      You guys joining at an older age are going to do well if you can get past the fact that much younger guys are going to be in charge of you until you earn some rank. Most of the older guys I knew that came in later in life you will make rank pretty quick because you're going to take it more seriously and have maturity keeping you out of trouble. Good luck to all of you.

    Joined at 18, currently on active duty, age 25, rank SSG....I have 7 years in and have no regrets. Matter of fact I thank the Army for the life it gave me...I owe the Army for making me the man i am today. I had no guidance or ambition coming out of high school. I had no idea what I wanted to do. I was a young father and had to find a way to take care of my child and wife. The Army literally saved my life when I was on the streets
    That's why I continue to serve not because I dont want to get out but I feel like I owe the Army back for taking care of me when I had nothing.
    It isnt perfect, it isnt the greatest paying job but it's the greatest job ever in my eyes.
    I will be retiring at 38! 👍👍👍👍

    Joining at 27. I regret not joining at 18 like I wanted. But I exhausted traditional routes, (college , internships, professional jobs) and I wasn’t happy in any of those. So hopefully I find some kind of fulfillment within the military. I’m joining for so many other reasons but ultimately I am in search of a fulfilling life. To me, retiring at a slightly older age isn’t a fate worst than death. Working in a job I hate is. And I have been stuck in jobs I hate for the last 4 years.

      @@mariahcarey50 so far it’s been good for me. I adapted well and have had some really good opportunities. "Joining the military and enduring a full career means giving up a life of stability for a life of adventure." Notice I did not say structure, but stability for reason. For those that go on afterwards into retirement, you can "recoup" the time lost and live life to the fullest, even with injuries. Not many professions allow retirement as early as 38 years old!

    I joined the Army Guard at 21, I went active Army at 24, l left active duty at 27 and joined the Air Guard, I retired from the Air Force Reserve in in 2014. My military benefits paid for my bachelors degree, when I went to the Air Guard I received new education benefits which paid for my oldest sons bachelors of Aerospace Space Engineering degree and now I have health benefits and I am receiving retirement pay check for life. So for me at 60 years of age the military was one of the best decisions that I had made in my life.

  • @Tehsoultaker
    @Tehsoultaker 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Matt, I just wanna say I am not in the Military I do really hate it especially when I get to see it's commercials when it's all because I am not academically smart for the asvab. I know I can keep trying but, for my alternate I signed up to be a Firefighter, I may be struggling on the basic test. But they know I am not academically smart, and they do appreciate that I do go in to training and help the best I can while I can follow any order in the book. I am a proud Fire fighter, but I want to thank you an every member of the military for your service as I do wish it was my career, but I am happy where I am as a First generation Fire fighter!

    I joined the Marines at 17, turned 18 in Boot Camp. Pros- in 1979 I had no other options, the only job I would have been able to get was working in a cotton mill. School wasn't and option since we were dirt poor and I didn't really dedicate myself in high school. Cons- My first 4 years 17-21 years old I wasn't mature enough to take what I was doing very seriously. I was good at my job but I was wild and didn't have a lot of respect for authority at the time. Results- In my 2nd and 3rd enlistment I took military life more seriously and shaped up. I never really earned much rank but I did 12 years active duty and after a 10 year break in service did 8 years in the N.Guard and earned my retirement which will help me when I retire from my civilian profession later this year. I firmly believe that joining the military at 17 was the best thing for me, for other people it may not be but no matter what it's not a waste of your time.

    If you do 4 years in the Military Active Duty then go to a Senior Military College or Military Academy. You will be more appreciated by your younger peers, upperclassmen, and faculty. By your peers you will be their lifeline for 21+ products and more likely to have a car to drive them to and from, you also will be the go to person for leadership within a small group because of your age and experience. Upperclassmen will respect you more likely than a typical Freshman and incorporate them into their social groups. Faculty will assume maturity is already established with you so can be trusted.

    Bottom line: Joining means surrendering your freedom. That is really the crux of the decision. Also, there is absolutely no guarantee that you will be able to stay in for 20 or 30 years either. I respect/appreciate our service members and their sacrifice/stress. I have served myself. Keep posting these videos!

    Im currently 18 years old and I opted to come to college to work towards my degree in Civil/Construction Engineering. Originally I wanted to join the navy as a CT rate but college was the best option for me considering the rigor of the degree I’m working towards. Luckily, I’ve chosen a state university and I’ll graduate with relatively low student debt so I can apply for the CECP if I still want to join the Navy or move into a civilian career. Nonetheless, going to the military first does have benefits but people should also look into military college programs because going in as an officer is always beneficial.

I really want to start preparing a year in advance, I’m super skinny and no matter how much I eat I don’t gain weight, I also have terrible cardiovascular endurance and strength, what are some workouts/techniques to increase my upper body strength and cardiovascular endurance? It just feels so hard to even run down my block (I’ll start wheezing and coughing really hard in the middling of running down the block). Any advice would really help!

  • @ElSings

    What about if we go into war though? What should people think about in that arena? I really want to join the Navy after high school, but my mom posed next the point that I have to be willing to shoot at people and die for my country if I join the military. (Cuz that’s the main point, right?) but what if I get a job that’s just ship life and on land, like a BMH or something like that? Is it still possible they could move me to the front lines during a war? Even if that’s not what my job was? I do think dying for my country is honorable, but I would prefer to leave the shooting and the field warfare up to people who like the idea more. Should I join? Or is this not a good idea for me? Because I really want to, and this is the only question/thought keeping me from saying yes just yet.
    P.S. I know this situation is very unlikely, but it’s possible. I just want to know a truthful answer. I totally want to join. I’m up for it. I will die for my country. I’ll shoot at drones, missiles, whatever. I’m just not sure I could stand shooting at a possibly innocent mother and child or something crazy like that. Would I have to do that? Can someone help me with this? Is this something I should be thinking about or should I not worry about it?
