There are some modelers that are worth watching...their details, their tips, their techniques and of course their end product. Your channel is definitely one of them. Always a pleasure watching your channel.
perfect narration, minimal yet good music, great film work, and a first-class builder. i now need a beaufighter from airfix just to remind myself on how i differ from a model master.
This is legendary! I have been in love with WWII models since young, but have just started being careful, serious about painting a month ago. I am trying to learn how to paint models and your video is very helpful. Thank you! I do wish I could become so good like you someday.
I honestly didn't notice that the video was long. A wonderful build, especially for 1/72. The Beaufighter was a favourite of mine when I was young, and I think the paint here really suits the Mossie's blue-collar cousin.
Beautiful model, not only the scale 'is not easy but the contrasts are superbly well rendered and this on such a neutral shade. I devoured your video as usual. Congratulations James and thank you for helping me advance in our hobby.
When using liquid mask, I find it easier to use a very sharp pointed bamboo barbeque stick & held more like a pen, and put a blob of the liquid into the centre of the panel, and use the tip to run it into the edged. The tip will latch into the edge ( when there is good relief on the clear part ) & guide the liquid to the edges. When it comes to removing the mask it is best to get a fresh scalple blade, and very carefully go around the edges. This will stop the mask pulling the paint off.
Thanks James. As a new subscriber to your channel and a relative beginner you ticked all my boxes. My only goal now is to rush out and buy this kit because you made an excellent job of not only the assembly but the painting and weathering. Thank you. 👍 Mike

We used to use liquid poly glue............maybe today a haxmat......... An excellent 1/72 kit,,,,,,,,,,,, Enyoyed the video,,,,,,,,,well done........ apologies typos......84 old, but stilll going strong.. Howard.......uk............vet
I like to use thin strips of masking tape (one to two mm) on the windscreen framework first! It defines the frame and will give a crisp edge after painting. Then, fill in the voids with the masking fluid. Everything peels away when painting is complete! Much better result and easier to touch up!
A good video and I learned a few new techniques even though I've been model making for over 50 years. I agree with one of the other comments that the background music was a little too intrusive. I think that the weathering was done very well however I can't help thinking that on an active aircraft there would be fairly heavy soot staining around the gun ports, to the same degree as the exhaust staining if not heavier. I remember seeing Hawker Hunters at RAF Brawdy in the 70's with fairly heavy soot staining around their gun ports.
Thanks Mike, there was a small amount of grime on the cannons but you're right, compared to the rest of the build ( and sources) it could have been a bit more grotty !
You're back! Just wanted to say not only is it another stunner, I'm so glad you're one of the few "pro" modelers out there who isn't caught up with rivet counting and sometimes just goes with an artistic touch of what looks cool. Merry Christmas!
Been a modeller for fifty years and I still love the hobby. It's a wonderful thing to come across a technique that I've never seen (the stippling of the overall wash) - and I'm going to shamelessly steal this idea for my next aircraft build. First video of yours that I've seen and really like the presentation, editing and very subtle musical soundtrack. Lighting and focus are also good, only 'note' I would respectfully suggest would be a little more intonation / lightness in the voice-over. Going to browse your back-catalogue now for more tips and inspiration. All the best from NZ.
Thanks Ian much appreciated, I dont mind a bit of constructive feedback it helps us to improve !. What do you mean about the lightness in the voice? More expression? The wash dabbing was from an inspired moment watching someone doing a sort of dry brushing with a sponge, it was a bit random but I liked how it added another subtle layer to the finish. Many many thanks James
@@lpjmodels Hey James, yeah, I appreciate you may be reading from a script or cue-cards and that's all fine and perfectly understandable... maybe try a more 'conversational' tone, or a more 'matey' style - like we were at Telford or any model show and chatting at one of the display tables. I'm sure you get the idea. All the best.
Well, James....you did a super job resulting in a stunning model. I really enjoyed watching your work and listening to your words.....both very informative, full of tips and techniques which is why I keep coming back to your channel. Will look forward to seeing the next notification from you.
Thanks Robbo, I'm glad your sticking around, with this one especially I have tried to cram in more nuggets of info instead of the usual I did this, this and this . Next vid should be a shorter wait than the last
Lovely build, very interesting paint techniques. I'm putting one of these in a group build next year, I'll be happy if it's anywhere near as good as this!
Great done! I've been learn here so much! ;) An yes - never use only masking fluid on canopies - first, use masking tape on edges, next masking fluid in the center. But final result of Your kit is perfect. All the best for You! ;)
Nice build, James, I'm very impressed with your patience and devotion to accuracy and authenticity. I, too, have tried masking fluid around canopy frames and found it frustrating.
Amazing. I've just bought this kit, the TF.X variant, but being a more beginner, I won't be able to get this standard, but will be interesting to have one in dark sea gray and with deep panel lines should be a good model.
Absolutely fabulous work! It looks beautiful and convincing 👍👍👍 The only that was really annoying is masking canopy with masking fluid, it just don't works for me either...
@@TheNordus thanks ! I usually use tape this was a bit of a timesaving experiment. I have used it to infill before with good results, like you said, the edges must be tape !
Fantastic job! I know how you feel when you pull the masking off the canopy and disaster. I just finished my airfix 1/48 hurricane mk.i . I pulled my making tape off and voila i forgot to paint the fuselage section where the aft main canopy rests. Ok, so remove the canopy and paint it right? It split right in half. Ugh. So I glued it back on and used tamiya smoke to hide the crack. It worked . Sort of. But that feeling when the rest of the build was perfect but you mess up the canopy ..
Thank you so much James for showing this brilliant and inspirational build 😎👌 Fred ps I might even try and make some of the model kit stash I’m acquiring 😉
Hell... I'm late to the party once again! I'm right in the middle of editing a video myself but thought I'd take a break to watch this. Excellent work overall James and nice save on the canopy! I have to say when I saw you put the masking fluid down for the framing I cringed a little knowing more than likely what the outcome would be. All the best, cheers!
Thanks John ! Back to armour for the next few im afraid. I have the ZM 1/48 ho229 though that would make a cool vid. But that kit is begging for burnout with the sheer amount of parts.
I like how you showed the difference between the aftermarket and original. Nice touch. But clean your airbrush and thin paints: your overspray is so grainy.
Thanks Muphlon. The sky could have been thinned a bit more for sure, changing often between the different manufacturers in my paint stash can catch you unawares sometimes

