Doctor Who Mocked After She-Hulk Level Pandering

  • Doctor Who has been slammed by fans all over the internet, after the Doctor Who The Star Beast episode dropped to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the series, this episode was also in collaboration with Disney. However fans are angry as David Tennant returned for this Doctor Who episode but was treated horribly and made fun of just for being a man in the episode. Fans are saying this is just propoganda to push a female Doctor Who and make her look better, however I am more angry with the simple fact that it's just horrible writing and storytelling and destroyed one of the greatest shows to have ever existed.

It's pretty obvious that the current writers and show runners have a huge problem with the Doctor being both a male and usually white. You can trace it all the way back to about mid-way through Matt Smith's run when Clara showed up. His companions were always clever and added interesting and creative solutions to the problems they faced, but Clara was the start of trying to make the doctor look more ignorant and feeble compared to a strong woman. This persisted all the way through Peter Capaldi's run and it's one of the reasons Clara was generally not well received by fans.
Then of course you have Jodi's run as the Doctor, which was consistently the lowest rated and lowest viewed in the shows entire history. Not because the Doctor was a woman, but because the writing was atrocious and cared more about pushing every social narrative it could. It's sad really, because shows like this have such great potential to really highlight this stuff, just look at past Dr. Who or the original Quantum Leap. Tackling social issues with good writing and common sense but all that seems to matter now is that the message is made clear, if you're a white male you're subhuman and you should feel horrible for even being associated with the patriarchy. The fact they actually state that the Doctor couldn't understand because he's "male presenting" just shows the utter hubris and ignorance of these people. He's thousands of years old, has been multiple people including a woman, and yet he couldn't understand? To imply that some 15 year old understands more about the universe than the person who's literally saved it for millennia simply because they are non-binary is vomit inducing.
I had a lot of hope for this show when I heard the former cast and crew were returning, I even had hope for the next doctor, but after this it's blatantly clear that they want nothing more than to completely destroy this entire series.

They are therefore making their opinions public and trying to profit from the public reaction. If they are going to politicise their "art" in these ways then they can damn well expect to be criticised for doing so.

Ironic indeed, considering the Doctor CANNOT CHOOSE the identity or look of his body, meaning he has no choice but to identify in the moment of whatever the hell his body is. Like, even if the Doctor was experiencing dysphoria, it'd either end up with a grim case of the doctor doing something to try and change gender (unaliving), or having to somehow physically change gender without doing that, and then it being undone when they regenerate. I have to say this - I used to be a HUGE Doctor Who Fan. David Tennant was MY Doctor. So when he regenerated into Mat Smith i was already kind of .. not liking it. but i gave Matt a Chance and he was really good. What i didn't like that Amy, River and Clara treated the Doctor like he was stupid and they knew better than he did. You didn't really get that w/Rose, Martha and Donna (Oh they gave the doctor clap back but it was more a give and take, and they didn't know MORE than you know the 900 year old alien).
then Peter Capaldi came in and it was more of the same, and I was just... not here for that. Then people clammoured for a woman doctor, and I remember saying that this wouldn't be a good idea for NUMEROUS reasons [#1 being that i don't think the writers would have the care it would take to write for a "female alien doctor who can be kind of douchey at times without it coming off in just being a cow, and she'd never take the heat for it - as much as a Male doctor can, which would hurt the development OF said Doctor.]. i was told i was wrong and then we have Jodi Wittaker (whom i liked in Broadchurch) basically being a cow of a doctor and making horrendous decisions]. Oh did i mention this is on top of the show continually to poop on any male character that they could? who wants to see that? Not me so i just stopped watching.
and I will admit. they caught me. it was RTD coming back, with David and my favourite companion in Donna, and the 15th Doctor seemed kinda interesting [in theory] and i was like. okay.... yes! i'll try it. and it's gonna be on disney+ so that's okay i have that idon't have to struggle to find it else where... and i saw 15 minutes and i was.. What? What? WHAT?! and turned it off. sorry just. no. I am a woman and I never once felt the need to tell a man "if you were a woman, you would get it." unless i was talking about you know. actual bodily functions or something.

