Great video! My dad and I just wrapped up replacing the transfer case in my stock 2006 Duramax CCSB (driveline clunking... grinding noises... no oil... pump rub) at 275k miles. California truck... so stock exhaust and suspension under there. The video with Mark at Kodiak Truck sold me on his product! Dad and I are both competent and confident hobbyist mechanics, but your videos on removal/install really paved the road for our project and saved us time and unnecessary damage to the fragile electrical connections. We had the project turned around in four hours, excluding u-joints.
I couldn't source a 15mm flex-head, ratcheting wrench on time, so we got by with a standard wrench (one or two bolts on the t-case/adapter accepted a standard socket/ratchet). If anyone is reading this in preparation for their own t-case swap- Do yourself a favor and order a flex head ratchet wrench on Amazon or something lol. We spent an hour just unbolting/bolting the t-case to the adapter.
On a stock truck the torsion bars run ABOVE the transmission crossmember, so we did remove the entire crossmember and left the transmission supported by a hydraulic jack until the new t-case was secured. It was nice having the crossmember out of the way.
Also- I purchased and installed the transmission-transfer case brace (Merchant Auto)... In my opinion this should have been a factory part. (My 1986 Suburban 4x4 had a trans/tcase brace from the factory... every full size truck should).
Anyway... thanks again for the video! Subscribed and looking forward to watching more videos from this channel.
When he says you need a 15mm swivel ratcheting wrench you better get one like your life depends on it. And get either a 15mm stubby with a boxed end or cut a regular one down for that top nut.
Great video and thanks for recommendation. Mark is awesome and my Kodiak arrives tomorrow! Appreciate all your videos. Relatively new LBZ owner and you helped me bring that monster to life!
Been excited about seeing this!
Me too
Good job, get ready for some more snow !
Your duramax looks so much better than the new ones.
I agree
Great video again Josh
Nice job bro..u make it look easy..!!👍👏
@truckmaster removing the speed sensor and filling the t case through the speed sensor hole is much easier. You can remove the fill plug to check the level.
No, I use the fill plug to drain, I keep it plum full.
lol
That’s one 💪🏻heavy duty transfer case 👊🏻
Awesome job Josh
Can't wait for the test drive!
Amazing. Man, you make it seem so easy.
I think it’s because of the edits this took me hours
@@TruckMaster haha That makes sense, I'm in the middle of installing mine and I'm thinking that theres no way it only took him 5 minutes to get it in
Looks great!
Great Video Do you have part numbers for the u-joint and slip yoke?
I am glad to see this hope I don’t have to pull mind great job
Nice job, you could all ways see if she up to it, I think she will since she wanted the 5 inch exhaust back on it
Hey, thanks for these videos! I have pulled my transfer case from my truck (‘03 Chevy 2500HD LB7 Duramax). Kodiak did not have a 263XHD in stock. I am putting a Merchant Automotive unit in.
The gasket between the trans and tcase was very stuck on the trans side.. only obstacle so far. Going to get a plastic scraper and brake cleaner or something and try to get it off without affecting the aluminum.
I unclipped the metal ring clip on the end of the boot for the front drive shaft to remove the whole thing more easily. How did that part of the process go when putting it back on? Hoping I can snap that clip back on. Thanks
I’m doing this job this week. When reinstalling do you need to torque everything or just make sure everything is tight
Another great video my friend! Just wondering, do you own a press? This is one of the best tools I ever purchased.
You’ve picked the best..
Great Video. Any update on the transfer case? My transfer case needs a replacement. Thanks
Gonna change fluid on stock Transfer case on my LMM. I’ve done it two times already with 124,000 on it.
Josh is it better to use 5w 30 on stock transfer case?
Love: the channel bro
Hey man do you put the gasket directly on the t case or in transmission hope you answer soon
Awesome video
Yes let the wife fill it and ask her since she loves the 5 inch exhaust to help install that keep up the great videos
How far can you jack up the transmission to get to that bolt?
do you to lubricant between transfer case and transmission ?
is there a gasket between the trans and transfer case? didnt show it
Great video. I’m going to do mine next. Mark we’re did you get the transmission supports at
Thanks! Check out PPE Diesel they sell them
Thank ya
How many hrs did the whole job take? Removing old one, to finish.
What slip yoke did you use?
awesome good job
What do you know about converting a Duramax 1002 wheel drive into a 4-wheel drive with a addition of a transfer case and front differential? And slight modification?
