None of the current controllers, or even full CDJ's will ever do live Stem analysis. The Qualcomm CPU's simply do not have the power to do this. You would need a controller with a Intel i7 CPU which of course will never exist. So fair enough really doing them ahead of time. A very welcome update !.
you can do live stems with a controller if the laptop it's connected to has a good enough GPU (like a gaming laptop). there are definitely ARM CPUs fast enough for live stems separation but there will eventually come a point where you'll need active cooling like a fan of some kind to cool down the chip to process these stems and that's probably why manufacturers aren't too keen on putting crazy fast CPUs into these devices
I’d say cpu isn’t the problem. We already have good enough ARMs. The issue is the price (fast cpu, ram, better cooling), pro units are already crazy expensive. Imagine if they’d cost twice the price ;) It’s smart to prepare it all on PC. IMO they should let us use lower quality stems on unit itself (at least to cut off the vocals, leave acapella).

No, the stems beta was made available for the 4+ because Denon wanted a small test group. They never said the full release would be exclusive to the 4+
It was never their main marketing reason, it actually had been leaked by a shop by accident. Also, the more devices support it, the better it is for further feedback and improvements. The $10 solution is fair. Pioneer would never offer that.
There is no denying that it was a huge selling point for the device. Some people even upgraded from 4 to 4+ for live stem potential. Turned out live separation is completely unnecessary for now
Amazing to see this come to the Prime 4+ finally! Would like the option of either pre-rendering the stems before export or using the far lower quality live stems from the beta on the Prime 4+ however, but I can't say no to this.

Hi Phil. Game changer! But I see Denon changing its format on free updates and software versions. In which all Dj software is doing now. All well nothing good last forever!!😂
It's gonna be $9.90. Paid once for a life time license. From the Engine Stems FAQ. Will also install a third party tool in to Engine at first time use of stems.
Since VDJ can export in a format that EngineOS equipment can read, and VDJ included stems separation in this export from the beginning (on top of exporting the full track), this has been possible for several years. I've done it on my MixStream Pro since i got it a couple of years ago
This is true, but did you not have to just load the stem up like a song on another channel? Having buttons toggle the stems on and off, both on the GUI and the performance pads, make this a bit more handy. But I agree, I've done it that way for years.
I have the Prime Go and I'm totally all-for a one time fee for the additional feature. No subscription is always going to win in my book, even if the features should just come standard for free. One time is better than ALL the time
I just purchased the Prime 4 plus a couple of weeks ago after deciding to rid of Pioneer SA's and the whole stems feature in general. What a nice surprise from Denon. This route for stems is perfectly fine with me. I would rather not have the unit struggling with the process. I always go big with SSD drives so I'm ready. I'm a techy guy so I don't care for familiarity, I welcome new features. Thanks for the Vid Phil!!
I think the reason prime 4 plus users get it for free is the investment in new gear and a little thank-you for the beta testers for waiting so long It is the right way to do it given the limitations on hardware. It is still relatively new and stems extraction will get better over time. I suspect the development cost and maybe third party extraction software might be the reason other need to pay. If they keep the price one time and low I don't think that will be a problem for most. Especially if it develops and gets better.
Good stop gap. I can’t say I mind too much paying for it as I’ve had my prime 4 for years and they’ve been pumping out a lot of upgrades for free. Echo out would be huge or being able to control them with the eq knobs.
Nice little snag to get sales back from the XDJ-AZ. I bet they release a whole new Prime unit next year, but hopefully more of an upgrade than the pointless "+" version of the Prime Go... don't want to wait though! Black friday deals are slipping away!
Seems like I can’t download the Stems processor in the Engine desktop software. It keeps saying I connection failed but my internet is working perfectly…any idea what could be happening and how to fix it?
I said to a buddy of mine about 8 months ago that the hold-up with STEMS was because Denon Engine developers realized pre-analyzed was the better way to go. So, there is one thing i predicted right, so here's my next prediction. Anyone notice you can't find NEW SC6000/6000M's on any website but one? I smell some fresh new gear coming soon.
As from mine perspective, one-time payment is valid for this kind of improvement since all the hardware getting constant updates, so it should be paid somehow. I'm pretty sure that analysis on the hardware itself coming soon.
@digitaldjtips is there anyway to keep your bps that you have fixed up during your music being re-analysed or will that data be lost? I play a lot of older music and the bps engine analysed weren’t always correct and I fixed them. Thanks 😊
Great news, I wonder how this works in practice and whether Engine is able to make "clean" stems without too much artifacts/noise. Paying $10 for it does seem like a bargain to me as it opens up such a wide range of new performing options when you're able to combine vocals with any track. It bothers me a lot that you can't preview the stems from the desktop software though, that seems like a big missed opportunity. Especially since I don't have the 4+ and now apparantly have to wait for it to be released (I'm on the SC Live 4). The ability to export stems as separate .wav-files would be something I would really like, especially since I'm forced to switch to Pioneer/Rekordbox all the time for club setups. But I'm not sure if it's possible directly(?). Of course you can just play the vocal stem track from the controller and record it from there, but it seems like an unnecessary hassle so I hope Denon enables this QoL feature.
