haumph I can handle that. I got busy at work helping peeps. I had meant to type.

Ah, much prefer Pioneer or Cube. Foundations is just a bit bland.
