    Story 1: OP does need to grow a backbone a bit. But Reddit can help. Just send the link to your AITA to the extended family. If they side with your parents, then tell them that they can be the ones pushed out of their own homes while paying him to do so.
    Also, guests are like fish, 3 days before they start to stink. This goes for family too

    Story 2: OP is not an AH. They have their family cultures and traditions that they were preserving. The sister decide for he partner that she wasn't going to follow those traditions, which if she really wanted to do that, that was also fine. The sister regretting that choice makes me think her husband made her think her traditions were dumb and archaic, and when she missed out on family bonding traditions she saw what she gave up to be with him and missed it. Really the AH in this story seems to be the sister's husband, the fact he never even attempted to understand the traditions shows his entitlement of what he think is right culturally.
    And all of this coming from a westerner.

      Yeah, I’m not religious and honestly with the horror stories I hear (some I’ve heard from people I’ve known personally) I have no interest in getting involved. That being said one of my aunts is and so during family gatherings when she does a prayer I just do the gesture to keep peace as it doesn’t really matter at the end of the day.

  • @irisrelvas5415

    S2: Everybody is the AH. The family shouldn't have outcasted and emotionally blackmailed the sister just because she wasn't following traditional customs and they should have accepted her marriage however she wanted to go about it. The husband shouldn't have been downright disrespectful of their culture, especially when in their home, when you're in someone else's house you respect their rules and their customs. So yeah, the sister just wanted to have a happy marriage and instead she got caught in a way of "My culture is superior to yours". I honestly only feel bad for her.

      They didn’t out cast her ! She picked a man that was DISRESPECTFUL to her culture and her parents and she wonders why people are acting different? She can’t pick a disrespectful colonizer and then act shocked that people don’t like him. Choices have consequences.

    Story2: BOTH are AH. The BIL for his blatant disrespect of his wife's culture (he didn't have to pay the dowry if he didn't want to, but him outright rudely saying what he thought about it was wrong) and the family in the first half about the dowry from everyone regardless of if they believe in it or not. BIL all the way yes, but that dowry thing is gonna get more people in trouble than just outsiders, not believing in it and wanting to pay.

    S2: OK I can look past everything even the "killing an innocent cow for a fertilized egg" part but sorry I will neverlook past having to pay dowry no matter what culture it is cause it always leads to horrible thing so it makes your culture inherently evil in that part but the husband was also very f*cking rude for all his comments and not even respecting your elders and not having the decency to respect his in-laws and also for not including any of OP's wedding traditions(But if the sister was not forced into a european style wedding then its her right to want a wedding in her way and no one can say sh*t about that) but I also feel like people are punishing the sister I understand not wanting to cut another innocent cow cause it was nto provided by the husbands family(purely evil still to expect dowry) but the fact that the mother decided spend less time with her compared to OP and I can underastand not wanting the sis's husband at gatherings but they should've atleast invited the sister and the sister alone.
    Also Its is inherently evil to expect dowry from anyside in any marraige so no cultural relativity no matter what your culture says its evil and always gauranteed to lead to some unfortunate events for some people there but also Killing an innocent food providing animal OR a fully developed, organised, functioning, complex clump of cells for a fertilized egg or a unformed clump of cells is also truly evil

    • @Black-Rose12
      @Black-Rose12 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@HeoBaby24 In some cultures it is rude to refer to your elders(who you are related to via family) by their first name I agree he doesn’t need to call everyone mr or whatever but he can at least call his wife’s parents, uncles and aunts by some way that does not include their name cause it’s basic form of respect and if he decided to marry her he has to respect her beliefs and customs too and it’s not like they are expecting him to change himself completely and I also disagree with a lot of customs OP mentioned about their culture and how would the husband feel if his wife(OP’s sister) just disregarded Christmas and constantly shamed everything the husband believes in .
      Husband needs ro understand that European customs are nit followed everywhere and needs to learn something about his wife’s culture if he truly loves her and if he can’t even do that he can just marry someone european

      especially to pay money just to marry her? ignoring her when she had her baby