As a mobile DJ (not club) that up until now uses a laptop with music on the internal storage, what is the best way to store my music going forward with stand alone? HDD, SSD, USB or SD? I have quite a large library that will potentially triple in size once the stems and soundswitch data has been loaded.
It's about time as i have started to use stems in djay pro but looking to get a standalone unit. The only bug for me is the vocals being on the left and the drums on the right. Any instance of stems I have used has been low end on left up to the right.
An Engine DJ rep commented on their TH-cam video that stems will run a whopping, completely unreasonable $9.97 for a lifetime license. Unreal! Do they think we're trillionaires?!
My collection has been bulk converted from Rekordbox 'through' Lexicon (to preserve both hot cues and memory cues). These tracks refuse to be converted into stems. Everything I added to the collection manually since, works. So I either have to wait for a solution or rebuild the whole collection...

@IcemanTheDJ I’m awake trust me you should get a new alarm clock haha I never said anything about using it being free to use professionally or with equipment; that you have to pay for yes. What I am saying is that the same functionality Phil is talking about in the video, the ability to analyze and separate stems, is completely free to use in VDJ without the need for any DJ equipment. Just download it to your computer and give it a go! Completely free :)
I'm glad to hear that, but the 4.1 update has made my Live 4 unusable. It freezes regularly, and when that happens, nothing works except the display. The support keeps delaying a solution, and the 4.2 update hasn't improved anything. This is slowly becoming detrimental to my business.
Try downloading 4.0 onto a USB stick and downgrade the firmware, then upgrade it again. My live 4 played up with a recent firmware update but a reinstall fixed the issue. Although hopefully the release in December will have a fix if you can wait that long.
It's s shame we can't play stems tracks via wifi pc engine os desktop. Having to export onto usb takes forever. Can't even export a new track, 1 at a time to an existing playlist on usb, so exporting entire playlists with stem seperation files is gonna take even longer.
I seem to recall us talking about this taking a couple years before this appeared on hardware. (prep process to get the stems ready on the loaptop ahead of time aside). Good step in the right direction, but it be better if Streaming Services could be analyzed ( in general like rekordbox ) and with Steam separation . Hope there will choose a small one time payment instead of subscription. Else it gonna be problematic 😑
Anyone else thinking Alpha Theta might need to up their game. I got rid on my Prime 4 for an RX3, due to having an RX2 as well, might have regrets that now.
Not sure you understood but your just using the computer to "analyze" the music but once analyzed you put in on a flash drive or memory card and load it onto your actual hardware. You don't play it from your computer. Well at least that's what I understood and will do so with my original Prime 4. 😊👍
It costs $10. Which is a fair price to pay as long as it works. Hopefully not paying a fee for new and upcoming features though otherwise it could start to get out of control. In today economic state world wide. People cant afford a lot.

This route for stems is perfectly fine with me. I would rather not have the unit struggling with the process. I always go big with SSD drives so I'm ready. I'm a techy guy so I don't care for familiarity, I welcome new features. Thanks for the Vid Phil!!
Great to hear! Enjoy it Tommy.
I think the reason prime 4 plus users get it for free is the investment in new gear and a little thank-you for the beta testers for waiting so long
It is the right way to do it given the limitations on hardware. It is still relatively new and stems extraction will get better over time.
I suspect the development cost and maybe third party extraction software might be the reason other need to pay. If they keep the price one time and low I don't think that will be a problem for most. Especially if it develops and gets better.
Definitely a nice thing to do for Prime4+ users who were always promised a solution.
Good stop gap. I can’t say I mind too much paying for it as I’ve had my prime 4 for years and they’ve been pumping out a lot of upgrades for free. Echo out would be huge or being able to control them with the eq knobs.
Yes, both would be cool!
Nice little snag to get sales back from the XDJ-AZ. I bet they release a whole new Prime unit next year, but hopefully more of an upgrade than the pointless "+" version of the Prime Go... don't want to wait though! Black friday deals are slipping away!
Maybe...
Seems like I can’t download the Stems processor in the Engine desktop software. It keeps saying I connection failed but my internet is working perfectly…any idea what could be happening and how to fix it?
Sorry, no!
I smell some fresh new gear coming soon.
...or they'll just abandon this sector, it's a hard sell trying to nudge Pioneer DJ out of the pro booth
As from mine perspective, one-time payment is valid for this kind of improvement since all the hardware getting constant updates, so it should be paid somehow. I'm pretty sure that analysis on the hardware itself coming soon.
