There was a gel under the battery against the contacts, I assume petroleum jelly. Should I add some on the new battery?

you don't have to but it certainly won't hurt to put a little bit on there to help keep corrosion off of it.

I changed my battery and my key fob still doesnt work. It just randomly stopped working after locking the car.
