Hi Alok, have to prove in your interview that you can handle the cloud. Its better if you can somehow get hands on with cloud in your current company. When it comes to CTC, if you are applying for the right company there is no limit :). For example companies like AWS pay awesome packages.

Any cloud technology nearly same.. Aws gcp, ms azure are popular.. there is no cloud for "beginner". If you really make your mind as a only devops engineer you can start and must learn linux, git, docker or similar container tools, kubernetes, automation tools like jenkins, ansible puppet, monitoring tools like Prometheus, grafana visualizer.. should be comfortable to write shell script/bash script in linux . also can use python for that.. road is long but need to keep in touch.. and finally let me giv advice from my 10 yrs of exp in server side java dev.. devops is just a bridge betwn IT and software dev. every company needs only 1 to 2 devops unless the company is only cloud based company.. so you might need to face challenges. one of my collegue was the only devops in my company. he was mtech in electrical engg. he doesn't find job in his field and switch to devops. He was good but not better. When I join the company i showed my skills as backend dev also devops and after i joined the company, the company just fired him because I was that "better" the company looking for You come from mechanical eng. better stick with it.. or mix devops with other tech stack.. devops with frontend or backend or devops with networking netdevops /devsecops etc DO NOT ONLY STICK WITH DEVOPS YOU MAY FACE DIFFICULTY TO FIND RELATED JOB

DevOps is like an intermedier between Developer and Operation So the developer will develop the whole code, No worries. So why you need some language knowledge is just to understand the code in case there is any bug so that you can look at it (Not mandatory)...However, scripting knowledge is required to make a small automation script to automate the process (Preferred Python)......(I am also AWS and DevOps learner) Best luck.

Forget Java for DevOps. I started in Java, moved to CloudOps, and quickly realized it's mostly scripting in Python/Shell/PowerShell. Not to say learning Java is bad, because if you can write good Java then good Python is easy to pick up! But I wouldn't worry about the specific Java tech stacks.

Hi RK, I would suggest to do cloud and devops together. I guess incident management is also part of cloud security so yes you can switch your career and honestly doesn't matter from which background you come from as long as you can crack interview.

Any cloud ops roles or SRE roles in general have less coding but I would strongly recommend to get your hands dirty in Python atleast.

Hi RK, I would suggest to do cloud and devops together. I guess incident management is also part of cloud security so yes you can switch your career and honestly doesn't matter from which background you come from as long as you can crack interview.

Like the guy himself here...are they actually bluffing about previous relevant experience or being honest about that they don't hold any experience and just simply switching....isn't that being on a freshers stage again in terms of CTCs of market standards? Why no body asking this question here!