Pandering aside (as difficult as that may be), there was too much to wince at,
    - Meep sounding like the child of Dobbie and K9, and was obviously the baddie, but apparently that was meant to be a twist
    - Affable older-black-guy-day, slightly out of touch granny, geeky nerd kid, boo-hiss screen bullies are all tropes all that were mined with carefree abandon
    - "This is a sonic screwdriver, and if it's good at one thing, it's resonating concrete"...... the validity of his concrete remark may have been more pertinent had he not said it just moments after he used the same screwdriver to conjure laser-grade force fields from thin air within seconds🙄
    - Did anyone believe that giant rubber insect legged aliens wanted meep fur? ..... What exactly for ... to make curtains, to line their car seats, for toupés ?
    - Donna, who apparently "misses everything that ever happens" when a spaceship crashes above her head, spots the motionless meep in a shed hidden amongst a pile of soft toys
    - The lava-cracks only went through the roads in the middle of a compact metropolis, which then got magically reversed
    - The screwdriver is not a magic wand.
    - The 1,000 year old mega-space genius constantly looking baffled until the final 15 minutes when someone fresh out of a mediocre drama school shows him the way - is wearing a little thin
    - Donna yelling "What the HELL is that?" is numbing to hear once let alone multiple times in the one episode
    - It had obviously landed, it didn't need Space-Gandalf to confirm it
    - The baddies yelling about reigns of terror is insulting the intelligence of the viewer, even if the viewers are kids.
    - How does a wheelchair fire two stun darts in quick succession to two different necks with absolute pinpoint accuracy .... and rockets have a kickback (Newtons Third Law) and thrown the chair or violently tipped her over.
    - Speaking of laws, whatever happened to the law of "Show Don't Tell" from filmmaking 101?
    - It was just and exhaustive 50 minutes of fan-fondling.
and the viewership figures will repeat the same pattern of season decline. And I used to think that would be a shame. But now I think it is so tired and empty, and it just needs putting to bed.

There was no subtlety in the plot around this. All we got was: Race-tick, Gender-tick, Gender Assignment-tick, Religion tick, Disability-tick and little effort in celebrating Dr. Who. My wife and I cringed with the Disney 'Whoniverse' title sequence. Also, The Meep is voiced by well known actor and author Miriam Margolyes. Who is gay. That wasn't pushed to the fore/virtue signalled, so why everything else? All the guff and worthiness did spoil it all alas. Should have been a blast. I miss when Doctor Who ten years anniversaries meant we were going to see a really cool overwhelming villain (despite any mental or physical handicaps, they were cool and menacing which is what defined the character), and The Doctor would need help from previous incarnations of The Doctor (played by previous actors). There would be fun references to what came before, and it would be about the adventure...not current day political beliefs that alienate those who think differently.
I also miss when Doctor Who was meant to be a family show about a being going on adventures through space and time. Before The Doctor began trying to sleep with his companions, he used to travel with both male and female companions regularly and never once did any character use their sexuality to save the day. Laughable.

As a trans person, they had the chance to go "This feels rude and blatantly disrespectful, not to mention pretty contrived and forced. Is there a way we can go about this that doesn't devalue men/non-trans individuals who might not be aware of these issues/fully understand them?" Instead they looked at it and went "OH I CAN INSULT THE POSTER CHILD OF NEW-WHO FOR BEING A DUDE? AWESOME!" and ran with it. As for me. I did like the part with the pronoun and the Meep, and the Meep saying it was the, that was foreshadowing as "the" is the pronoun villains tend to use, yet also something the doctor does. So that worked well for me.
I also liked how they used it as a solution to the meta crisis, that felt like some fun, classic gender magic and tied it all to the Doctors complex and expansive nature. That also worked well for me even if it was a bit deus ex machina, but hey it is RTD.
What did not work at all for me was those two comments at the end, those where really bad. Do not tell people they are the wrong gender. It is the opposite of what should be done to improve things and how we should treat each other. And it was such a shame as they had to me been interesting and lovely regarding the subject before that. And it makes people also look at the other instances in a different light.
