    WOW- AGAIN: Second one watched and amazed at the level of detail, and the number of paints, brushes, glues lacquers, etc needed You have an amazing skill set, very arty. I feel inspired to look up how much it will cost to try to reproduce something similar. If nothing else that will pass a bit of time during this quarantine period, then look for more model making videos. So thanks for keeping me entertained.

    What an excellent model and an absolute fantastic idea for MFH. Also picked up some great tips and even bought an airwick oil burner the same as yours although water can get quite hot i had to keep turning it off for a while and turning back on but a great idea and i also bought one of those plastic circle things for the wheels. Thanks so much for sharing.

    I bought a small electric drill online and is great for drilling out a lot of things like underwing stores points, or where a mesh grill should be, but a Archimedes spiral drill for the one or two places. The small electric drill actually cost less than Archimedes drill. The only drawback with the electric drill is that the speed is hard to control, the on-off switch is the only means of control and sometimes it’s difficult to get right, but I am going to get an in-line rotary speed switch for a couple of quid 💷 and that should work perfectly.

    • @SteamGeezerUK
      @SteamGeezerUK  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've seen those little Tamiya modelling drills and they're supposed to be quite good. I have a rotary tool that has adjustable speed but it's a bit big for really delicate work. I think there are smaller rotary tools that are available.

    Very nice m8. I've put engines into four WWI aircraft above my railway layout for a Casualty Clearing Station. I used white tack to hold the engines in place and superglue for the wires. I had to modify the Camels quite a bit to get them to fit. I power them with a mains transformer.

    For your next project of a similar line, you may want to look at making use of small SMT(surface mount technology) LEDs for the running/landing lights. Could also mount them in place for the port and starboard lights. I love this project though. Makes me want to get back into the model building thing again. Just a pity it's become prohibitively expensive here in South Africa due to the crappy exchange rates.

    That is a thing of beauty. One small thing: the yellow gas indicator square decal, should be well inboard, near the fuselage. Hurricanes do look good in decals other than RAF - one of the nicest is the Irish Air Force ones that Airfix included with their first new tooling 1/72 Hurricane.

    • @SteamGeezerUK
      @SteamGeezerUK  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Interesting to know, cheers - I put it on where the box said to put it. I very nearly left it off because, in my opinion, it looks bloody awful :-)

    • @brianartillery
      @brianartillery 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't like them either. It was made to detect Mustard gas. Apparently, in the early war period, the paint was applied to the tops of pillarboxes. The only model I've ever applied the 'gas patch' to, was a DH Tiger Moth. It sits on the rear fuselage, behind the pilot. I think that, if you were in an open trainer, you'd have a damn good idea that you'd flown through a cloud of Mustard gas, without a reactive cloth patch to tell you.

    Hey mate. Carl here, an old scouse bastard living in Canada. Great video, I'm just researching lighting models, it can have an awesome visual effect and you did a damned fine job on yours. As for your stencil though. If you don't mind a little advice from someone who always tries to replace decals with actual paint. I always put the cut out part of the stencil, (in your case the square), on the model first. I find it much easier to see if I have the correct placement. Once I've done that I would place my masking piece in place over, (the square), and then remove that piece of stencil ready for paint. I hope you, or anybody else reading this, understands my explanation. You are obviously a very experienced modeller and so therefore probably very aware of my method. If so please accept my apologies, I just thought I'd mention it regardless. Keep up the good work.

    nice build..
    one thing...ok..2..!
    what's the airbrush??
    do you find 15psi is ideal at 50% mix for all paints...?
    I use Vallejo.so would that psi and mix work ok?

    • @SteamGeezerUK
      @SteamGeezerUK  5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The airbrush I use the most is a Harder & Steenbeck Evolution with a 0.2mm nozzle. I use 15psi for almost everything because I can't be bothered to reach over and adjust the regulator on my compressor :-)
      As for the 50% mix, I find that's a good baseline for all paints, even supposedly pre-thinned paints like Vallejo Model Air. I sometimes thin much more, for example I use 20% paint or even thinner when shading. If the paint is thinner, you might want to lower the PSI - if I do a mix of 5% paint, it's like water so I might drop to maybe 5psi.
      It's a tricky business and it pays to experiment with your setup to get the best results, but 50/50 is a good place to start.

    Slightly off topic, but, could I get some advice from you, or any one of your followers on a current kit I am building? I recently bought a 1/72 scale kit from Airfix, this is not my first Airfix kit, and generally I find them great kits. But this one is God awful. It is a Martin B-26 B Marauder (#A04015A)
    I do not know how long this kit has been lying around, I bought it at a local hobby shop. There is not a single part on any of the sprues that does not have some degree of flash on them, from annoying to terrible. The kit is made from very soft plastic, there are fit issues with the wings, the engines and raised panel lines, all of which can be dealt with given time. The one thing that has me grinding my teeth over is the top turret position. The scale thickness of the plexi-glass would make it about 6 inches thick in real life, and the crew figure basically looks like he is holding a bar bell set up to his chin with 2 machinegun barrels protruding from that.
    Options: 1) eliminate the figure and add some “bits” for the appearance of a turret with guns. 2) keep the figure and add some bits to give the appearance of a gun position……….but this is 1/72 scale, so any work is going to be SMALL.
    Suggestions, ideas, advice……………..

      @@SteamGeezerUK ah, yes just looked into them a bit more, always thought the air frame was canvas coated but i suppose that wouldn't be much good around the engine

    Love your videos but maybe love the fact you sound like Sean Pertwee more.

    Great job. I would suggest that you take a cigarette lighter flame, very slightly, to the ends of your fiber optic bits in the wings. It would kind of look like a lens and would spread the light out perhaps. And, did British manufacturers and maintainers paint their aircraft landing gear struts and supports green? As a former US Air Force pilot I have never seen that on our aircraft. Perhaps I am being anal.
