I also recently learned this at 48:50! If you are above 20 at the end of combat it will essentially "gain" a toughness. Your OPPs don't usually know it either so it makes for some big blow out opportunities. Like you could've not played fake there and been totally fine
@ I mean bank on it in the sense that they would make bad blocks, as his OP did here... If they made a good block then Paul had the combat trick to back it up
Hey Paul, long time listener, first time caller---at 47:40, if you had attacked with the Elenda and they blocked with the Boarders, wouldn't your life total have gone up to 21, giving Elenda +1/+1 and keeping her alive?
Needed some Paul draft pick me up. Last night I did a quick draft of OTJ cuz I didn’t get to play that set and it has some of my favorite cards. Well I drafted a sweet Abzan deck and I was like okay this is gonna be at least 4/5 wins, only went 1-3😂 I was so sad.
Nice draft! I liked how you stayed on course for W/B during the draft even though blue was very tempting (but a trap in this draft). For deck construction, I would have swapped out meteor golem for campus guide due to mana curve (you have 10 4+ drops in your configuration). Campus guide is a nice speed bump, and can get you land toward your tier 1 bombs and also an additional target for Sunblessed-Healer.
a cool interaction you could've done in the seventh game is you could've safely attacked with elenda into the goblin boarders instead of removing it you will gain the life at the same time as damage resolves onto elenda so if you go above 20 life she will turn into a 5/5 at that moment and outgrow the 4 damage dont think many people know that's how she works because i've blown out so many people in this format with that
I exit games REAL quick when I keep like a super spicy 2 lander that really just needs 1 more to go off and then I go several draws without one or something along those lines. I say, welp, Arena doesn’t want me to actually play the game
Hi Paul, I'm kind of a new player and wanted to ask. At the 45 minute mark, you drew Seekers folly with 3 HP left. He attacked with only his 3/3 and you conceded. Could you have cast the Seekers Folly for the -1/-1 and lived with 1hp, then won on the crack back? Sorry if I'm missing something obvious, I thought it was a great game and awesome draft as usual!
Yeah, that second pick of the draft with 4 strong white cards definitely put a few people to the left of you in white who maybe shouldnt have been. Pack 3 pick 1, there was 4 ok+ white cards in that pack, but Joust through and Squad rallier did not wheel, so there might have been as many 4 white drafters at that table.
Lovely deck and gameplay! I Really dislike the Meteor Golem in that deck. Would probably had swapped in the second zombie for it and then the Waltz for the Soulcaller.
I always get confused when I hear, for example, "its a late Kiora" but you're only the 3rd person to see that card I feel like the odds are reasonably high that the two people ahead of you just weren't in blue and couldn't justify taking her Other than "my two opponents to my right aren't in blue," what insight makes it feel like a "late kiora"?
Everybody wants to talk shit about Witness Protection
... until Elenda hits the field.
Legitimate businesspersons are the best.
That poor player clearly forgot that the Sire has first strike. Ouch.
Grats on the trophy and I love seeing you get a win like this near the end of Foundations' main arc. Happy holidays man!!
Same to you!

i certainly wouldn't bank on people not knowing how state based checks work when running your combat math

Yes. Because of how state-based effects work, she would have lived even if they blocked there.

To the izzet opponents defence, the sire has a LOT of keywords :D it can be easy to miss it

big “call an ambulance, but not for me” energy from the title, let’s goooo
That “I do apologize” was too much for Paul 😂😂
Gutless Plunderer is great when you have bombs to search for. Happy you decided to keep it.

We don't mind you exiting games Paul. No one enjoys playing the game when we can't actually play.

Sorcery
@haumph - Doh! Of course! 😅
I feel like no matter how insane your hand is, discarding Embercleave just can't ever be correct unless you have 2 of them in your hand.

You have one sacrifice synergy. The Blasphemous Edict.
Still, agree cutting the 1/1.
Cheon whats ur thot on the plunderer i feel like it setting you up to draw something nice plus being sble to block big creatures makes it rlly good
paul do you think pioneer masters is gonna be better for limited?
no clue.
Lovely deck and gameplay!

Any reason you've gone back to foundations?
people seem to like it more
Get Paul to 100k !!!!!
Am I missing something or can you not Fake your own Death on Elenda, cause hexproof from instants? not just opponents instants.
hexproof only affects your opponents, it is not shroud =)
It’s not from a place of schadenfreude, but it’s nice to know that the Arena shuffler can bring low even great players like Mr Cheon 😢
Call me carzy, but I've noticed having at least a dual or any utility land prevents the all off color lands-spell opening hands.
Sire of seven wins lol. Nice draft.
TIL hexproof only counts for opponent's spells 😂
great draft. congrats
Thanks for watching!

it's the type of card people take very early.
@haumph I understand that normally, but you were on P3P3. Don't most people pass rares that aren't in their colors at that point?
lol bro better watch your back this week, you used up all your luck with those crazy pulls hahaha
Yeah it was crazy!
Honestly should have been a 1 guide instead of 1 sage deck ' as soon i wrote this you considered it too ❤
It stinks when you draft an amazing deck and MTGA says you shall not play your cards this game :D
It happens sometimes haha
Im confused how is kiora gems?
If you have 4x of a card you get gems
Very strong draft.
no i dont mind, game two what the hell
pisted off for you pau, pisted off for you
pack 2 picks 1 and 2 hello??????
I do Like helpful Hunter over valkery
Very nice deck
Thanks!
those packs were ridiculous lol
sure was!
ive watched you and nummy for months,, you always get what you need and he always gets screwed,, hmmm
hahaha I've been seeing nummy get so mana screwed recently.
Yeah, Nummy pretty unlucky lately. The salt 🧂 is strong
Arena Shuffler is Disgusting 🤢🤬
why u drafting these when theres a new expansion?
was probably prerecorded
The land system is definately a weak point of this game. Might need some rules change and dual land buff.