Don’t do it lol. Been there it’s not worth it haha
Nice and easy 👍
I have built my 05’ Dually into a show truck and it will NEVER see dirt again so I want to lighten the weight of the truck so I wanted to remove the transfer case and all 4WD parts and wondering if that’s possible to remove that transfer case and put a 2WD tail piece on the trans to save weight. I’m sure all of it weights around 200lbs and it’s just wasting gas.
@truckmaster “ I need to spray paint that”🤣
At least someone caught that 😂
#FSinister
@@chakagillis What's all the hate for sinister? Am I missing something?
Great video I just started to leak from the bolts 🤦🏻♂️
That’s not good
Woot woot 🍾🇺🇸
Let the wife fill up the trans case, great video!
what can oil use on it ?
I ordered my Kodak t case and it will be here Friday I’m gonna install it myself is there a gasket that I will need to replace this is my first time ever doing this
Kodiak should have a gasket that comes with it
The first Cap safety clip you installed was not properly seated in the grove. You can tell by the gap between the ends in the center.
I fixed that after I stop filming
First thing I noticeed ..besides the injectors direct sticker
Awesome.
Why do they want you to run such a low viscosity oil in the tcase when it doesn’t get serviced regularly
Nice bro. Put the 5” straight pipe on next 🤘🏼
D_rod D_max I’m on it
Transmission jack who?? Dudes a beast
😂👍
Or use a stubby open ended wrench
You are 💪. You bent that Vice handle with you bare hands. I wouldn’t want to meet you in a dark alley
Lol
Good job gosh
Gasket or RTV????
Where did you get the transfer case from? Couldn't find it in the description.
You didn’t watch the video or read any of the comments?
Spray paint over the sinister diesel logo??? Bad blood???? Anyway nice install video
Hi I am looking to get a Duramax what do I look out for thanks mike
Watch my video about what to look for when buying a used diesel video
Sounds like Mr Rogers Neighborhood, except worth diesels. 🤠
Does the front driveshaft not need to be rebalanced when being put back in?
Yes but I’m going to take chances
Why on earth would it? Neither driveshaft is balanced as an assembly.
Fill it up and put out the video tonight.
Looks like you better get on that chassis, and fix the rust...👍
I know I know
@@TruckMaster just giving you some shit.....great videos.
Living in a state that salts roads is tough. I gave up on painting my frames and just started putting the spray grease to them. Doesn’t wash away like fluid film and I’d rather be dirty working on my truck than have to buy a new truck due to rust
Stickers
What size flex head ratcheting wrench?
It’s a 15
15
Wens the built trans coming now
I already have one
Guess i missed that video
Why is it better to have non-grease-able u-joints? I know spicer are great u joints as they are what comes from the factory, but being non grease-able you cannot service them to make sure they are not running dry or with old grease. What kills the needle bearing is becoming dry of grease
I guess I see your point I just figured less to maintain but your right you can’t maintenance them
grease-able joints deflect to let the grease out and deflect to let debris in. the non grease able forged joints are the beast and strongest. Most people never grease there grease able`s causing them to fail. Mine are still original at 178k. Give them a try i think you would be happy.
I'm seeing a lot of 101st stuff... dont make us look bad with 80lbs haha
Drop that cross member out
How about checking oil
Next video
Nice truck I’ve been wanting a dmax
should have done the rear u joint
I already installed a new one 👌
This is an old video but if anyone can point me in the direction of a good used rear driveshaft that would be great. I’ve called every junk yard around me to find one with zero luck. Not trying to spend a fortune on a new one. Just want my truck to stop vibrating before I tear something up 😫 I’m in north Alabama area. 05 crewcab, short bed.
How much do you think shipping cost him ? Hahahah
Hi There.need bring to dealer reprogram?
Huh?
That's crazy it saids to use motor oil to fill the transfer case?
It's actually quite common, and or regular automatic transmission fluid.
@@2015_Rubicnn ya ive always used transmission fluid
@@geraldwhite2912 Honda manual transmissions call for engine oil basically.
It's discussed in the t-case video he put out previously.
Are you asking a question or making a statement?
Hopefully you put t6 in that badboy
Kodiak
Josh have Melanie fill the transfer case
I will try 😂
Truck Master nice to hear
Josh
Buy DML Stickers = More Content to view
That is very true
This is why I change my transfer case oil regularly. So I don't have to do this.
why is the Kodiak better than the merchant automotive
👍
Dis you use blue spray paint? Lol
Oh yeah
@TruckMaster I must have missed something. What's the hate for sinister diesel?