Oh it will come soon enough for sure, but for now this seems fair/works well
do you think this is why they left the performance pads on the bottom for the xdj az, because alpha theta are thinking of inevitably releasing this?
Ooooh good question, no I think it is to maintain what did well on the XZ.
I have the sc6000ms with the x1850 mixer love it will never have to uograde for time to come
Good to hear!
Je l ai acheté est cela ne fonctionne pas sur la prime 4 elle veux rien savoir 🙃
@digitaldjtips is there anyway to keep your bps that you have fixed up during your music being re-analysed or will that data be lost? I play a lot of older music and the bps engine analysed weren’t always correct and I fixed them. Thanks 😊
Yes I believe this won't alter your beatgrids
All good requests. I can reassure you that the quality is as good as anyone's, give or take.
As a mobile DJ (not club) that up until now uses a laptop with music on the internal storage, what is the best way to store my music going forward with stand alone? HDD, SSD, USB or SD? I have quite a large library that will potentially triple in size once the stems and soundswitch data has been loaded.
A large SD always works for me, Prime 4+ lets you fit an internal SSD too.
Anyone knows where the stems file will be saved on your computer? I dont want them on my small C drive.
There
does it work well on SC Live 4 or do you need a more powerful Prime 2+?
Will work on SC Live 4 when it comers out in a few days for all other Engine DJ gear.
I' a Prime 4+ owner, but even if I wasn't I wouldn't mind the $10 one time fee because Engine has been great.
Yeah, a common sentiment!
It's about time as i have started to use stems in djay pro but looking to get a standalone unit. The only bug for me is the vocals being on the left and the drums on the right. Any instance of stems I have used has been low end on left up to the right.
I am sure you'd get used to it!
This is what XDJ - AZ should've been
There's nothing stopping AT introducing this of course
An Engine DJ rep commented on their TH-cam video that stems will run a whopping, completely unreasonable $9.97 for a lifetime license. Unreal! Do they think we're trillionaires?!
🤣
will this feature work on the opus quad ?
?
My collection has been bulk converted from Rekordbox 'through' Lexicon (to preserve both hot cues and memory cues). These tracks refuse to be converted into stems. Everything I added to the collection manually since, works. So I either have to wait for a solution or rebuild the whole collection...
There must be a solution... maybe ask the Lexicon support?
Thanks for your response. It seems they are already on it. It's just a matter of time. For now I have work around it if I want to use stems
Will these stems work with music i have stored on my laptop over wifi using my laptop as music source.? Or do i need to put them on a USB drive.
It seems you need to put them on a USB drive.
Tidal state that when you add the dj extension to your subscription you can use stems. I took that as they are stems really?
That is with software, it won't work on standalones
Lovely!!
Are we gonna gonna get a prime 2+
No word on that
"All other Numark and Denon DJ standalone hardware users will be able to playback Stems on December 11th after purchasing a one-time Stems unlock license ($9.99 USD.) "
Yes, that was announced since we made the vid (the price)
@@digitaldjtips Thanks, oversight on my part.
If only the format of the saved stems was cross compatible between products. Nobody wants to generate stems separately for each product they own.
Although to be fair, most people stick to one platform generally. Good point though!
Sounds like you don't have an internal sata drive installed and why you have to use flash drive.
Not sure what you're saying here
what about the prime go plus
Yes, will come for that
@digitaldjtips will it be free for the go plus as well?
Can the stems be exported from Engine? E.g., acapella into Logic Pro?
Not easily
I hope they get that for the Opus
Prediction: It won't happen (we'd love to be proved wrong).
According to Mojaxx, it will cost a time fee of 10 dollars for the stems software upgrade on other Denon players
That's correct, it wasn't confirmed when we made our video so we couldn't say.
I’m told it’s 10 dollars - which is more than fair!
But VDJ is free and has way better stems
@@jakl10 VDJ is not free if you use it with controller! Wake up!
"If you are not using it professionally, and do not use any professional equipment like a DJ controller, or a DJ mixer, then VirtualDJ is FREE."
@@jakl10 "But VDJ is free and has way better stems"
@@jakl10 just stop spamming your nonsense everywhere. Gosh, VDJ fanboys are worse than Linux fanboys.
Hey
Didn't Natives Instrments start stems ?
Kind of... long story.
@@digitaldjtips So thats ahhh Yes {Ha Ha Ha } ! Your the best been watching you for many years
I don't mind the one time fee, but why do Prime4+ users get it for free?
Stems was promised to them (kind of) upon purchase
I'm glad to hear that, but the 4.1 update has made my Live 4 unusable. It freezes regularly, and when that happens, nothing works except the display. The support keeps delaying a solution, and the 4.2 update hasn't improved anything. This is slowly becoming detrimental to my business.