Simply brilliant modelling. The cowlings, WOW! The weathering, excellent. Thanks for giving us a window into the world of true artistry.

Every single time I watch your vids James I am blown away... superb
Great demonstration that if something does go wrong. Sit back. Look at it then clear it up. It's not the end off it
Thanks Peter ! Sometimes I can fix things but I'm not a great builder, more of a painter
Lovely job James!
Unpacking the box... the childhood vibes return...
You did good. Thanks for the great tutorial James!
You're welcome Simon !
Good save with the canopy!!! Great build, great model!!! Thanks for sharing!!!

Thanks for the Tip Andy ! I think though I'll stick to using it for camo when I need to. Tape isn't that much more effort.
Beautiful build there my friend the painting and weathering looks amazing well done and stay safe 👍👍
Thanks Rims Models, much appreciated. And you stay safe too !
Another Fabulous Video By James!! Lots of great techniques shown and a few ones I've never seen before. Thanks James! 🤓
Many thanks Eric, I appreciate your continued support, it means a lot !
She's a beauty mate, nice work! Love the paint finish, but then, I'm a sucker for anything in that fleet air arm extra dark sea grey/sky scheme!
Thanks Simon ! Its a tasty scheme with loads of options for weathering

Amazing build and a great video, thankyou for sharing.
Thankyou Stuart
after watching so many liquid masking fails as well as experienced it, i vow to never touch it again... Great paint job!
Thanks KKG ! Its very useful for infilling tape and hard edge camo e.t.c but I wouldnt use it again for a canopy.
Just found this channel and really enjoyed it

Great video, great build!

Lovely build, enjoyed watching that.
Sorry to say, the masking fluid worked exactly the way I thought it would. It always pulls up the paint around it.

I tend to use the liquid mask with masking tape around the frame edges and the liquid mask in the centre otherwise purely masking with tape is best.