Sad to hear that - hope it gets fixed soon!
Try downloading 4.0 onto a USB stick and downgrade the firmware, then upgrade it again.
My live 4 played up with a recent firmware update but a reinstall fixed the issue. Although hopefully the release in December will have a fix if you can wait that long.
@digitalbob According to Denon Support, a downgrade to version 4.0 or below is unfortunately no longer possible.
@@dirk6852 oh that's annoying. Hopefully the soon to be released version clears up your issues.
It's s shame we can't play stems tracks via wifi pc engine os desktop. Having to export onto usb takes forever.
Can't even export a new track, 1 at a time to an existing playlist on usb, so exporting entire playlists with stem seperation files is gonna take even longer.
it is a v1.0
@digitaldjtips Here's to hoping for those update rollouts
has anyone used Prime4 + with record box ?
No, you cannot.
Working on Prime 2???
Will do, yeah
Bravo 🎉🎉🎉 10€?
If you want realtime u can use serato
Yes indeed!
I seem to recall us talking about this taking a couple years before this appeared on hardware. (prep process to get the stems ready on the loaptop ahead of time aside). Stems in action in place of my normally painfully-sourced acapellas on the show last week on the Prime 4 Plus. th-cam.com/video/TvYG9zsL-Wk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=Aud4vdJfofFdUHer&t=4241
As long as it is one time payment I can accept it. I don’t like subscription for every little things.
It will be $9.99 apparently
I rather wait till stand alone great quality stems. When they get great quality standalone stems it’s over for Pioneer and Alpha theta!
👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Good step in the right direction, but it be better if Streaming Services could be analyzed ( in general like rekordbox ) and with Steam separation .
Hope there will choose a small one time payment instead of subscription. Else it gonna be problematic 😑
The fee will be 10$ (Source Mojaxx)
And fortunately it's a one-time fee, it's not a subscription. Not too expensive imo.
Anyone else thinking Alpha Theta might need to up their game. I got rid on my Prime 4 for an RX3, due to having an RX2 as well, might have regrets that now.
Competition is always good, that's for certain!
It's $9.99 US
Here comes the future monthly subscriptions.
doubt that
So it will only be used for computer use not the actual decks (prime go)
@djstuc awesome I'm excited (baby steps)
Not sure you understood but your just using the computer to "analyze" the music but once analyzed you put in on a flash drive or memory card and load it onto your actual hardware. You don't play it from your computer. Well at least that's what I understood and will do so with my original Prime 4. 😊👍
Sweeet!!
It costs $10. Which is a fair price to pay as long as it works. Hopefully not paying a fee for new and upcoming features though otherwise it could start to get out of control. In today economic state world wide. People cant afford a lot.
I guess they see this as a big upgrade
happy to 10 euros (like 2 beers in holland these days) and not subscription :P
Yes, this has gone down well with people!
Sounds is what makes it useable or total rubbish... so the way they went is perfect.
We agree
This caught my interest but I've become accustomed to real time stems and it has saved me a few times at events.
Fair enough, this won't be for you then
@digitaldjtips I'm still excited that progress is being made tho. Maybe one day it will be for me. Anything that weakens Pion- I mean Alpha Theta's hold on the market is a win for me
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
👍👍👍👍👍😮😮😮😮
Shame it didn't included the Prime 4!!!!
IT will as stated in the article/video
Wowzers, thats a big deal for denon
It is!
VEEY GOOD.....GIVE IT TIME,but by paying for the upadte tells me that controllor sale are down (in my oppinon). The rx3 SWEET CONTROLLOR but wheres is at,it still dose do streaming...oh wait it dose,BUT DOSE IT!!!!!!Hmmnmnn....
Probably cost quite a bit to develop, too
So, if you buy a 2 Denon SC6000 Ms and a Denon 1850, you have to pay for this, but if you have the Prime Four plus it is free? Really?
Stop crying for a one-time payment of $10 for up to 4 devices. It's not a monthly subscription.
I own 2x sc6000m’s a 1850 mixer, prime 4 and a prime go. Looks like I’ll have to stump up £10
@@DJ_BeatBlasterz I'm not crying, I'm a Pioneer DJ- I don't intend to use it. It's just odd from a business perspective, using the older customers (who actually spent more) to subsidize the new customers. Not sure that is a solid business practice but you can run your business anyway you want.
@@DJDOG-zakkgamer6423 I guess you should have just bought the Prime Four Plus, ha ha. Then you could have had extra features and stems for free.
@@kennethmalafy8012
Well I guess that 2 sc6000M + an x1850 +10$ for the stems license is still cheaper than 2 CDJ3000 + 1 DJM A9 which doesn't have stems.... And that when you spend so much money on such a setup, we are no longer at 10$ more
